“Michele was the live-in cat sitter of my dreams but that I didn't expect to find. I appreciated the daily photos and little anecdotes she shared about how my fur babies were doing during our two weeks away. I also felt very comforted that my cats were receiving the attention that they're used to from us - very easy to tell because neither cat was exceptionally needy when we returned. I'm very happy with this first experience using rover.com and highly recommend Michele.”

“Aryanna took wonderful care of our two kitty boys for a week! They were very happy when we arrived home and we know they were happy while we were gone with the pictures that were taken! Also Aryanna checked in daily with us to let us know everything was going well. The apartment looks the same as we left it, the trash was taken out, and packages were brought up without even asking! If you need a pet sitter Aryanna is the way to go!”

“I’ve used Kayla more than once and always have a great experience. She took excellent care of my two dogs and cat for two weeks, sent daily photo updates, and left our home clean—even washing the sheets before she left. She’s also very flexible and easy to work with. Highly recommend!”

“Great and flexible dog sitter. Was able to adjust days and times as life happened and made us adjust our travel plans. Our dogs are not the easiest but they warmed to her quickly and it made for a great match.”

“Destinee was amazing, she took care of my two dogs for a full day, and i can confirm they were great took care, meals and walks on time, always asking how she can help, it was a great experience for me and my dogs, if i ever need someone to take care of my dogs any other day I’ll absolutely go with her with no hesitation!!”

“Grace watched Bentley over the weekend and did a fantastic job! She did everything on my checklist! If I called or texted, she responded right away. She sent photos. She took good care of my dog and my house too!”
“Sarah did a fantastic job with taking care of our girl. Our 10 year old laborer rarely eats when we travel, but with Sarah she did eat. Our girl was so relaxed and happy when we arrived home. You could hardly tell that Sarah had been in the house it was so clean.”

“Sara did a wonderful job with watching our pups while we were gone. They were calm and not anxious when we returned. They were well loved. The house looked great when we returned too! We highly recommend Sara!”

“Ashley did a first-time 5 night housesit for my almost 10 year old lab mix, and she did a great job. She followed my directions and gave me daily updates and photos. She was very responsive through the app. I felt confident my dog was well-cared for and would use her again.”

“Tabitha is WONDERFUL! My dog is very emotionally needy (has anxiety), and I needed a sitter very last minute. Tabitha came to the rescue and was so attentive with Franny and did such a good job with her! I really trust her and i can’t wait to use her again 🙂”

About: I’ve had dogs all my life and currently my parents will leave their dogs in my care when they go out of town. I also used to watch my friend’s dogs in college whenever they needed to go home! One of my favorite things to do in college was to walk the dogs at the humane society and we even had an event to walk dogs with other people in greek life on campus! I am very flexible when it comes to routine, i would structure my schedule around what you would prefer! I am able to do weekdays and weekends! I walk my dogs in the early morning but I would able to adjust based on your personal schedule! Pets are a part of a family! I would take the best care i could to make sure they are happy and healthy throughout the time they are in my care!
“Samantha stayed in our home with our two girls. She updated me everyday and was a very respectful house guest! Everything was tidy and just where we had left it. The girls were happy and I doubt they missed us at all 😂. I would definitely recommend Sam!”

“Jeanette is amazing. She cared for our dog, took him for long walks, took him with her so he had companionship during the day, and stayed with him at the house. Highly recommended!”

“Olivia was great. Very flexible with my dogs schedule and patient with her since she is a rescue and needs lots of time and slow pace to get used to people. Olivia made me feel comfortable during my time away and allowed me to relax and come home to a clean house and a happy dog!”

“Sylvia stayed at our home with our dog when we left town for a few days. She was wonderful with Orion and took such good care of our home. We are thankful for her!”

About: I have treated small cuts, and administered insulin to cats and dogs. I have cleaned many ears and eyes for both species in my past. I work at a special school beginning at 7:30 am and am finished with my work day at 3:30. I have off on major school holidays. I have a fenced in backyard and my daughter and I enjoy taking our boys on walks daily if weather permits. Our boys love our couch, and always pick the best seat in the house.
“Keira was great with our old pup Toby while we were out of town. She was knowledgeable about care and Toby was in great hands. She gave updates and photos throughout the stay.”

“Keira has always taken excellent care of our two kitties, and after we lost one of them earlier this year, this is the first time we’ve asked her to house sit and stay over (we worry our one will now get lonely) and per usual she was amazing and took amazing care of our boy.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Columbia
Came home to a tidy house and two very cuddly pets. Our dog is pretty high needs in terms of attention, and our cat is terrified of new people. We got plenty of pics and updates over the 10 days we were out, and by the end of their time together the cat was actually coming out to spend time with her and the dog, which normally would take him months of meeting a person. Cannot recommend enough, and would absolutely book again.

Absolutely great! My dogs are very scared when left alone over the 4th of July and they felt very secure with her there. Our cat is also a very needy boy who constantly demands whatever he wants and she handled it perfectly. She also gave a ton of pictures and gave a lot of updates. I would definitely book again!

Jessica sat with my girl Lilly for 6 days and did a stellar job. She is exceedingly professional but also compassionate and kind. She sent me numerous photos of Lilly to keep me posted and Lilly looked alert and happy in every one. This was only the second time I've had a dog sitter and I am still anxious about the process. But Lilly is 13 (albeit with lots of puppy energy) and I just don't want to leave her in a kennel cage anymore. I was not worried for one minute while away. And when I returned, I was happy to see her in good health and spirit and thee house exactly as I left it. I recommend Jessica without reservation.

You can not ask for a more reliable, calm, caring dog sitter. She watched 3 of my pack which includes two large dogs (a beautiful husky and sweet pittie), and they were in great hands. My pittie, Tuxedo, had epilepsy so I do not choose or recommend sitters lightly. She is exceptional. She was timely and attentive. She gave them all walks and TLC and gave my Tux his meds. Everything was on perfect order when we returned. I definitely recommend her.

I’ve used Kayla more than once and always have a great experience. She took excellent care of my two dogs and cat for two weeks, sent daily photo updates, and left our home clean—even washing the sheets before she left. She’s also very flexible and easy to work with. Highly recommend!

Yolanda and Jayah house sat and watched my 2 dogs and 2 cats for 4 nights while my husband and I went on our babymoon. My pets are a little high maintenance (dogs are rambunctious and cats need meds) so it can be hard to find reliable care for that amount of time. Yolanda was a thorough communicator throughout our trip, and eliminated any anxiety I may have had about leaving my fur babies behind. Jayah clearly has a special gift with animals, and made fast friends with all of them. The house looked just as I left it, and all instructions were followed. I hope to hire this dynamic duo again the next time we are out of town, and highly recommend them to anyone else needing overnight care.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Columbia walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Columbia maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Columbia choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
