“Carissa was awesome during a 3 day house sit! she was so patient with our little guys and they love her!! She sent tons of pics/videos and updates and was really communicative with us. She was also really flexible when we let her know beforehand that one of our doggies had just started limping right before we left. It was an extra cute/sweet touch that she left a little drawing of the doggies. Highly recommend!!”

“It's always hard to leave the old boy, but Marie was outstanding and kept Bentley safe and warm as well as providing a constant presence. Marie is a neat and conscientious house guest and I would not hesitate to ask her back again.”

In addition to caring for my own pets, I have pet sat for a family friend who has three dogs. During that time, I was responsible for feeding, potty breaks, walks, playtime, and making sure they felt comfortable and safe while their owner was away. I understand that every pet has a unique personality and routine, and I make it a priority to follow owners' instructions carefully. I am dependable, patient, and committed to providing pets with the attention, care, and affection they deserve. Whether your pet enjoys active playtime or simply needs companionship, I will treat them as if they were my own. Experience Includes: Daily feeding and fresh water Walks and exercise Potty breaks Playtime and companionship Caring for multiple pets at once Following specific schedules and routines Monitoring pets for safety and well-being Providing updates to owners I currently work part-time Friday through Monday, which gives me plenty of availability during the week to care for your pets. I am available for drop-in visits, walks, feeding, playtime, and companionship throughout the day on weekdays. On workdays, I can stop by before my shift in the morning and again after work in the evening to make sure your pets are well cared for and comfortable. I am committed to following your pet's routine and providing reliable, attentive care so you can have peace of mind while you're away. Your pet's safety and comfort are my top priorities. I always follow the care instructions provided by pet owners, including feeding schedules, exercise routines, medications (if needed), and any special requirements. I take the time to learn each pet's personality and needs so they can feel comfortable and secure while you're away. When caring for pets in a client's home, I respect both the pet's routine and the owner's home. I make sure pets have fresh water, a clean environment, plenty of attention, and appropriate exercise and playtime. I also keep doors and gates secure and monitor pets closely during walks and outdoor time. I understand how important trust is when leaving your pet in someone else's care. I am reliable, attentive, and committed to providing updates and communication so you can have peace of mind knowing your pet is safe, happy, and well cared for.
“We couldn't be more pleased with Christine and the care she took with our dogs and ferret! We hired her to house sit for us with 2 extremely anxious, large dogs, and a ferret for 3 days and 2 nights. She was caring and attentive with our dogs who were very standoffish and afraid, and took the time to engage our ferret in play so she wasn't spending a lot of time alone in her cage. Christine was communicative, giving daily updates, and was respectful of our pets and our home. We would highly recommend Christine to anyone looking for a trustworthy and caring house/pet sitter.”

“Grace was wonderful with my dog and my house while we were away for a few days. She was attentive to pet and house needs, communicative, and extremely easy to work with. We will definitely hire her again!”

“Maya was amazing with our pups. We were in town with our 2 dogs. They are both used to being with us and get anxious when they are not. Maya is very knowledgeable and sweet and knew exactly how to handle them. She played a lot with our very active GSP. She is also very respectful and sends lots of pictures and updates. We booked her twice during our visit and will definitely book her again when we come back.”

“Anja was great with our two dogs. One of our pups is nervous around new people. Anja was patient and compassionate with her. We felt very comfortable about leaving them with Anja. We knew they were in capable hands.”

About: With over 3 years of full time overnight and long-term petsitting experience, I bring real expertise and a whole lot of love to caring for your pets. I grew up on a cattle ranch in Oregon, and animals have been part of my life ever since. I've gone on to care for pets all over the world through various sitting opportunities. I'm comfortable with dogs of different breeds, sizes and energy levels, and I enjoy getting to know each cat's particular quirks. I'm also experienced with senior pets, including administering medications, managing mobility issues, and keeping a close eye on any special needs they have. Over the years I've cared for horses, dogs, cats, and even shrimp, so whatever your pet's personality, your furry (or fin-y) family member will be in experienced, loving hands. I currently work from home full time Monday to Friday. I have a flexible work schedule and can organize my time around walks and overnight sits. I’m available for overnight sits or to drop by and walk and feed pets or check on them while you’re away. The comfort of pets and their owners is my top priority. I’m discreet, punctual and communicative.
“Jonathan took fantastic care of both our dog, Winston, and our house! I would highly recommend him as a pet/house sitter. He took Winston on very long walks, sent daily photos and updates, and kept us informed on Winston's well-being during our absence. We knew Winston was well cared for, and therefore we had no concerns while we were away. Jonathan gave us peace of mind that our "baby" was just fine.”

“Julia watched our 6 month golden retriever in our home for four days. I was never worried about our dog in her care! She has very open communication and sent us updates each day. I highly recommend her to watch your pet!”

