We had an absolutely amazing experience with Faith! She was incredibly attentive to detail, kept our home spotless, and took such thoughtful care of our pup. You can tell she truly loves animals. She is patient, engaging, and our dog looked happy and relaxed in every update. Her communication was excellent, we received regular photos and updates, which gave us total peace of mind while we were away. She followed all instructions perfectly and made sure routines stayed consistent. If you're looking for a reliable, trustworthy, detail-oriented, playful, and communicative house sitter or pet sitter, I can’t recommend Faith enough. We will absolutely be booking with her again!

Isabelle was great with my 4 month puppy! She sent pictures of him and updated me which I really appreciate. She also did a great job with instructions that were given. Isabelle also arrived right on time which is always a plus and even stayed a little bit after her original end time due to me running late. I would definitely use Isabelle again and highly recommend!

Noemi was an absolute rockstar!!! Not only did she accept our last minute booking, she continued the house sit when our a/c went out the morning of our trip! She still agreed to stay overnight, even when I gave her the option not to, and made sure our pets were safe in the heat, not to mention letting in the a/c guy for repairs. She was communicative, and we came back to very happy pets! I highly recommend Noemi!

Ke'vin was very flexible with scheduling when we had to find someone quickly to leave town for a family emergency. With little notice, he came to our house for a first meeting and then started the next day for a overnight sitting service for five days. Our senior dog is always afraid of new people but Ke'vin sent videos of her and it's clear she warmed up quickly to him and really liked him. He gave her meds with no issue. I'm glad we found Ke'vin on Rover!

Jillian took such wonderful care of my chihuahua for 4 days at my house. He’s normally very nervous and tends to bark a lot around new people, but she immediately put him at ease. Soon after he never left her side, which says everything about how comfortable and safe he felt with her. It made it so much easier for me to leave him knowing he was being so well cared for and genuinely happy. Jillian was patient, caring, and clearly has a natural way with dogs. I will absolutely be using her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone trustworthy and compassionate to care for their pet. It was also so nice that she sent me regular updates with pictures which I really appreciated.

Becca was wonderful! She was able to watch Tazer on short notice over a holiday weekend. She sent updates and photos letting me know how he was doing. I have never had someone new watch him before and she said he adjusted well. It was such a relief knowing I could get away and he was in great hands. I will definitely be using her to sit again.

Phenomenal experience while he house sat and dog sat for us. My dog loves him and he was so communicative and easy to work with! We unfortunately had a gas leak issue during our trip and he was not only quick in identifying it, but worked with our maintenance crew and updated us every step of the way. Would hire again easily!

Trina is such a lifesaver. We had a dog sitter lined up who had to bail on us about 12 hrs before we were supposed to leave on our first ever Disney vacation. She responded to my message immediately, was available on short notice and honestly spoiled the heck out of my dog! My dog is a senior citizen and takes 2-4 meds a day. She made sure he got all his meds, followed an intricate feeding schedule, and loved him as her own. She checked in with me daily to assure us he was doing well. She also helped feed our fish and turtle. What a lifesaver! We returned to happy animals and a very clean house. We will definitely be using Trina for all our vacations from here on out!

About: Hello! My name is Samantha, and I’m your next pet caretaker! I’m living in Gurnee, but im willing to go anywhere within 10ish miles of me :) I have a dog at home with my mom and two cats at my apartment, so I’m more than experienced with the level of care and responsibility needed to take care of your furry friends. I was also a house manager for a family in Grayslake for three years in college, which included taking care of their dogs as a part of the family when I was home on break. I can provide safe, quality walks for your furry friends, as well as timely, care filled in-home or backyard playtime, feeding, minor grooming, or quality time. I have my furry friends on the perfect schedule, so I have plenty of time to take care of yours. I’m ready to be your best friend's new best friend :) I’m currently working part time, so I have plenty of time to take care of your dogs or cats. Both walks and drop in available! I currently do not provide care in my home, but I am eager to give your dog a fun and quality walk, or even in home visits for dogs or cats! I’ll make sure they’re having tons of fun while feeling all of the love while their human is away :)

Let me start by saying, we have never left Jeff with anyone but family. But because of unforeseen circumstances, Lindsey became his first caregiver, and I cannot speak highly enough about her and the experience we had with Rover. Jeff is a spunky, 14-year-old, spoiled, fussy, Yorkshire Terrier. Jeff was born in our home; we had both his mother and Father. He has never been alone (without us) since their passing. We planned a family vacation to Hawaii over a year ago and at the last minute our plans fell through with my Neice, and she could not watch him. We were ready to cancel. I had heard of ROVER and decided to look into their services. After going through a lot of candidates to choose from, I found Lindsey. She set up a meet and greet and we all met in our home. Lindsey and Jeff instantly became friends, and I started to feel a little better. We all even took a walk in the neighborhood with Jeff so I could see how he would react to her. Two days before we were set to leave, Lindsey reached out to see how we were doing and reassured us that Jeff would be in good hands. She communicated through the entire process and whole time we were away. She was prompt and so friendly and really knew how to make Jeff feel at ease. Throughout the vacation (11 days), she sent updates, pictures and let us know that he was behaving, eating, drinking, and successful on all his walks. She took pictures and sent them to us EVERY DAY. I can't tell you how relived we were that Jeff was in her care. We had a wonderful trip to Hawaii because we honestly felt Jeff was in the best hands and in his own home with all his familiar surroundings. We can now look forward to more family vacations with our Grandchildren knowing that Lindsey is here to take care of Jeff. Thank you so much, Lindsey... you helped put our mind at ease and took care of our little pup better than we could have imagined. If you are reading this review, and have anxiety about leaving your pup, I urge you to contact Lindsey so she can show you how truly amazing she is! Aloha!

Grace was such a fantastic sitter for our 3 dogs! She was very caring and helpful when one had some tummy issues! She was great at communication and providing us updates and pictures. We appreciated her willingness to go above and beyond when our fence blew down. She had to take the dogs out on leashes each time they went out and had to make sure they didn’t get out of the yard. She was super professional and the dogs seemed super happy. We would definitely have her back to dog sit again anytime.

FAQs for House Sitting - Rondout

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of September 2026, there are 7,184 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Rondout. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Rondout walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Rondout maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Rondout choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Rondout. On Rover:

  • 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 96% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
