Angela was the first person (other than family) we’ve had stay with our dog in 9 years. We were so anxious and she agreed to come do a meet and greet a few days before which made us feel so much better. She sent us frequent photos and updates. Our pup was a happy girl when we got home!

I felt very comfortable leaving my dog and elderly cat (who gets meds 2x/day!) with Michelle for 12 days. She is very responsible, has great attention to detail and is highly attentive to making sure all bases are covered. Additionally, and so important, she has a kind, loving and compassionate energy - I felt at ease leaving my furry children and home with her and was not disappointed!

Brently was absolutely amazing with our 6 month old samoyed puppy. He was very communicative and sent lots of pictures. He took Apollo for many walks and gave him lots of exercise and potty breaks. Brently stayed in our house for a few nights and was a very respectful guest and kept everything spotless. We came home to Apollo being happy, healthy, and in a great mood. Wonderful experience overall. We definitely will be seeing him again! Thank you soo much!!

About: I've lived with pets all my life, my family rescued Great Pyrenees so I am comfortable with large breeds, as well as animals in the process of being rehabilitated. I customize every visit to match your pet's precise physical and emotional needs. I am diligent regarding medication schedules, monitoring for subtle signs of discomfort or health changes, and adapting the environment to keep mobility impaired pets safe and comfortable. I'm a local law student so I am available anytime that I do not have class. Pet care is a welcome study break for me. For puppies, I focus heavily on consistency and foundation building. I reinforce crate training schedules, practice polite leash walking, and use positive reinforcement to support your ongoing obedience and socialization goals, ensuring your puppy's training never skips a beat while you're away. For senior pets and animals with chronic medical conditions, I bring a calm, patient presence combined with medical vigilance.

About: I have lifelong experience caring for animals, especially dogs. I've had dogs my entire life, including growing up with a 140-pound Pit Bull, later caring for a Staffordshire/Pit Bull mix, and now having a Pomeranian. I've also dog-sat for many families with dogs of all different sizes, ages, and personalities. I have experience with cats as well through my best friend, who has six cats and a dog. Beyond dogs and cats, I volunteer with GallopNYC, which provides therapeutic horseback riding for people with disabilities, and I also volunteer at a horse stable. These experiences have taught me to be patient, attentive, and responsible when caring for animals. I'm also very comfortable caring for homes. I understand the importance of keeping a home clean, secure, and respected while someone is away. Since I work from home, I'm able to spend a lot of time at the house, keep up with pets' routines, and make sure everything is well looked after throughout the stay. I have a flexible schedule and work from home, so I’m able to spend a lot of time with the animals throughout the day. I can be around for regular feedings, walks, playtime, and any other care they need, rather than leaving them alone for long periods. I’m also able to adjust my schedule around their routine and make sure they get plenty of attention and care while I’m there. Jewel was quick to respond to my request and asked many good questions before agreeing to house sit. She also wanted to have a meet and greet before our appointment which I really appreciated. She is very communicative, thorough in terms of what is expected and knowing what the dogs need, and very good-humored; she even took notes during our meeting. The dogs were immediately comfortable with her and I was perfectly confident leaving them in her care. She gave me updates during the day, and everything was great when I returned. The dogs were happy and so was I. I would certainly request her to stay with them again.