About: I’ve trained three very skittish rescue doggies and purebred pups. I dog sit for friends and family often. I am extremely energetic/Athletic and if your doggie wants to go for a run, I am up for that for sure! Or if they just need some calming snuggle time, I’m your girl! I enjoy getting to know pet’s unique personalities and needs. I grew up around animals my whole life — dogs, house cats, barn cats, and even neighboring farm animals and wildlife. Caring for animals has always come naturally to me. Recently losing my longtime companions, Niko, a tiny chihuahua/corgie mix & rescue with a huge personality, and Copper, a golden with a goofball heart of gold, reminded me how deeply our pets become family. I understand how hard it can be to leave your pet at home while working, traveling, or managing a busy schedule, and I know how important it is to have someone trustworthy caring for them. Whether your pet needs walks, playtime, companionship, patience, or extra attention, I’ll treat them with the same love and care I’d want for my own. I look forward to meeting new furry friends and helping give pet owners peace of mind. I called my doggies my kiddos and will care for yours as such! My days are free and can’t wait to fill them up with more joy, walks, training, runs and snuggles. Obedience, praise and love are my core. My pets are my world, I care for and treat others pets as my own. I will treat your home as mine as well! I’m responsible, reliable and trustworthy. Can’t wait to meet!
“Kaitlyn is super communicative, thinks about how to make the experience the best it possibly can be for your pet, and sends tons of photos and updates to make sure you know your pet is in the best hands possible and is happy and taken care of! It’s obvious Kaitlyn enjoys caring for pets and that this means more to her than just a job!”

“Heidi was such a great dog sitter! She was wonderful to work with, very helpful, reliable, and followed all of our instructions carefully. It gave us so much peace of mind knowing our dogs and home were in good hands. We’re truly grateful for her and would absolutely book with her again!”

“Sam did a beautiful job taking care of my cat Gracie! She was friendly, communicative, and conscientious - and very flexible about administering medication short notice. I came home to a clean house and a happy cat. Would happily work with Sam again!”

“Sarah was exceptional! She took such good care of our cat Keagan and communicated with us daily, sending pictures of them interacting. She was very responsible and left our home as clean as we left it. She paid attention to details and went above and beyond. We highly recommend Sarah and would hire her again without question.”

“Mackenzi did a wonderful job with our two dogs. She was a thoughtful dog and house sitter! Everything was cleaned up and the pups were well cared for! Hope to have her back again!”

“Meaghan was outstanding! Our three puppers took to her right away. She was highly communicative giving us so many great pictures and kept us updated on what was going on. She is a 10 out of 10 for us!!”

Rebecca is wonderful. She helped us last minute when we needed it and took care of our two pups. One of our dogs is recovering from a surgery and Rebecca did a great job managing his meds and the physical therapy he needed daily. I would 10/10 recommend her and look forward to working with her again the in future.
Brynn was absolutely fantastic and very communicative. She gave us the best updates while we were away. She did the best job making sure Cosmo had all his needs taken care of and he really seemed to have bonded with her. I cant say anything but amazing things about her and we will definitely be booking with her in the future!

What can I say. My wife & I trusted Katherine with our home and our beloved wiener dog Wilson for 15 days while we traveled. She contacted us daily with pictures and updates, took great care of both Wilson and our home. She provided excellent care for our dog, she even took him to get his nails trimmed because we forgot before we left. She’s a wonderful woman with great knowledge of her profession. We have all ready rebooked her for another trip later this year! Katherine will provide you with what you really need while you are away, Peace of mind. I’ve never been more comfortable with anyone taking care of our home and pet the I was with Katherine.

Five-star service! Joselyn did a fantastic job house sitting and looking after Chance. Professional, communicative, and great with dogs. Chance clearly enjoyed his time with her, and the house looked great when we got back. If you’re looking for someone trustworthy and reliable, look no further.

I cannot recommend Kait enough! She was absolutely amazing with my dog and so loving, attentive, and caring. From start to finish, her communication was clear and consistent, which gave me complete peace of mind while I was away. She followed all of my instructions perfectly and went above and beyond to make sure my pup was comfortable and happy. It was obvious my dog felt cared for and loved. If I ever need another dog or house sitter, Kait will be the first person I call.

Susan was the best pet sitter we could have asked for. She spent 4 nights here and fed our 3 cats (1 is my mom's who hides from the world) and took amazing care of them. Our house was so neat and clean despite having to deal with 3 litter boxes...she is a warm, loving, low key and thoughtful person and is beyond trustworthy. She sent pics of our kitties for the ultimate peace of mind. She's wonderful!!!

Desirae was such a great find! We struggled to find a sitter available for our Ginny for Labor Day weekend but we were so glad to find Desirae. She was prompt and responsive and flexible with her time. Ginny loved her stay with her over the holiday weekend, especially all the snuggles! We would recommend her highly and plan to work with her again. Thanks Desirae!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Johnston on Rover is $48.05 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 1,933 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Johnston. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Johnston walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Johnston maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Johnston choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Johnston. On Rover:
- 95% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 99% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 93% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
