“Ian was so great to meet my dogs on the same day he met them. My pups sound like fierce protectors of the house (but friendly), so we needed someone confident. Great peace of mind that we could slip away for the day. Thank you!”

“Samantha was amazing with my dogs! She bonded with them instantly, quickly got to know their different personalities, and showed so much care during her checkup visits. I felt at ease being away, knowing my pups were in her good hands. The photos and updates much appreciated and made me feel even more connected while I was away. Thank you again, Samantha!”
“Amanda was really responsive, communicative, took great care of Hudson, and was extremely respectful of our home! We were lucky to be able to work with her on short notice for the holidays. Would absolutely recommend.”

About: I’ve grown up around animals all my life! Taking good care of dogs and cats has become a second nature to me. Since I was 5 years old and I’ve been surrounded by animals and deeply care for all of them. I have prior experience working in pet grooming and helped friends and family look after their pets as well. I can do pet care any time of day, the end of august my availability will change because I start school as well as a part time job. I check up on pets often and make sure everything is ok with their health and mood. I love spending time with pets so being around them is very easy for me.
“Natalie was outstanding in her visits of my two cats. She is very reliable and efficient and really cares about the work she does. She went over and above what I asked her to do and was so attentive to them and kept me so well informed everyday at every visit with videos and pictures and details. I would hire her again and again and again!”

“Sweta makes my pup Goose feel comfortable enough to eat his whole meal - that’s a REALLY big deal. It makes me happy to know he’s loved and cared for while I’m not home. So grateful we found Sweta!”

About: I currently have a 2 1/2 year old pug named Alfie. Love going for walks and playing with pups. Have spare time that I can dedicate to giving pets the attention and exercise that they need and deserve. Very attentive and enjoy being outside and living an active lifestyle. But if a dog doesn’t like activity as much I also enjoy cuddling and giving belly rubs inside the house as well. If you’re looking for someone to love your pet and care for them the way you personally would I am the right person for your dog walking or overnight stay needs. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have about your pet! Weekends are the best availability for me. I do have some availability in the mornings to check on animals and go for walks as well. I am willing to visit the pets home to care for them if they are more comfortable staying in their own space. Pets are also welcome in my home if they are good with another dog and comfortable being somewhere new.
“Rachel was wonderful. I have two cats, one who is older and requires medication. It was nice to have the peace of mind knowing my cats were in good hands while we were away. Highly recommend!”

“Rachel is a life-saver! She is always very communicative and amazing with our cats, and she goes above and beyond! She helped us make sure things were in order when we were having some issues at our house while we were out of town, and I was so relieved that she was there to take care of our cats and check on things!”

“Jules was a perfect dog walker/sitter for Bingo. She was understanding, timely, very attentive, and followed all the directions perfectly! Looking forward to her help again soon!!”

About: My wife and I are around the house most of the time. One of us will almost always be home. We have a large fenced yard with room to run and explore, a deck, and a patio for lounging or sunbathing. Always look forward to meeting new dog friends. I’ll take good care of your furry family members and keep them happy. I am 54 years old and have been a lifetime dog owner and foster home for dogs. We have adopted two Bassett Hounds (spayed & neutered) who would enjoy the four-legged company. I work from home, which allows me to be home with the dogs i sit. If I have to run some errands my wife will be here. We do have the occasional family outing, but limit the time we are away. I have a large fenced backyard to run and play in, a large couch to sleep on, and two Bassett hounds to play with. I am experienced with giving medications and special care needs.
About: I owned a dog for 11 years, have walked and boarded multiple neighborhood dogs over the past few years. I love walking dogs, taking them to the dog park, and taking care of them. I’m in-between jobs so my schedule is flexible and access to a car. As a runner, I love being outside and on my feet, and dogs give me a great excuse to do that! At my home, my first priority is making sure dogs don’t have access to food that would harm them. I’m happy to use an owners crate when overnighting dogs, but otherwise they sleep in my small dog bed.
“We really enjoyed our meet and greet with Matt. He was great with both my dogs and his background and understanding of dog behavior and dog training is very reassuring with my very anxious puppers!”

“Mandy was wonderful! She took great care of my dog and cat, was very communicative, and made me feel very comfortable leaving them in her care! I would definitely recommend Mandy to anyone!”

“I’m brand new to using Rover and Jasmin really set the bar high! She was very helpful for me and so sweet to my babies! I’ve got four crazies who are afraid of new ppl but she got them all to listen and calm down with her! She’s amazing and I highly recommend her!”

Andrea took such incredible care of our pups! She gave us great updates and made timely visits. Kept us well informed of everything going on with them, and communicated perfectly! Even went the extra mile and brought packages in for us while away! Highly recommend!

I booked Amillita for 2 check-in sessions at our house and she went above and beyond! This was my first time using Rover and I was a little nervous, but Amillita really made me feel like my pup, Dewey, would be in good hands during our meet and greet. And she definitely delivered! Dewey is a very energetic pup, so I was worried he’d be too much for her. But she played with him, fed him, and even walked him (even though he isn’t the best on the leash yet) 😅. She gave regular updates and sent lots of pictures. So very grateful for Amillita and would highly recommend her!

Sweta saved us last minute by spending time with Sunny while we were in Alexandria. Sunny needs companionship and doesn't like to be alone, and Sweta spent time with him, gave him a walk and kept us updated. She's very responsive and helpful. Sunny seemed happy and we will definitely book with Sweta again. Thank you!

When I had to add a day of travel unexpectedly, Julie was extremely flexible and made sure that my Layla still got the care she needed! It helps that Layla just LOVES getting pets and playing with Julie— I am so grateful for her and will continue to use her as often as I can!

Natalie was outstanding in her visits of my two cats. She is very reliable and efficient and really cares about the work she does. She went over and above what I asked her to do and was so attentive to them and kept me so well informed everyday at every visit with videos and pictures and details. I would hire her again and again and again!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first .
sitters on Rover set their own , which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
