We couldn’t be more pleased with our experience with Megan! She took wonderful care of our 11-week-old poodle puppy while we were away for ann evening. Communication with her was excellent from start to finish, and she was very easy to work with. Our puppy was happy and well-cared for when we returned, and we felt completely at ease knowing she was in good hands. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable and caring pet sitter!

Elissa was so great when she house sat for us to watch our cat and dog. She sent plenty of updates and made sure she had all the information she needed, like double checking the feeding schedule and making sure there were no medications to administer. Will definitely see if she’s available the next time we need help with the pets!

About: For a little over four years I've been the go-to pet sitter for my coworkers when they go on vacation. I've researched all things related to dogs pretty much from the moment I learned to use a computer because I've spent almost all my life trying to convince my parents to get a dog. Spoiler alert, I was unsuccessful ): but not for lack of trying ("dogs are too big of a financial commitment" according to them... but four kids isn't??? but I digress lol)! Training has always been fascinating to me, it never fails to amaze me how smart dogs are! Overall I just love their energy and how loving they can be, being around dogs is truly therapeutic and does wonders for your mental health! You're so blessed to have one in your life and I would be honored to care for them (: <3 Sunday-Wednesday and Friday I work 7-3 and I’m off all day on Thursday and Saturday! Currently taking a break from school, so as soon as I get out of work I'll be free to devote my time to your doggies (: I live in a big apartment with a home office that I turn into the doggy room essentially although they are welcome to roam throughout the apartment of course! My neighborhood is very walkable (one of my favorite things about where I live) and I’m about a mile and a half away from like 3 parks!

Stef is the absolute best sitter. Personally, I want to gatekeep her so we have her all to ourselves but that wouldn’t be fair to Stef or the animals. I feel so at peace leaving both my dog and cat in her care. She always keeps us up to date on our pets. Her photos are phenomenal and her attention to detail is just top notch. (She’ll pay attention to the temperature for the animals, check things around the house and on top of that she’s also provided us with some tips for our dog). I can’t say enough good things about Stef whether she’s just popping in for a quick visit or coming to stay at our home. She’s our gold standard for sitters.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND KATE! She was such a pleasure to work with. We had a peace of mind while away of her caring for our cats. She would reach out with any questions, yet more importantly would send photos and videos of her interactions with the cats. <3 <3 <3 She was extra helpful with watering plants, too. Need to figure out our next time away to use her again! :)

I was very anxious using Rover for the first time. This was also the first time leaving my 11mo puppy for an extended period. I'd had 2 planned meets with Melissa prior and felt comfortable with her but still a little worried! There were some minor bumps but overall Melissa handled my OCD (3pg typed letter!) And Ryders acting out behavior well! She did great looping me in when there was an issue and asking for suggestions and sending pics when he was good and having fun. She was sweet and got him a toy which he loves! I didn't have cell service when I was away so appreciated her being flexible and using Whats app or open to email if need be. Overall was a good experience and a learning one for me and Ryder!

Jennifer house sit with our dog for several days and was great to work with. I would highly recommend. When we came home we can tell that our dog was well taken care of and happy. She also took care of the house very well- and went above and beyond for us. She kept us posted and gave us updates on how our dog was doing and what he was up to. Our dog also had a recent minor leg injury and Jennifer was extra careful with him and followed our instructions well.

Brooke is an all around wonderful person and it translates over to the way she cares for dogs. Our dog, Chancha, had the best time with her! It was a last minute booking, too! My boyfriend took me on a surprise trip to propose and if it weren’t for Brooke’s quick response and willingness to dog sit, he might’ve haven’t had that chance or made this trip happen! So, thank you beyond words!!! She is responsible, compassionate, and truly someone that loves dogs. I wouldn’t skip her over! She is 6 stars out of 5.

Brian was great! He was personable, kind, and immediately made me feel comfortable leaving my dog in his care. He was trustworthy, communicative, and it was obvious that he genuinely enjoys spending time with animals. My French Bulldog, Fifi, absolutely loved playing with him. We came home and she was happy and well cared for. We were so pleased with the experience that we’ve already talked about booking with him again. I highly recommend Brian to anyone looking for a reliable and caring pet sitter!

Danuta was absolutely fantastic - she and my dog became instant friends! She did in-house care for us as a huge heat wave hit, and she made little dog popsicles for my pooch to help keep her cool and have a fun treat. They went in walks and explored daily - Danuta was great, and will be a regular dog sitter/walker for us!!

Katie & Zayn were an absolute life saver when we found ourselves a few days away from a trip with no pet sitter. As soon as we met them, we felt comfortable leaving our home and our furry crew in their capable hands. Our dog in particular loved them immediately. They were prompt, professional, had excellent communication and provided many pictures during their stay. Our pets were well taken care of and it was easy to see that while we were away. Katie and Zayn - thank you for taking such great care of our pets!! ❤️

Mike did a great job with our crew while we were traveling over Spring Break. Mike watched both our cats and dogs, followed their schedule and kept us in the loop. He was responsive and easy to work with. Highly recommend.

I especially appreciated the regular updates, photos, and messages that gave me peace of mind while I was away. It’s not easy leaving your pet behind, but knowing he was in such caring hands made all the difference. When I came back, my dog was happy, relaxed, and clearly well cared for. I would absolutely recommend this sitter to anyone looking for someone trustworthy, reliable, and genuinely passionate about animals. I will definitely be booking again!

FAQs for House Sitting - North Caldwell

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in North Caldwell on Rover is $49.95 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 18,518 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across North Caldwell. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred North Caldwell walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in North Caldwell maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in North Caldwell choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in North Caldwell. On Rover:

  • 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
