“Maria spent 2 nights with our pup at our home. She sent numerous pictures of their walks and hangouts by the pool. Maria was in constant contact with us regarding any questions/concerns about the house or Cash. My husband and I were happy when we returned to see that our pup looked happy and well-maintained and same with our home! We feel relieved knowing that our dog/home is in good hands with Maria.”

“Alexis was great with Kaya! We got lots of updates including videos and photos, and we could tell Kaya was well taken care of. She seemed very happy while Alexis was staying with her!”

“We would 1000% recommend Katie. Katie was kind patient with one of our dogs that takes a little while to warm up to new people, even making a couple trips out to take her on walks before we left. During our time away, a new medical issue came up for our elderly dog. Katie was amazing at communicating with us, taking her to the vet for us, helping 3 way call with the vet while she was there and keeping a watchful eye on her until we could return home. We found our house exactly how we left it, everything tidy and clean. We hands-down will be using Katie again knowing that our dogs will be well loved and taken care of while we’re away”

“Taryn is an incredible human. It’s so nice to be able to leave town and feel completely comfortable leaving your fur babies in such amazing care. She’s punctual, reliable, has fantastic communication and just goes above and beyond treating your pets like her own. One of a kind! ♥️”

“Karen is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! She took care of our cats while we were away for about 2 weeks. Our cats are elderly and are not the easiest to deal with, Karen was attentive to their special needs and just went out of her way to ensure they were comfortable and well taken care of. I would highly recommend her for your pet care needs. We travel often and will use her again and again”

“Tabbie M. was on time, communicative, and professional. She worked well with sweety and sent emails, and pictures to update me. Tabbie M. is very nice and kind as well. I will definitely book her again.”

About: Growing up with and caring for my own dog has taught me how important patience, consistency, and attention are when it comes to pets. I’m very attentive to a dog’s behavior, energy levels, and comfort, and I always make sure they feel safe, cared for, and loved. I also have experience with basic grooming, keeping routines consistent, and giving pets calm, gentle care based on their individual needs and personality. I'm currently looking fo a Pet care fits well into my daily and weekly routine because I’m someone who enjoys staying active, organized, and consistent. While I’m currently looking for a part-time summer job, pet sitting and care is something that also works well with my schedule long-term because it gives me flexibility once I start school again. I’m able to balance responsibilities well, and I enjoy spending time with animals as part of my routine rather than seeing it as just work. job for the summer. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I focus on keeping their routine as normal and comfortable as possible. I make sure they are fed on schedule, have fresh water, get plenty of attention, playtime, walks if needed, and a clean environment. I’m very attentive to a pet’s behavior and comfort level, and I always try to create a calm, safe, and loving atmosphere while respecting the owner’s instructions and home. I also make sure to give updates so owners feel reassured while they’re away.
“Dominique was friendly and a great sitter for my girl Millie! I was only gone for a couple days but she still sent updates throughout the weekend, letting me know what they got up to together and how Millie was doing with her meals and potty time. I appreciated her communication and flexibility as she balanced Millie’s routine with her own dog’s needs. Thank you Dominique!”

“We truly appreciate David’s care of our pup and home while we were away. He followed instructions to a T and was proactive with communication. We loved the routine updates and pictures, especially seeing that Bailey was getting his walks when weather allowed.”

About: I've had dogs my whole life including senior dogs and large dogs. I have experience in drop-in sitting for several days at a time. I've taken care of three small elderly dogs at once, including one that was completely blind and hard of hearing. I'm comfortable walking and bathing larger dogs, as I myself have had a dog over 100 pounds. I do not have professional experience, meaning I've never been paid to dog-sit, but I have been sitting for neighbors and friends for several years. I am a full time university student working part time on my campus! All my classes are scheduled in the morning Monday-Thursday so I’m available after 3 then. Friday-Sunday I can be there for your pets anytime! I do not currently sit in my home, but I do have harnesses and leashes available if you do not already have one. We could discuss whether the leashes and harnesses I own are a good fit for your furry friend! :)
About: I grew up in a multi pet home and learned to walk, train and groom pets from a young age. I cared for the last family dog through her medically tedious senior years. Through college I pet sat and walked for friends and family. For 2 years I worked for a veterinary clinic, although my job was marketing I often was asked to assist with holding and monitoring patients. When I became a pet owner I adopted puppies raising them through potty and crate training. I am proud to say they continue to be healthy and happy. Now we foster and pet sit dogs of all ages and sizes because of the dog friendly environment we’ve created at home. My success in pet lies with gaining the pets trust. I approach them slowly and go at their pace, sitting and waiting on the ground if necessary. I am pet sitting and walking full time so I have plenty of time to dedicate to my clients! Dogs are typically walked and out between 7am and 9pm. I have a fully fenced yard with ample room for running and playing. There are four resident dogs who are friendly and used to guests. We can crate your pup or have them sleep in a bed or in bed with me. Water is available at all times through a 2 gallon water dispenser.
“Jante was on time, caring and most importantly—could handle my leash aggressive big boy with ease. The animals enjoyed him and we enjoyed our vacation knowing they were well taken care of. Will definitely rebook!”

“Alexa was a very thoughtful, thorough, and kind sitter. She followed all the house rules and Nala rules. She left our home better than when we came back. We will definitely hire her again.”

“Arie is amazing!! This was my first booking with her and she was so great about communicating and sending updates throughout the day, letting me know how Millie was doing eating and stuff, and being flexible fitting visits in with her own dog’s routine and her work schedule. I appreciated having someone so attentive, and I cannot recommend Arie enough!”

“Haley was very professional and attentive with my dog Teddy. She made sure to send multiple updates daily, especially with him dealing with an ear infection. She is well versed when it comes to administration of treatment as well. Teddy was in good hands the entire time which allowed to me enjoy my vacation. She even took the time to clean the apartment. When I arrived, the place was spotless and Teddy was a happy boy. I would definitely book again if possible. We had a very positive experience.”

Our experience with Ximena was great! She was flexible with the start time and even came by beforehand to meet our pets, which gave us extra peace of mind. She stayed at our home for several days while we were out of the country and was fantastic throughout. During the stay, she communicated quickly and regularly, sending us photos so we always felt comfortable knowing our pets were in good hands. When we returned, the house was clean, our pets were very happy, and she kept them on the exact feeding schedule we had trained them on. We will definitely be booking her again—highly recommend, and you shouldn’t hesitate to book with her either. Thanks again, Ximena!

Ximena was great! When we met she was taking notes the whole time and was eager to jump in and help Maggie. The day of the sitting Xiema was very timely and so happy to be there watching Maggie. She adhered to all of the directions we gave her and was an all-star sitter. We’ve already scheduled her to watch Maggie again!!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Whiting walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Whiting maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Whiting choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Whiting. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
