Paula is the most amazing sitter I could ever ask for! She sends updates, photos and even takes the cutest polaroid's with her camera for us! She is beyond attentive, thoughtful and actually interacts with my puppy Kona and gives him all the attention he needs since he has a lot of energy. 10/10 would recommend her to everyone!

Pazao was and is a dream! She took the BEST care of our almost 4 year old English Bull Terrier and we couldn’t have asked for more! She also house sat during her time with Biggie Duane and we are so thankful for the peace her care brought to us. If we could give a 10 star review we would! Thank you Pazao for everything!

I can't recommend Angel highly enough! He was very responsive to our initial inquiry about having him stay with our 2 dogs while we were on vacation. We scheduled a couple of visits prior to our vacation to make sure everything would be a good fit. He was so good with our boys and made us feel super comfortable with leaving them in his care. He sent many updates, pictures and videos while we were gone, which we greatly appreciated. He took my crazy dog lady instructions in stride and did a great job taking care of our boys, our plants and our house. Angel gets an A+ from us!

His communication was excellent. He sent regular updates with photos and videos, so I always knew how my pup was doing. Most importantly, it was clear how much he truly cared for my dog. When I came home, he was happy, healthy, and clearly well-loved. I will absolutely be booking again. Thank you so much!

This is our second time having Alicia house sit out Zarya. She is a great guest in our house and takes amazing care of our Zarya. It’s odd to think that we trust someone whom we never actually met in person with our pup and home while out of cell service but she makes it so stress free. Can’t wait for Zarya and Alicia’s next hangout!

About: Hello! My name is Kenzie and I am excited to be your pets friend!! I have experience with many different types of animals, as I’ve worked with neighbor and friends animals as well as at a petting zoo that over the last 14 years. Within that experience I have handled reptiles, rodents, small pigs, dogs and cats! There are obviously many animals I have yet to have a lot of experience with, but I am amazing at following well detailed instructions. I am happy and excited to get as many photos or check ins as makes each individual pet parent happy and comfortable. As an added bonus, my eldest cat has been on insulin shots twice a day for four years now. So I am familiar with handling animal’s for shots, and I’ve also had to administer pills as well. Thank you for your time and consideration! I have a fairly flexible schedule and am more than willing to work with pet parents on days and times that work for them. My availability on the weekend may vary, but I am usually pretty open during the week. I do not plan to bring peoples animals into my home for the time being as I have special need animals of my own that would not fair well with it

Khaytlen was absolutely amazing while staying at my home to take care of my 2 GSDs. She treated both my pups and my house with the utmost care and respect. I received regular updates and photos, and it was clear that Holly and Kane were happy, super active with long walks, and well loved the entire time. The house was spotless when I returned, and my dogs barely seemed to notice I’d been gone — the best sign of all! I couldn’t have asked for a more reliable, thoughtful, and kind sitter. I’ll definitely be booking Khaytlen again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trusted in-home dog sitter! 🐾

About: I’ve had at least three dogs in my house growing up whether they were old or puppies, so I know how to potty train and take care of any age dog. I currently don’t have a job so your pups would have all my attention! I’m available to house sit when needed, I’m free all day. I make sure your pups always have what they need. Whether that’s needing to go outside, go on a walk, or even just getting some pets in.

Annie is extremely nervous and anxious when left with anyone but us, and Megan was sensitive to her needs. We really appreciate you, Megan. We look forward to having you take care of our babies again soon. Thank you!

We couldn’t have asked for a better pet and house sitter! From the very beginning, Paula was incredibly kind, reliable, communicative, and attentive. We felt completely comfortable leaving our home and pets in her care, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. Paula took wonderful care of our pets and treated them as if they were her own. We received regular updates and photos, which we absolutely loved and really helped us feel connected while we were gone. It was clear that our pets were happy, comfortable, and well cared for. Paula also took excellent care of our home and left everything clean, tidy, and exactly as we had left it. She was respectful of our space, responsible, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of. We truly appreciated how dependable and thoughtful she was throughout the entire stay. It’s such a relief to find someone you can completely trust with both your pets and your home. We would 100% recommend them to anyone looking for a trustworthy, caring, and responsible pet and house sitter. We will absolutely be reaching out to them again in the future!

Zoey response was very prompt on my short notice request. Within hours she made arrangements for a meet and greet. We had a funeral so our booking was short notice and Alexus still accomodated our last minute schedule (and this was the first time she watched our pups). She was very communicative and sent lots of pictures/videos/updates. We’ve had really bad experiences with other sitters where you can tell they didn’t really do what you asked but we can tell Alexus did. We know our dogs weren’t on the couch and they were walked the way they need to (so they don’t chew anything up). The house was spotless. She took out the trash, started a load of dishes, and stripped the bedding. Our dogs LOVED her when she came to do a meet and greet too!! We appreciate it so much and hope to keep using Alexus for our pups!

Alysa was an absolutely wonderful house sitter! She took such great care of all our animals and clearly treated them like her own. Our home was left spotless, communication was prompt and friendly, and we loved receiving updates and photos—especially of our pups enjoying their walks! It gave us so much peace of mind knowing they were in such good hands. We would 100% trust Alysa with our animals again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable and caring sitter. 🐾✨

FAQs for House Sitting - Fort Lewis

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Fort Lewis on Rover is $42.8 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of September 2026, there are 2,896 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Fort Lewis. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Fort Lewis walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Fort Lewis maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Fort Lewis choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Fort Lewis. On Rover:

  • 95% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 96% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 95% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
