San Francisco Dog Owners Ranked Most Active in the Country

Are dog owners in San Francisco more obsessed with their dogs than pet parents in other cities? The data points to yes, according to a recent Rover.com survey of more than 5,000 dog owners. 

Rover’s extensive dog owner database and knowledge of pet parent preferences helped identify five top personality traits: active, indulgent, obsessed, sociable, and eco-friendly. Dog owners were then surveyed to find out which personality traits reign supreme in 10 major U.S. cities, including Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Portland, and San Francisco.

National Ranking

Five cities rose to the top of our ranking: Denver, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, and Los Angeles. Denver tops the list of most active dog owners, Chicago has the most indulgent dog owners, San Francisco pet parents allege to be the most obsessed with their dogs, Boston dog owners are the most sociable around, and in Los Angeles dog owners are all about that eco-friendly mindset.

San Francisco's Most Common Dog Owner Personality Traits

Out of the five most common pet owner personality traits, people in San Francisco stood out as most obsessed. In fact, this city ranked #1 in the category. You won’t see these dog owners without their dogs—they’re known for taking their furry BFFs pretty much everywhere they go. 

The majority (77%) of dog owners in San Francisco are likely to let their pup sleep in bed with them and 80% are likely to miss their dog as soon as they leave the house. Out of the 10 cities we surveyed, dog owners in San Francisco are most likely to choose their vacations based on where they can bring their dog along. That’s pretty obsessed if you ask us!
