Chicago Dog Owners Ranked Most Indulgent in the Country

Are dog owners in Chicago more indulgent and willing to spend the big bucks on their dogs than pet parents in other cities? The data points to yes, according to a recent Rover.com survey of more than 5,000 dog owners. 

Rover’s extensive dog owner database and knowledge of pet parent preferences helped identify five top personality traits: active, indulgent, obsessed, sociable, and eco-friendly. Dog owners were then surveyed to find out which personality traits reign supreme in 10 major U.S. cities, including Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Portland, and San Francisco.

The National Ranking

Five cities rose to the top of our ranking: Denver, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, and Los Angeles. Denver tops the list of most active dog owners, Chicago has the most indulgent dog owners, San Francisco pet parents allege to be the most obsessed with their dogs, Boston dog owners are the most sociable around, and in Los Angeles dog owners are all about that eco-friendly mindset.

Chicago's Most Common Dog Owner Personality Traits

Out of the five most common pet owner personality traits, Chicago ranked #1 for most indulgent and willing to spend top dollar on their dogs. Dog grooming habits are one example of this indulgence: 86% of dog owners in Chicago are likely to get their dog professionally groomed. Nearly half of these pet parents (47%) also claim they’re likely to get their dogs a mani, pedi, and massage. Spa day anyone?

Dog owners in Chicago are also pretty obsessed with their pups. Over half (55%) claim they’re likely to choose their vacation based on whether or not they can bring their dog along, and 83% miss their dog as soon as they leave the house.
