I’ve had two dogs, and both taught me a lot. My first, Ed, was an 80-pound American Foxhound rescued as a suspected abandoned hunting dog who had never lived indoors. Together we worked through house training, leash manners (no more yanking), a fear of stairs (which involved carrying him up three flights until he stopped being scared), and a distaste for rain. His name was not what he was rescued with, but he was clearly always an Ed. With my second dog, Kovu, I spent a lot of time on socialization with other dogs and on keeping him calm and quiet when left alone. Because of that, I’m patient with nervous, rigid, big dogs, and dogs still learning the rules. I know that consistency and a calm presence go a long way. All Creatures Welcome!
