“We can't say enough wonderful things about Miranda and the exceptional care she provided for both our home and our senior cat. From the very start, her professionalism, warmth, and dedication were apparent. Miranda kept us updated with regular messages and adorable photos, giving us total peace of mind while we were away. Beyond her attentive care, she left our home in immaculate condition. We wholeheartedly recommend Miranda to anyone looking for a trustworthy, thoughtful, and reliable house and pet sitter. She exceeded all expectations, and we will absolutely be reaching out to her for future stays!”

“Patrick as always was amazing!!! He has gotten my super wary and timid cat to come out of her shell, which has never happened with anyone else! I was able to have such a worry free vacation knowing my cats were in his hands, he is so attentive towards them and is such a great communicator! The cats can’t wait for the next visit!”

“Stephanie is my absolute favorite sitter that I've found through this site. She is dependable, loves our pups, and sends lots of pics. I can always count on her to give our pups the love and attention they need.”
“Gianna was wonderful! Our pup and kitties were well loved and excellently taken care of while we were away. Our pup even needed an urgent vet visit and Gianna took care of everything! Such a relief to know that she was there.”

“Kyla is great with our pups! She’s reliable and stays at our home with our pups while we’re gone. Kyla is great at communicating and we’ll continue to use her to care for our pups!”

“Faith did a great job she showed up on time and followed my instructions perfectly. Ozzie is a little nervous in his old age and she made sure to spend time with him and keep a close eye on him to keep him settled. I would use Faith again for sure.”

“Ellen did incredible. It’s our first vacation in years and she kept us up to date on everything that was occurring. The pups were perfectly happy. Highly recommended.”

“Sara did a fantastic job with my pup! This was the first time that we have left Daisy alone with a dog sitter and they seemed to get along wonderfully. Sara was punctual when she came over to meet Daisy. She was also incredibly flexible and willing to help when our schedule needed to be adjusted. If you are nervous about leaving your pup with a dog sitter, Sara is your girl! She sent daily updates and let me know that if I wanted more or less contact from her/ updates during the stay, she was more than willing to comply. I felt very at ease during the entire stay!”
“Alexa was amazing with my fur babies. Very communicative and plenty of pics sent of my well cared for pets! Came home to very happy babies. Will definitely book again and recommend 100%”

“Kendall did a great job caring for my dogs. They loved her!! She took them on adventures and treated them to pup cups at Starbucks! Yes, my dogs are a little bougie 😊. I highly recommend Kendall to care for your pet(s).”

“Josh took care of our dogs while we were gone for a long weekend. Unfortunately one of our dogs became ill the night before we were due back. Josh did an excellent job informing us of her symptoms so we could figure out best plan for her. He cared for her and kept us up to date on how she was doing until we could get a family member to come take her to the vet. We absolutely trust Josh to take care of our dogs!”

“Allison always goes above and beyond to take care of the dog while we are away. I feel like I don’t have to worry at all. She’s great at communicating and sending updates and the cutest pics too! I highly recommend Allison for dog sitting and dog walking.”

“Jason did a wonderful job house sitting for us over Thanksgiving! It was our first time ever using Rover and we were very impressed with how prompt Jason was with communication both during the booking process and while we were away. We will definitely be using Jason for future trips!”

About: I’ve owned dogs my whole life and have taken care of all different kinds of dogs. My grandfather trained police dogs so I am used to taking care of all style of dogs. I’m currently on working on the side so I have a very free schedule to offer services at all times. I’m home most of the day and I can choose my own schedule to work around providing pet care. My wife and I live in a gated community that is very dog friendly. There is a dog park in the middle of the complex. We have a very friendly corgi for your fur babies to play with. We allow dogs on the furniture and to sleep wherever they want to.
“Emily watched our 4 babies: 2 dogs and 2 cats for 4 days while we went on vacation. She did everything we asked, and sent us so many updates and photos. We had never left them before, (and our oldest is almost 7). So to say I was anxious, is a huge understatement. She even got our extremely antisocial cat to interact with her, she’s the best.”

“Heather was brave enough to house sit our cane corso for us, knowing he was going to be scared of her and not likely to warm up to her. She was very patient with him. She said he did finally come take a treat from her but immediately ran away. This was probably the best experience we’ve had with him as he was able to go in and out on his, and he ate every meal after she would leave. We’re very grateful for her!”

The median cost per night for house sitting in Chapel Hill is $46
Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Chapel Hill
I cannot recommend Daniel and Jada enough! They took really great care of our home and our dog while we were away. They were incredibly communicative and sent lots of pictures, videos and updates which gave us so much peace of mind. We will absolutely be using them in the future!

Meagan was really great! She came and stayed in our home with our pups. We could not have asked for better care. She is very responsive, kind, compassionate and experienced in caring for animals. The day before our trip to Europe one of our pups ended up at the emergency vet with gastroenteritis, she was having uncontrollable diarrhea. This required a modified diet, extra care and medication for the week that we would be gone. I called Meagan and explained the situation, she did not skip a beat! She was very reassuring that she would take great care of our Zoey, I felt very confident and relieved that she would give the best care, and she absolutely did!! We will for sure reach out to Meagan again in the future. We highly recommend Megan.

Makayla always goes above and beyond. She’s now watching our second senior rescue pup and has bonded with him just like our last one. We trust her with his life! It’s worth every penny being out of town knowing we don’t have to worry about our dog at home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Chapel Hill walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Chapel Hill maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Chapel Hill choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
