About: Throughout my 18 years, I had 5 dogs all Chihuahuas. They were definetly harder to take care of and train. My recent dog passed away 2 years ago due to skin cancer. I wasn't sure what to make of it. I knew he wasn't going to make it but I still continued to attempted to feed him, clean his sore on his nose and get him diapers to use the bathroom in. When he left, I had a void as if I was missing something. I began dog sitting for a close friend in the beginning of 2025, I realized that I enjoyed being surrounded by animals to comfort me. It makes me feel like I have a friend again. I treated them like they were my own. I followed the schedules and instructions that were given to me and tried to make sure that I was doing everything correctly. I asked questions before and during the pet care to make sure the pet felt safe as if there parents were taking care of them. In the summer, I will be enrolled in a Nursing Assistant course, however, it will only be for 4-5 hours 2 times every week. I am a college student so I will try to be getting as much money as I can to help me achieve my future goals and career. However, I will mostly be free throughout the afternoon and night to achieve the needs of my employer. In my clients home, I will try my best to offer what I can in cases of safety in the environment. If the client doesn't want their cat to be wondering outside then I will try my best to keep them inside. While walking the dog, I will try my best to be patient until they pee or poop. I will try to follow what's best on the schedule for the clients pets.
“Madelyn was easy going and sent many pictures. My dogs loved her as my little dog Doodle has to be anywhere you are. She stated that he became her little buddy! She also kept my house very neat and clean while she stayed here as well.”

“Lindsey was amazing! She took wonderful care our pup and even though this was our first time using Lindsey as a sitter, we knew right away that he was in great hands while we were away. About: WE'VE MOVED! Same great care, new location featuring a larger home and more land to play :) We are an active family with 3 children (and one on the way) who love to play outside, take long walks, and even run with our dog. Animals are well-loved in our home and welcome on the furniture. I would love to include your pet in any exercise needs as well! We are available for walking pets before 8 am and after 4:30 p.m. every day. I can also do mid-day drop-ins if located in the Wausau area (best if northeast side of Wausau as I work in the Industrial park or near Merrill since my husband works there). We have a 2000 sq foot house, so there is plenty of room for more pets to house overnight. My kids absolutely love playing ball and walking the dog, too! We have an energetic black lab who loves to play. I believe in being active and playing as much as possible with my family (but am totally ok watching dogs who love to nap :) ).

“Kirsten was amazing with my 2 sweet pups! She sent me lots of pictures and videos which was great because I rarely leave them for long periods of time. She kept me well informed the whole time on how things were going. Kirsten was also very sweet and professional at the meet and greet, so I felt comfortable with her as did my pups. She is definitely worth booking with! I would book with her again in a heartbeat!”

About: I come from a dog family, where we are on our 3rd dog. I love going to dog parks to let dogs run around, taking dogs for extended walks when needed, and even running alongside when training. I understand the amount of care and devotion that a pet needs, and I strive to strengthen that sense of attention with clients whether doing check-ins, boarding, or regular pet-care. I would like to begin dog-sitting in a professional manner. I currently dog sit for family and family friends in the mornings and early afternoons. I am very flexible and can accommodate last-minute requests, making scheduling with me very simple. I would like to incorporate dog sitting more into my schedule to keep myself active and to explore my community more since I recently relocated to Weston. When caring for pets, I love to hold myself and the pet to a schedule to reinforce a sense of understanding and consistency with myself and the pet-owner. I tend to have more alert care when in a clients home/pet since it is not my own, but care for everything like it would be my own.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Wausau
Lara is so good to our Tora every time she house sits with her when we are gone. Very reliable and incredibly generous with her time she spends with Tora playing and giving her rubs and love. Lara is a very great sitter and we will hire her every-time we need a sitter.

Words cannot describe how grateful I am for Dorothy. I am new to this area and was in a bind. I couldn’t find anyone to watch my little girl. Dorothy understood my situation changed her plans and came to my rescue. Fiona loves Dorothy. She’s super sweet attentive Carese and you could see the love she has for dogs. This is my first time using Rover and I was hesitant, but my experience with Dorothy made a huge difference.. I highly recommend her services.

Watched all four of our dogs over night, they all loved her. Showed up on time. Was very detailed oriented, paid attention to all our dog’s needs. And sent photos of our dogs throughout the day. She was also available to text for check ins. Would have her watch our dogs again, we were able to leave town with peace of mind that our dogs were well cared for.

FAQs for House Sitting - Wausau
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Wausau on Rover is $52.17 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 89 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Wausau. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Wausau walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Wausau maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Wausau choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
