“I’m so thankful Jonathon was able to watch my dog for the 9 days I was out of town. I haven’t left my dog for that long in years, and especially not since he went blind. Jonathon did such a great job taking care of Kirby, taking him for walks, and sending me updates. I could tell Kirby felt comfortable with him, which made me feel comfortable too. Jonathon left my house very clean and watered my plants for me while I was away. I will definitely be reaching out to him again the next time I travel.”

“Polina did a wonderful job watching our high energy boxer pup while we were out of town. She was very considerate of how we trained him and used the commands he knows. She took care of our house while we were away and we won’t hesitate to call Polina again for future sittings! Thanks Polina!”

“Lindsay stayed at the house with our three dogs while we were out of town. She was a great house/dogsitter and we would happily use her again! The house was spotless when we returned and the dogs were very relaxed.”

“Ion was very good with our Louie! He was communicative and kept us updated with pictures of their adventures. It’s not uncommon for Louie to stop eating his food. Ion noticed this and made him a doggie pizza to encourage him to eat and it worked! Louie loves to see Ion and is always happy in his company. Louie is an anxious dog but seems happy and content with Ion. He leaves our home clean and just the way we left it. We would recommend his services to anyone!”

“She was an excellent sitter - sent lots of pictures and updates, very communicative! She ensured our pup was well taken care of and got lots of treats :) Our house was impeccable when we returned - even washed the sheets for us! Would definitely book her again! Thanks Nikki!”

“Emily saved us and is truly AWESOME! She rearranged her schedule to help us in an emergency situation. We were immediately comforted when showed us photos of just how happy Ben was with her :) You can entrust your dog with Emily. She goes above and beyond to make your dog feel like he's still with family. We HIGHLY recommend her!”

“Morgan was amazing - daily updates and pictures - arrived to a clean home - and most importantly, my dog was happy and well exercised when I got home! I will definitely use Morgan again! She even sent me pictures of my flowers that bloomed while I was away!”

“Natasha’s help was incredible. She took excellent care of my two dogs throughout the entire week, making everything easy and stress-free, which allowed me to feel completely at ease and not worry about a thing. She is a wonderful and trustworthy person to leave your dogs with.”

“Trevin is a fantastic dog sitter and we highly recommend him! We have 3 large high energy dogs and Trevin provided excellent care of them in our home. He was willing to walk them (and take them on hikes) which just shows how much he loves being active. Our dogs each have unique personalities and different requirements, but Trevin followed the care instructions perfectly. He sent us pictures and provided the right amount of updates so we knew all was well. An added bonus was that he took care of our home and it was clean and tidy when we returned (he even offered to start the laundry). We use Rover very frequently and Trevin is definitely one of the best sitters we have found. Don’t hesitate in booking his services as he will take excellent care of your dogs and home.”

“Ayla and Han are amazing!! They house sat for us and watched our two cats and dog. Everything went super smoothly and all of the critters had a great week. They were communicative, asked great questions, followed our instructions to a T, and honestly may have even left our house cleaner than they found it. Our dog takes medication 2x a day and they handled that perfectly. Leaving your fur babies is stressful, but I felt totally confident with Ayla and Han!”

“We were out of the country for a week. I got daily photos and updates on my pups. They seemed very happy and well taken care of. Our terrier Baxter takes a bit to warm up to strangers but he was cuddled up to Christie by that evening. Our house was left clean and orderly. I will definitely use her again!”

“Isaiah house sat for our 2 older dogs. His communication was great and did well with dogs. Gentle manner and seems to really like dogs. Came for a free meet and greet with them prior to dog sitting. He even sent pictures of the dogs, which helps when we’re away from them. He also gave the medicine to the dogs just fine, which was really important. We plan to use him again.”

“I will absolutely be using Aislyn again to watch my dogs. The dogs loved her and she communicated with texts and photos. I highly recommend her for your dog care needs!”

“Once again Lance was the perfect choice to watch Harley and our house while out of town! We got lots of updates and photos of her being loved on :) Lance also took the time to bring our trash cans up to the house from our curb and brought in almost a dozen packages that came while we were gone.”

“Rachael is fantastic. We used her twice to look after our pup Sadie while we were out of town! She is reliable and trustworthy and we will definitely use her again for future bookings.”

“Thomas W. was an excellent pet and house sitter. We would definitely use him again. Our house was in good shape and the dog was fine. He sent pictures every day so we were able to enjoy our vacation and not worry.”

“Morgan did a great job taking care of our Chase! She is excellent with communication, providing daily texts and picture updates of walks and hanging out. She was able to distribute heart meds to a very picky dog. We were able to enjoy our trip to the fullest knowing Chase was being well taken care of.”

Trevin was a great sitter. He watched our 2 dogs. One 2 years old and one 7 month old puppy. We were gone for two weeks out of the country and Trevin made us feel comfortable with daily check ins and photos. Our dogs were well taken care of. Trevin also taught them and continued training while we were away. He has been the best sitter we have found on Rover.

Lance took care of my dogs over a 4-day holiday weekend. He did an amazing job! He kept me updated on how things were going and sent pictures which I appreciated! Lance stayed at my house with the pups and left everything spotless. He promptly arrived when scheduled and stayed until the evening of the last day to make sure they had dinner before we got home. I highly recommend Lance to watch after your fur babies!

Addison was amazing with Butters! She made him feel very comfortable and made sure he was well cared for while we were away. She was always very prompt with her responses and regularly sent us photos and videos, which we really appreciated. She also left the house very clean and well taken care of. We felt completely at ease knowing Butters was in good hands. I would 100% book with Addison again and highly recommend her!

This is my third time booking with Polina, and I couldn't be happier with her service. She and her boyfriend clearly love dogs; their genuine affection is obvious, and my dogs are always so happy around them. She's reliable, attentive, and truly cares for the animals she watches. She even left my apartment cleaner than I left it. I highly recommend her, she's the best sitter I've had. :)

Brooke was amazing. This was our first time using a sitter in our own home to see if it reduced the stress on our babes and everything went so well. Brooke gave use updates at least twice a day (morning and night) and sometimes during the day too. Our pets were so happy being with her, snuggling, and getting their walks/pets. We came back to our apartment looking great and 2 happy pets.

Saya was so great with Chester! How can I tell? Because Chester wasn't over-clingy when I got home! Saya send me a photo a day, which always keeps a pet mom feeling secure. He also gave Chester his insulin shots, twice a day. Chester would love for Saya to come back next time!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Gateway walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Gateway maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Gateway choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
