“Rose is such an amazing person and we wouldn’t want to leave our 2 dogs and cat with anyone else. She has done such an incredible job each time we have used her and can’t wait to use her again!”

“Words cannot adequately capture how superb James was. I had so much anxiety leaving my babies to take a vacation, but it’s clear I had nothing to worry about with James. He was kind, caring, and attentive to the intricacies of managing my four pets. I’ve had a lot of people pet sit in the past, including friends and family, but nobody has done it better than James. I cannot recommend him highly enough!”

“Lily is wonderful. She has been caring for our two independently-minded cats for a couple of years now, ranging for periods from a few days to three weeks. It is fair to say that she has won them over completely - - they are enchanted by her. We see this in their playfulness & excitement with her on the Ring camera. It is clear that she loves animals, that our cats love her and she loves them. Always conscientious, reliable, and a quick communicator, we are delighted to have found her!”

About: I frequently petsit my friend dogs and cats when they are out of town. I grew up with dogs and really miss having one at home. I work full time and I would be a great fit if your critter is ok with being left alone while I work for about 8 hours. I'm available most days and if I have a blocked off day you really need petsitting, please let me know and mostly I probably adjust my schedule. Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks! I typically enjoy spending as much time as possible with your pet! I love going on long walks and quick runs with pets. Please let me know if you have any particular care needs for your pets!
“Tova is the best cat/house sitter ever! So attentive to detail, conscientious, thoughtful and sweet. She lovingly cared for our 17-year-old quirky cat and rolled with a last-minute unanticipated need to feed her daily pills. She sent wonderful photos and detailed updates every day. She did everything we asked and more; for example, watering a plant that she noticed was drooping and organizing our mail and boxes into neat piles. Maine is a "dog state," and we have a beloved dog ourselves, but it is harder to find someone who vibes with beloved cats, especially needier old ones. Tova was just the right purr-son!”

“Rachel went above and beyond when our Miss Nahla was quite unexpectedly less than welcoming to her, despite them meeting twice beforehand. Rachel was willing to work a different approach and was wonderfully successful. We are very grateful for her being a super and direct communicator and for giving it a go a second time.”

“Katie has been fantastic in her drop-in visits with our mini wiener dogs. She responded quickly when our previous Rover friend let us know she was moving, and has been professional, friendly, and easy to communicate with since that time. Most importantly she goes out of her way to keep both of our dogs safe and happy, one who likes to cuddle and the other who is always looking for the next adventure.”

“Marna was reliable and took great care of our kitties while we were away. She also went out of her way to open a plant delivery that arrived late and watered it for me, which was really appreciated. We would definitely recommend her.”

“Super reliable. Goes above and beyond what I expected from a rover sitter. Took lots of great picture of the dogs on thier walk. Would recommend and will hire again.”

About: I grew up with big dogs and many cats and have a lot of experience with them! Family and friends have relied on me to walk, feed, and play with their pets while they are out of town or if they are behind on time. I am an animal lover and would love to keep your pet company while you’re away. I currently work full time so my schedule varies weekly! I would’ve to hep get your pups outside when I get home from work or before depending on my shift. Please reach out to coordinate! Not only will I walk you dog but I’ll make sure to give them lots of love and more than just a bathroom break! I’ll make sure to get the energy they’ve been saving all day out.

“Amazing to our girl Rosie. Never had an issue. Easy to work with and an incredible animal person. We’ll be rebooking with Nicolette as soon as we move back to the area”

About: Hi! I’m Nicholas, a lifelong dog lover and experienced dog sitter here in Portland, ME. I enjoy providing walks, hikes, playtime, and belly rubs to make sure your dog feels loved and safe while you’re away. I’m happy to accommodate any special needs required for your dog. This could include administering medications, handling dietary restrictions, and following your dog’s routine. Your dog’s happiness and comfort are my top priorities! My wife and I are the go to dog sitter for our circle of friends, and hope someday to get a dog of our own! I’d love to meet your furry friend and provide them with excellent care! I work from home Monday-Friday till 5pm. I could do any dog walks after work, or any other care needed. I will be available some weekends. I would make sure to take special care of your dog, and make your dog feel comfortable. If I only did a house visit, I would make sure your dog has everything they need, before I left your house.
“Briana took excellent care of our diabetic cat! She really went above and beyond, playing with him and giving him affection, and is one of only 2 sitters who have successfully been able to administer insulin injections.”

Matthew did a great job with our dogs. He took them out on walks and took great pictures for us to see. He also gave them treats and was good to them. He had 3 dogs to deal with over the time and they all seemed happy with him. Great dog sitter who I would definitely use again!

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Cumberland. On Rover:
- 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
