“Brian dog sat in our home for the week and was absolutely wonderful! He kept us updated with messages and pictures throughout our trip, which gave us such peace of mind. He was incredibly attentive, caring, and loving with our pup. We came home to a happy, well-cared-for dog and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Glad we booked with him again!”

“Cheryl is an absolutely incredible sitter. I can’t say enough good things about how well she cares for my puppy, Remy. I have such peace of mind while traveling knowing that she is caring for Remy. She provides consistent updates and sends the cutest pictures. I HIGHLY recommend Cheryl.”

“Mary Ann was absolutely a lovely person, and a terrific dog sitter. She is so in tune with the needs of each specific dog that she watches, and extremely proactive. Such a gentle and kind person, so it makes sense that she’s terrific with animals! We would absolutely hire her again, without any hesitation. She provided frequent updates, and our dog loved her :) She even left us notes of an observation on a potential medical concern. She loves dogs, and it is obvious in her care. Very professional, respectful, compassionate and kind. Thank you, Mary Ann!”

“This is our 2nd time booking Shandy for house sitting, she’s great! She follows detailed care instructions, sent lots of pictures and frequently checks in. We came back to a clean home, and calm and happy pup. We will definitely book with her again in the future.”

“This was our first time using Brad to sit at our house with our dog, Winni. Everything went smoothly. He gave us an update every day and sent pictures. The first night he was at our house, our power went out!!!Brad was very capable and calm and assured us that it was no problem. We would definitely use Brad again.”

“Alison was amazing with our dogs and the dogs loved her! She was ver communicative and sent tons of pics of the dogs having fun and on walks. 10/10 would recommend her! We will be using her again.”

“I’m very anxious any time I have to leave my babies and Gabby made me feel so much better. It was so much easier to enjoy my trip knowing my pets were in capable hands. She was very communicative and followed our notes to a T. Thank you, Gabby!!”

“Shannette was AMAZING. I HIGHLY recommend her. The app offers a service for nighttime dog sitting. We were able to arrange for daytime dog sitting in our home. My dog suffers stress-colitis and having him at a doggy hotel was not an option. Shannette was EXTREMELY trustworthy while we were away for 8 days on vacation. She kept him company at home, gave him lots of cuddles, checked in regularly with us, was punctual with walking him three times a day, cleaning his paws before entering the home after a walk (we have old carpet we’re trying to preserve) and always feeding him as scheduled. She was respectful of our home rules and I just can’t brag enough about how amazing Luca did while he was in her care. Our home was respected, our dog was cared for, and she was AMAZING as a human being! Don’t overthink it, book her. I HIGHLY recommend her!”

“HIGHLY RECOMMEND KATE! She was such a pleasure to work with. We had a peace of mind while away of her caring for our cats. She would reach out with any questions, yet more importantly would send photos and videos of her interactions with the cats. <3 <3 <3 She was extra helpful with watering plants, too. Need to figure out our next time away to use her again! :)”

“Brooke was amazing! She took such great care of our two very hyper corgis. She sent lots of updates with photos and thorough recaps of each day. We will absolutely be using her again.”

“Naidilis was great with our dog Kimbo for the weekend. This was our first time booking with her and we were very impressed. She communicated very well and sent a lot of photos. She really spent time with our dog which was reassuring and took him on walks. Thank you so much! Highly recommended!!!”
“Krystie is absolutely who you want sitting your pets!! This was my first time hiring a sitter. We usually have my niece or good friend watch the dogs for us, but that wasn't possible this time. I was pretty nervous about having a stranger in charge of my home and my babies, but it was clear from the outset that Krystie knows what she's about when it comes to dogs. They took to her immediately at the meet-and-greet, and she took SUCH great care of them all week. I swear, she took better care of them than we do! My husband and I joked that we needed to bring home extra special treats to bribe them back into loving us haha. She sent pictures and videos every day, had great communication, and just showered the pups with love and attention. If you're feeling nervous about hiring a sitter, I can tell you Krystie is the right choice.”

