“Anna took great care of my dog, Oso. She sent constant updates and pictures, took him for several long walks and took great care of our home. I highly recommend Anna to take care of your pets!”

“Beth is so great with my 2 dogs. She sends pictures and tells me how their day is going. She also communicates any problems that arise. Beth is very easy to work with and follows all the instructions for the care of the house and pets. I really appreciate the way she takes care of everything!”

About: Most of my experience was from growing up with my cockapoo Casey. He made me realize how much I enjoyed the company of dogs, and it made me more than happy to help family and friends with looking after their own pets when they would be away. I always want to make sure they're kept loved and appreciated and would do my best to make it feel like their routine is the same as it always is. Since I currently have a part-time job from home, I have the flexibility to take care of pets during the day for any food or potty breaks, as well as availability during the afternoon and evening to give dogs the love and attention they need. I live in a home without a fence, however we live in a neighborhood that makes for easy walking. There is also space indoors for dogs to run around and play with toys, which my previous cockapoo would do all the time.
“Isabelle was great! She sent amazing pictures & my pets were so happy when I got home. As a fellow Rover sitter, I struggle to find sitters who go the extra mile the way I do - but I have a friend in her :)”

“Highly recommend Kortney! Leaving my pup for a week is never easy, but she made the entire experience stress-free! She treated my dog like her own and provided regular updates and photos, which gave me so much peace of mind while I was away. When I got home, I could tell she had been happy, loved, and exceptionally well cared for. I’m so grateful for the wonderful care Kortney provided and will absolutely book with her again. ❤️🐾”

“Maya did an outstanding job for us. She accepted a last minute request, which included a 6-day stay at our home while we were out of town on vacation. She connected very well with our 72 pound medium Bernedoodle, giving him lots of attention and care. Everything went smoothly and she remained focused and supportive to the end, even when our return flight was delayed by 3 hours. Thanks again Maya.”

“Very sweet girl with a kind heart for pitties, took good care of my senior girls as well as following instructions to be able to give my girls the care they need, especially when I wasn't home. Would definitely re-book with her”

“Alex worked with our one dog who was nervous around him at first. He spent a lot of time at our house with our two dogs while we were on vacation. When we came back our dogs were tired and happy.”

“Karina was absolutely amazing. She gave us regular updates and spoiled our dogs more than we do. She took care of all of their medical issues. We will definitely ask Karina to watch our dogs again.”

“Sarah took care of our cat for four days at our house while we were away. He has to be given medication at certain times during the day and also loves human attention. Sarah was caring and responsible, spent time hanging out with him, and made sure he got his meals and medicine at the right times. She also checked in with us, asked good questions, and responded quickly when we checked in with her. We hope to hire Sarah again, and highly recommend her for petsitting and housesitting.”

“Gabi’s services were 100% awesome. We have a quirky dog and she came over once a week for a few months before we left to get our dog comfortable with her. She kept us informed and went above and beyond to make us feel secure when leaving our home and pets in her care. She also kept our house as clean as we left it! Very diligent and respectful.”

“Jillian was amazing! She was so attentive and loving with our pups. They absolutely loved her. We even had some last minute changes to our plans and Jillian was more than happy to accommodate. She gave us such peace of mind knowing our pups were in great hands! We will definitely be booking her again in the future.”

“Kevin was wonderful. We could not have been more confident in his ability to care for our pup during our trip. He asked all the right questions and truly paid attention to detail. During the stay, he sent plenty of updates and pictures which made us so happy to see! He was prompt, professional, and friendly! Our normally nervous pup warmed up to him almost immediately which just shows how lovely he is. Ollie loved him! He drew us a custom picture of Ollie and it truly is the coolest thing ever. We’ll be hanging it up! If you’re looking for a sitter who is attentive and will love on your animals the way you would, Kevin is your guy! Thank you Kevin for taking great care of Ollie!”

About: I've taken care of my hyper active dog that likes to jump off walls for 10 years. I took care of a couple coworkers' pets (3 dogs) for weeks on end while they were on vacation. I've taken long walks with dogs no matter the weather, as long as the doggy is well prepared for the weather (ie winter coats and summer shoes). My previous dog loved sticking his head out of the car when I drive so I can drive around with your doggy if thats what they want. Taking them on nature walks will always be my favorite thing, so dogs can experience something new. I do work full time in lake forest but I thankfully have a flexible schedule, especially for lunch. I am able to take 1.5 hours for lunch so I can always swing by the house for a check in. I'm always free on weekends to give the animals the most love and care I will keep up to date on any issues that arises and be vigilant in making sure the animals don't mess up the garden or make a mess in the house. I can help clean the floors of all the dog hair
“He did an amazing job! Left the home in great condition and took really good care of our pets while we were out of the country for 12 days. Good communication. Will book again.”

“We booked Michael at the last minute for 5 days. He came over for a meet and greet and Billie seemed to like him right away. Michael sent daily updates with pictures. Billie seemed to be great! Michael also agreed to feed our frog (he eats live crickets). We were very happy with our first Rover experience!”

Highly recommend Kortney! Leaving my pup for a week is never easy, but she made the entire experience stress-free! She treated my dog like her own and provided regular updates and photos, which gave me so much peace of mind while I was away. Grace was such a fantastic sitter for our 3 dogs! She was very caring and helpful when one had some tummy issues! She was great at communication and providing us updates and pictures. We appreciated her willingness to go above and beyond when our fence blew down. She had to take the dogs out on leashes each time they went out and had to make sure they didn’t get out of the yard. She was super professional and the dogs seemed super happy. We would definitely have her back to dog sit again anytime.

Jo stayed with our nervous, reactive dog Luna for a full week. Jo came over to house multiple times prior to the trip so Luna could get comfortable with her. Jo has a great calm nature about her. We felt very comfortable with her staying out our house and knew Luna was in good hands. Jo gave us daily updates (with pictures). We highly recommend Jo to watch your loved one(s).

Leah is truly invested on taking good care of the furry friends she meets. She took note and asked questions about his behavior, quirks, likes, dislikes, etc. Also approach him in a friendly manner. We were amazed how fast Leo took to her and she gained his trust. The frequent reports and photos showed Leo was very comfortable and happy in his own house during our trip. Highly recommend Leah, she truly does her best to understand and care for the pets on her care.

FAQs for House Sitting - Mettawa
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Mettawa on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 7,585 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Mettawa. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Mettawa walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Mettawa maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Mettawa choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Mettawa. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
