“Jane went above and beyond to take care of our 2 dogs and the house which included trying to keep the plants watered and alive through the recent heat and of course this lingering drought. We went on a 2 week tour of Italy. We had never left our 8 year chihuahua mix since we had her for the past 6 years. She is a rescue and has some walking and rear leg problems so she was extra work as she is not able to walk far at a time. On top of that we have a 5 month old chihuahua puppy who being so young is sometimes a handful but also a lot of fun. Jane eased our mind sending great updates, great pics and even videos of the pups so it eased our minds not having to worry about them and it enhanced our trip greatly. If we need to be away in the future and cannot take the dogs with us we will definitely call Jane. I cannot say enough about how well she took care of the house and the dogs also. We were a little worried about how the dogs would take to a new person with us being gone and that we have never left them before. But Jane's experience showed through as the dogs became at ease with her very quickly and easily.”

“Bella was absolutely fantastic while watching my dog, Lola, at our house for four days. She sent daily updates and some wonderful pictures, which gave me total peace of mind and allowed me to fully relax on my trip. I came home to a very happy dog and a perfectly cared-for home. I highly recommend Bella to anyone looking for a top-notch, reliable pet sitter!”

“Desi was beyond amazing! She stayed at our home and was respectful and clean. Moose was happy the entire time and was spoiled rotten. Highly recommend her services. 1000/10! Thank you again Desi!”

“Abby is excellent! She took wonderful care of our 2 dogs, 2 cats and home durning an overnight stay. Our high energy, anxious and often particular doodle took to her immediately as did the rest of our menagerie. Abby communicated throughout her stay and sent many pictures and videos. We returned to a spotless home and very happy animals. Could not recommend Abby more and hope to have her house sit for us again in the future!”

About: Hi! I’ve been caring for dogs—from energetic puppies to sweet senior pups—for over 15 years. I treat every animal like my own, making sure they feel safe, loved, and cared for while you're away. I’m comfortable with dogs of all sizes and temperaments, and I understand how to adjust care based on their age and needs. I prioritize communication so you always know what’s going on, to make this as stress free as possible! I am a graduate student in school full-time, but my weekdays and weekends are very flexible. Please reach out to me with any special schedule requests! I am very clean and will leave your house spotless if caring overnight for your pet. I cater to the pets’ needs and will do everything I can to ensure a safe and fun environment!

About: My family has had cats and dogs my whole life. I have a cat of my own that I love dearly. I have stayed over night for animal care and have cared for several animals at a time. I have a ton of availability as I am not in school currently. I am willing to do drop ins and over night care. Would love to set up some weekly walks and drop ins! I am willing to do whatever is necessary to take care of your fur baby. I can take care of them in your house or also take them to parks if preferred.
“Rebecca was fantastic! She was very attentive to the needs of our boys and provided us with just the right amount of updates throughout our vacation, like daily photos. I felt very comfortable having her stay in our home so our boys had some familiarity while we were gone, and our house was neat and clean when we returned. We highly recommend Rebecca and will seek her out to watch our boys during our next getaway!”

About: I was an intern at Como Zoo for 5 years caring for all kinds of critters, all different shapes, colors, and sizes! That is where I grew my childhood love of pets to a love of all creatures :) I currently work in the late afternoon/ night so morning and mid day walks work best for me, but open to try and wiggle my schedule around! I believe animals respond best to positive attitudes and enrichment, they’re intelligent creatures that need to get out and explore just like us, with the safety and comfort of a good companion!
“Allen was great! I needed a last minute sitter and Allen was the perfect choice. Great communication and put up with my silly dogs with no complaints. Left my house in great condition. I look forward to having him stay with my beasties again. Thank you so much! 💜”
“Amelia stayed in our home and looked after our geriatric small dog recently. (This was our first experience with Rover). On a previous trip when she’d been boarded, our dog hadn’t eaten and had lost several lbs, so we needed help. Amelia was perfect! My dog was able to stay home with no change to her routine. I received pics, texts and had an stress-less trip thanks to Amelia!”

“Michele was the best. We have a 15+ year old Yorkie that requires a great deal of attention's & loving care. Michele provided all of that & more. She was very good a keeping us up to date with notes & photos. We highly recommend her & we will have her again when we need her. Michele is mature, very thoughtful & loves animals.”

“Katie was fantastic!!! She was great with our dog Brady and he just loved her! She took him on walks every day and kept us updated (with pictures) while we were on our vacation... She looked after things at the house and left it as if she'd never been here! We've been home for a day now and Brady keeps looking for her to come back... We would recommend Katie highly to anyone looking for a house or dog sitter, or both... We will definitely plan to use her again and I'm sure that Brady can't wait!! 5 stars and A+++”

About: I’ve taken care of dogs and cats since I was 12 in my neighborhood, and continued to dog sit throughout college. I’ve been with a wide variety of dogs, from Dachshunds to rescued pitbull. I’m currently a PhD student, so my schedule can be pretty flexible. I’m typically free in the evenings, on weekends, and some early mornings. In the summer, I’m even more flexible! I love to spend time with animals and make sure they have all their needs met, whether it’s needing food or wanting to play! They’re always the priority.
“Shyloh was amazing. We highly recommend her. We have a bit of a chaotic household with three high maintenance fur babies and one human teen. The trip snuck up on me and I ran out of time to prepare the house the way I had planned. Shyloh was incredibly flexible and understanding. When we picked up prescription refills for the dogs just before leaving, one was left behind and she remembered to ask about it. I felt this was incredible attention to detail and showed just how seriously she takes the responsibility of watching someone else’s pets. We tend to worry too, but she provided regular updates and was always one step ahead. Even checking to make sure we were home at the time we told her we would just in case the dogs might need her to check on them again if we had been held up. She washed their bowls, had to clean a soiled rug and absolutely left our home in better shape than we left it. We just hope that Shyloh is willing to watch our kiddos again. She was fabulous.”

About: I have taken care of dogs and cats for a while now. I mainly take care of my own pets and I am wanting to get into pet sitting. I have a dog and two cats back home. I promise your pets are in good hands!! I am a student at UNCW in need of a part time job! If we work together I can show you my class schedule - I am very flexible! Furry friends are so important to me. I absolutely love them and put so much love and care into them. I will walk them, love on them, feed them, and do whatever else they need:)

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Kure Beach
I needed a sitter for our dog Willow since my whole family was at an event. I checked out the Rover website for the 1st time and all the reviews. I chose Shyloh F. for the close proximity as well as previous reviews. I was so pleased beyond my expectations with Shyloh. Shyloh visited with Willow 2 times to meet her since she is nervous with new people. I was sent pictures and updates that assured me all was well at home. We came home Sunday to a clean house with all towels and sheets washed and bed made. It was such a nice surprise after the long drive home! I will use and refer Shyloh again in the future.

We were happy to invite Denise back into our home to care for French Toast. French welcomed Denise with tail wags and kisses. Denise took French on some daily ‘adventures’ which he loved. Denise has excellent communication with us and sent photos and descriptions of French’s day. We really appreciate the level of care given to French by Denise. We highly recommend her services.

We had a very positive experience with Sarah. She was reliable, communicative, and sent thoughtful photo updates while we were away, which gave us peace of mind. Most importantly, our Velcro dog clearly felt comfortable with her and really warmed up to her quickly. It’s reassuring to know our pup was in good hands. We would gladly book with her again.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Kure Beach walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Kure Beach maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Kure Beach choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