About: Hi! I'm a full-time professional pet sitter with 4+ years of experience caring for 100+ animals with many special needs, and many repeat clients. I'm also a certified dog trainer, and I always try to reinforce good habits to help all the dogs I meet be a little better adjusted to their human-centered lives, especially when their humans are away. I have been petsitting full-time since early 2023 and love it. I work from home and have a flexible schedule to dote on your best friend(s)! I grew up in a home full of animals (dogs, cats, fish, hamster, guinea pig, bird!) and I've had dogs for almost my whole adult life. After my senior dog passed away in 2022, I decided that while I'm not ready to get another dog, I will seek out time with every furry creature that will acknowledge my existence! My previous dog was a rescued pittie who had some behavior issues when I got her, and I did tons of training with her, so I feel confident I can add value for your dog being better behaved than when you left. She wasn’t reliably great with all dogs so am used to navigating the challenges of dogs who can be reactive on leash. She also had a couple chronic health issues (esp with skin allergies) throughout her life and I gave her countless medications over the years, so I feel very comfortable with that. The last year or so of her life she was definitely a senior doggie with lots of issues (vestibular disease, canine cognitive decline) I dealt with from helping her up and down stairs to finding creative ways to play when she couldn’t do the things we did when she was younger, so I (unfortunately) would feel comfortable navigating the challenges of senior doggies. I also love cats too! I grew up with cats and have petsat for many, ranging from cuddle bugs to semi feral to potentially aggressive (though she doesn’t try to attack me anymore)! By now I have petsit for quite a few special needs animals, who trained me well! I regularly cared for a senior dog with diabetes, so I am comfortable giving insulin shots. I also watched a dog who was essentially in hospice care. I spent 3 weeks taking care of a cat with asthma and another month with a cat to whom I administered chemotherapy, and I have excellent testimonials from all of their humans. I love being active and going on long walks, but I’m also happy to be a couch potato if I’ve got a furry friend keeping me company. A few years ago, I spent 6 months dogsitting in Mexico for 3 dogs rescued off the street who were not housebroken or trained when I got there but were transformed by the time I left. I spent 3 years volunteering at the San Francisco SPCA as a dog adoption counselor and dog walker and have had dogs almost my whole life, including for 17 years of my previous dog. I’ve also done years of advocacy work for animals, including helping to pass laws in 4 states to protect farmed animals, and I’ve been vegan for 20+ years (but understand if your dog has a different diet than I do!). I am new to Rover, but Daiya, Spanky, Kiwanis, Laurie, Ollie, Rasta, Jerry, Rudy, Charlie, River, Louie, Giles, Druscilla, Marigold, Juniper, and many more have trained me well. I work from home and choose my own hours so am very flexible and available to work around your or your buddy’s schedule. I have sat for animals that have wildly different preferences and I’m lucky to be able to accommodate them with my schedule. I do petsitting in the pet’s home, where they are most comfortable. By profession, I am a summer camp director so am background checked and entrusted with the lives of children! I am also responsible for overseeing countless logistics, adjusting to changing circumstances on the fly, being kind and professional to everyone, think of safety first (second and third— I’m pretty obsessed with creating a backup plan for everything that we could anticipate could possibly go wrong), leaving a venue nicer than we found it, and trying to look on the bright side when things get challenging. Hopefully those will serve me well in petsitting for you too 💕

From the time we met Kara-Ann at our scheduled Meet & Greet, I knew she would take great care of our two pups! She liked them and they liked her. And while I missed my puppies the whole time we were away, I knew that I left them in good hands with no worries. Kara-Ann was a great communicator and I never had to worry. And when we came home from vacation, the pups were their usual crazy selves. I will definitely use Kara-Ann again and I highly recommend her!

I was reluctant to take a five day vacation because my cats have never been without me for more than one night and one of them is a Velcro kitty. I chose Jane after meeting her because I could tell she is caring and detail oriented, and out of all the candidates to spend nights at my home, she stood out. Now that I’m back, I know I had made the right choice; Jane was very loving with the kitties, remembered the nuances of their food and treat habits and sent photos and videos throughout, which gave me peace of mind. I will be a repeat client, for sure.

I truly can’t put into words how grateful we are for Joanna and the care she provided for D. D is a rescue with past trauma, so he is extremely fearful and skittish at first. He’s not an easy dog. Joanna showed INCREDIBLE patience, especially on the first day, giving D the time and space he needed to warm up. Her calm and gentle nature immediately put him at ease. She took him on daily walks and trips to the dog park and consistently sent photos and thoughtful updates, which gave me so much peace of mind. There is nothing more comforting than knowing your dog is happy, comfortable, and truly cared for, and Joanna exceeded all expectations. She also took wonderful care of my apartment — I returned to a clean and tidy home. I would absolutely trust Joanna again and cannot recommend her highly enough.

FAQs for House Sitting - Elmont

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Elmont on Rover is $88.8 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of September 2026, there are 18,758 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Elmont. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Elmont walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Elmont maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Elmont choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Elmont. On Rover:

  • 88% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
