Abigail was a great sitter for our crew (2 dogs and 6 cats). She took thorough notes at our meet and greet, was super responsive and provided plenty of updates for us while we were away. It was clear that all the pets enjoyed her company and trusted that she was there to care for them. She left the house in great shape as well and even left us an adorable memento from her time caring for our pets. Would definitely want her to sit for us again!

We had a great experience with Lori house sitting our American Bully & Pit mix. Lori asked questions ahead of time, reviewed our instructions, and sent us text and photo updates. We couldn't have asked for anything more. We really appreciated all of her communication.

Carol was great! She was very communicative. This was my first time having house/dog sittter. She was very self-sufficient and made me feel good about the process. We came home to a happy dog and a clean house. That is all I asked for. Thanks Carol!

Jaclyn was amazing! She gave us updates throughout the weekend and left the house even better than we left it. Loki warmed up to her and she understood the process for getting a Shiba to accept you into their pack. I would absolutely recommend Jaclyn to anyone!

Bree was fantastic! She is definitely an animal person who connected with our dog immediately. She sent fun pictures that reassured us how happy he and our cat were and also let us know she was remembering his meds and walks. She left out place as clean or cleaner than when we left. She was very open to communication. We would recommend her to any and all!

All I can say is that she is AMAZING!! My Roofus has serious separation issues and that is why we decided to try an at home sitter because it may help his anxiety. Well roofus was the happiest puppy when we got home with no signs of distress. She went above and beyond spoiling all 3 of our babies. She did more for them then we do normally and that makes her services top notch. My home seems cleaner than we left and she even checked our mail and other things around the house. She will definitely have our trust and future business! Can’t thank her enough for the care and love she gave our babies!!

Having Julie G house sit and care for my 85 lb. hound Dave was dreamlike. She seemed to accept and appreciate Dave and his coonhound ways seamlessly from the jump. She took copious notes about Da daily needs and expectations at the meet & greet, asked intelligent questions about his routine and I was able to leave town completely confident Dave was in good loving hands. She sent me daily pics and reports while I was away, and left Dave mellower and the house cleaner than it was when I left. A terrific experience from my perspective Can't recommend Julie G strongly enough as a house and hound sitter.

Emily did a wonderful job with our special needs cat, Dakota. Dakota is paralyzed in the back after having been hit by a car years ago. He gets around ok dragging his back legs but he has to have his bladder expressed three times a day. Emily had experience doing this in the past (I think in some kind of vet assistant capacity or something like that) and successfully managed Dakota when we went out of town for a few days. Dakota stayed at Emily's house with her cats and it all worked out fine. Emily's house is so cat friendly with cat climbing things all around and Emily even mentioned that down the road she might have cat grass (that our cat loves to eat) since she grows it herself. We were also happy that Emily was fine with us leaving all Dakota's regular collection of favorite things: his little cat house, cat bed, and even the ramp we made for him to climb up on couches. It was so nice for us to think of Dakota in a friendly home rather than in a cage at the vet. We loved how Emily was great about communicating both in terms of photos showing Dakota was doing well and also asking intelligent questions to make sure the expressing of the bladder was going well. When we picked Dakota up, he was in fine shape and clearly had been well-taken-care of. We'll definitely use Emily again!

6 stars would best describe Alexis!! She is loving, attentive, caring and flexible. She takes her work seriously, she is a PRO! Book her if you can. Our pups didn’t skip a beat while we had her stay 4 overnights at our house with Willie and Daisy. Both pups are beasts (Pitties) and can wreak havoc while playing. Alexis had them sitting, fetching, learning to swim in the pool and more. Rest easy about your beloved animals when you book Alexis!!

About: Have owned dogs for over 20 years, pet sit for friends, family, and neighbors. I am over cautious and protective when it comes to animals, I'm also active so love walking dogs, throwing a ball for them, or taking them to our local lake for a swim. I have tons of patience for shy dogs, I have dealt with rescue dogs and know when to get close or not to an animal. I have never had an incident where I have had a dog become aggressive with me. I have taken my own dog to obedience school a few times and learned a few key trips for working with difficult dogs or puppies. I have taken care of puppies within the past three years and am comfortable with the extra care they require. I have a solid connection with our local vet and emergency animal hospital and am able to handle dogs who need shots or medications administered. I work from home and have several pets already needing care. Bathroom breaks, walks, ball throwing, catnip time, all of it already happens in my home. We have several pet fences within our home and a puppy proof first floor. If a pet is okay of leash then we walk them around our 4 acres throwing a ball or whatever the pet likes. If a pet is not okay off leash, then we just walk them on a leash on our land every 1.5 or 2 hours or as needed. Water bowls are everywhere, no chemicals are on site within reach of curious puppies, and no cars move very quickly on our driveway and everyone who does arrive at our home knows we have several pets and need to slow down. We have owned dogs for over 25 years and have never had any of our pets get injured.

About: I have been walking and caring for my own personal animals - 2 dogs, cat, bird, hamsters since I was 5 years old. I also have been dog sitting and walking for numerous neighbors and friends in the area. I work during the day a full-time job. I am available early in the morning and after 4:00pm during the week. I am available on the weekends anytime of the day. I have a fenced in backyard that my 4 year old Brittany Spaniel, Maggie loves to run around and play ball. It is completely fenced in so she can't get out. I love to be outside playing with my dog and bring her on 3+ walks a day around town and at the local park.

About: I have been the proud dog dad of Franklin, a rescue 15 year old terrier mix who suffers from separation anxiety, for over 10 years. More recently, I have cared for him through eye removal surgery as well as terminal joint and heart issues. As a result, I have experience giving oral, ocular and topical medications. I have this experience with other dogs as well, as I am always quick to volunteer for any opportunity to walk or babysit a friend or families dog - even going so far as to visit dogs rather than people at family weddings. I am a recovering lawyer who wants to devote 100% of my time to your dog! Please check my schedule or reach out. Thanks, and tell your dog I said hi! First and foremost, I care for animals by showing them love and respect. When it comes to caring for your pet, I will conscientiously follow all instructions you provide and never put your pet in any danger. I am 100% focused on your dog when they're in my care, so I don't give them an opportunity to do anything unsafe!

About: While working as a travel nurse, I had the privilege of staying in many homes with pets of all personalities and needs, giving me experience adapting to different routines and environments. I bring a calm, grounded, and intuitive presence that helps animals feel safe and at ease. I'm naturally nurturing (a mama to my own two kitties), attentive to the little details, and I truly enjoy building trust with every animal. My goal is for your pet to feel loved, comfortable, and well cared for while you're away, and for you to have complete peace of mind. I genuinely enjoy starting and ending my day with walks, playtime, feeding, and quality time with animals. My schedule is flexible, allowing me to provide dependable care while giving pets the attention, exercise, and companionship they deserve. I love being outdoors, so daily walks are something I truly look forward to, and I always make time for cuddles, enrichment, and keeping pets comfortable in their own routine. My parents have an elderly cockapoo who has taught me the importance of patience, gentle care, and paying attention to the little changes that come with aging. My husband and I also have two cats, so I'm familiar with their daily routines, from feeding and litter box care to playtime, affection, and respecting each cat's unique personality. I understand that every pet has different needs, and I strive to make them feel safe, comfortable, and loved every day.

FAQs for House Sitting - Ashfield

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of August 2026, there are 477 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Ashfield. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Ashfield walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Ashfield maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Ashfield choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Ashfield. On Rover:

  • 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 95% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