“Svetlana sent photos and texts and our pets were very well taken care of while we were away. We have two dogs with very different energy levels, routines and personalities, but she managed to juggle them both. Her communication pre dog sitting was excellent and she arrived early so she could meet our dogs and spend some time with them before we left the house. I am very happy with Svetlana as a dog sitter and we will definitely call her again. THANK YOU Svetlana”

“Jordyn did a great job caring for my westie in my home while I was away for a week. She sent updates and pictures. He was well cared for. When I returned home, Jordyn made sure everything was in perfect order! Linus misses her already! We’ll be calling Jordyn again! I highly recommend her!”

“Michael came to our apartment to watch our dogs Mickey and Hector. Hector has kidney failure and started getting worse right before he was supposed to watch the him. He was extremely understanding and honest. He was sending feedbacks regularly. Our apartment was nice and clean when we got back. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a dog a sitter, he is great!”
“Susi is fantastic! She sent adorable photos every day and took such good care of our kitty. We didn’t fret one moment while we were away knowing Glinda was in good hands.”

About: I grew up with 3 Shiba Inus for close to 17 years and now have 2 cats of my own, Pepper Jack and Colbie Jacqueline. I have extensive experience with special needs dogs as my Shibas had varying disabilities ranging from mobility related to medication needing and eventually to doggy dementia. For around 4 years I worked at a high end pet resort/daycare. Though my main responsibility was taking photographs of the pets, I would assist with walking, grooming, and monitoring activities. While there, I had experience with animals of all ages. I continue to do freelance pet photography. As a recent MFA graduate, I am currently splitting my time between teaching classes/events at a ceramics studio and working within my own art studio. As my schedule varies and is very moveable, I can make myself available for you and your pets! When I come into your home, I will have the utmost care and respect for both the space itself and for your pets’ comfortability as a guest in their safe space.
“Lisa was amazing taking care of my kitten! She kept me updated and sent pictures the entire time I was away. I would recommend her to anyone with a cat/kitten. I knew my kitten was in very safe hands and would absolutely rebook with Lisa!”

Danuta was absolutely fantastic - she and my dog became instant friends! She did in-house care for us as a huge heat wave hit, and she made little dog popsicles for my pooch to help keep her cool and have a fun treat. They went in walks and explored daily - Danuta was great, and will be a regular dog sitter/walker for us!!

Jennifer was wonderful, and we highly recommend her. She stayed in our home for 9 days, taking excellent care of our dog, Luna, as well as our fish, Bluey, and our plants. She communicated daily, often multiple times, sending thoughtful updates and photos that gave us great peace of mind. Seeing Luna happy and well cared for made being away much easier. Jennifer went above and beyond, caring for Luna, maintaining Bluey, watering our plants, and keeping our home in great condition. We returned to a happy dog, thriving plants, a well-cared-for fish, and a spotless house. She is responsible, kind, and attentive, and we would absolutely trust her again.

Katie & Zayn were an absolute life saver when we found ourselves a few days away from a trip with no pet sitter. As soon as we met them, we felt comfortable leaving our home and our furry crew in their capable hands. Our dog in particular loved them immediately. They were prompt, professional, had excellent communication and provided many pictures during their stay. Our pets were well taken care of and it was easy to see that while we were away. Katie and Zayn - thank you for taking such great care of our pets!! ❤️

Alejandra took wonderful care of our Rottweiller while we were away on vacation. She spent so much quality time with our dog, who absolutely loved her! We felt so much better knowing our pup was in really good hands. She will certainly be our go-to anytime we go away.

Mike did a great job with our crew while we were traveling over Spring Break. We have one dog who takes some time warm up, but she was calm and easy with Mike and was behaving well throughout his stay. Mike watched both our cats and dogs, followed their schedule and kept us in the loop. He was responsive and easy to work with. Highly recommend.

Lindsey always goes above and beyond — 5 stars! The peace of mind she gives my wife and I when we’re traveling is priceless. It’s awesome feeling so comfortable and confident in someone staying at our house and truly caring for our standard poodle Pippa. Best sitter we’ve ever had.

Thank you so much Jon for taking such good care of Sasha. Your periodic updates were extremely helpful and comforting while we were away. We appreciate your flexibility in accommodating special care for our senior child. Your attention to detail during the planning session (the day before scheduled caretaking) was impeccable. You gave us more than needed reasons in hiring you for future care for Sasha.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Essex Fells on Rover is $83.25 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of August 2026, there are 18,646 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Essex Fells. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Essex Fells walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Essex Fells maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Essex Fells choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
