About: I've lived with animals my entire life. Growing up, we had five dogs, four cats, bunnies and guinea pigs, snakes and lizards, fish, and chickens. Currently, while living at home in the summers, we have snakes, lizards, spiders, a cat, and three dogs, one of which is mine. My dog Winston is a service dog in training that my mom and I are owner-training. While I'm in no way a professional trainer, I can help with teaching or maintaining the basics with any dog. I'm currently home for the summer from school and waiting on an application for a part-time job. I am free most of the day right now, as I haven't started working yet. So, I can come over and take care of any pet's needs most any time. I can take care of your animals' needs any time, whether it's taking them on a walk, letting them outside, feeding, cleaning up, or playing with them. My dogs at home are crate trained, so if your dog also stays in a crate at certain points of the day or night, I can easily crate them.

“Paul was very tuned into Meli’s needs and spent a lot of time playing with her as she has an abundant amount of energy. He provided a lot of photos and videos, which I greatly appreciated and was very flexible with helping us out last minute. Thank you Paul!!”

“Tara was amazing! I highly recommend her services. This is the first trip we were able to relax because we knew the dogs were in great hands. I loved the frequent updates and photos.”

“Sara recently stayed the night with my two dogs. My night away was made more relaxing, knowing that they were in great hands. Sara is conscientious, great with dogs, and a wonderful person.”

“Thank you so much for watching Bowey! We truly appreciate you taking such good care of him! Also it was super helpful when our trip got extended and you were able to watch him a few extra days! We will definitely be in touch for future stays!”

“Cooper is a kind, reliable pet sitter. I felt completely comfortable having him spend time with my dogs and stay in my home. I’d definitely work with him again and would encourage you to consider him for your needs as well.”

“Joey is a fantastic animal sitter. She stayed with our 5 pets over a week and managed to tire out our Aussie Shepherd! Great communicator, honest & trustworthy! Will invite her into our home to watch our furry family members in the future.”

“Amber is fantastic! Very reliable, sends photos of our fur babies and updates throughout her stay. She is a great house sitter and leaves our home as it was when we left. I highly recommend Amber if you are in need of a caring, considerate, and excellent communicator to watch your dogs. 🐕 🐾🩵”

About: I have spent years caring for the dogs of friends and family, and I’ve realized there is nothing I enjoy more. Since my current apartment doesn't allow pets, I have a "dog-sized hole" in my life that I’d love to fill by caring for yours! Being self-employed gives me a very flexible schedule, allowing me to prioritize your dog’s routine—whether they need a long midday trek or a dedicated house sitter to keep them company while you’re away. As a self-employed professional, my schedule is very flexible, allowing me to easily integrate pet care into my daily routine. Since I work from home and cannot have dogs in my own apartment, I treat my walks and house-sitting bookings as my primary motivation to get outside for walks. My priority is maintaining your dog's familiar routine to keep them stress-free. I provide dedicated companionship, and because I am self-employed, I can often bring my work with me to ensure your pet isn't left alone for long periods.
“We felt very comfortable leaving our dogs in Wendy’s care. She was super accommodating for our last minute request . Left the house in great shape and left a nice hand written note . Dogs were well cared for ! Would definitely use Wendy again .”

“Rayanna was absolutely wonderful! She house sat our puppy over New Year’s eve and was so kind and very respectful of our home. Our girl is still in the midst of training, and requires both close attention and lots of potty breaks and Rayanna handled everything so wonderfully! She even sent us picture updates :) Highly, highly recommend and hope to book with her again in the future.”

About: I’ve been looking after fluffy frens of all shapes and sizes from a young age. My time doing a full house/dog sitting gig was for my grandparents and their French bulldog, Sugar (miss you, Sugs!). Since then I have been the go-to for my friends and family for taking care of their for legged family. I make sure your fury family gets the love and care they need, whether you just have one smol dog or a pack of greyhounds. I currently had a stretch of rough health luck, but my ails are your pups gain! I’m currently on the mend, and it’s going well, but between jobs, so my schedule is wide open. I’ll have the time to give your pups the TLC they deserve! Currently unavailable to board pets at my house, but I will make sure to treat all pets in a safe and caring way. I’ll treat them like a newborn baby, because hey, in a way they are!

About: I’ve had dogs and cats my whole life and love them so much that I decided to work at a Dog and Cat daycare and boarding facility. I’ve been working there for 3 years and have worked with all breeds and ages varying from puppies to seniors and love comforting them and making them happy while also making sure their parents know they are in good hands! I’m currently working part-time and my availability is flexible. I’m willing to make adjustments as long as I am notified at least 2-3 weeks in advance. Depending on the typical routine of the pet, I will follow it as close as possible to make them feel as comfortable as I can. I will keep them busy by going on walks or by playing with them, or if they have lower energy I’ll just make sure to give them extra attention.
“My experience in working with Taylor was excellent. Great communicator and most importantly cared for my 10yr lab while out in a work trip. Taylor went above and beyond what was required as she left the house spotless, and washed bedding and bathroom towels before leaving.”

“Faith was amazing!! She was taking care of my 10 yr dog with special needs and loved her while I was on a week long business trip. She treated her with kindness and love!! Thank you Faith!!! I highly recommend her for any pet sitting needs you have!”

“Jenn was so great with my very spoiled Great Pyrenees at her home Christmas weekend. She was so good at communicating and sending pictures the weekend she was with him. I felt she genuinely cared so much about Koda and us too. I will definitely be contacting her again on our next travels. Thanks again Jenn!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Sussex
Jasmine was great to communicate when booking and setting up a meet and greet! She watched our 4 pets - 2 dogs and 2 cats - for a week at our home. She sent us occasional updates while we were away. Everything was in order when we returned, and the pets were all healthy and doing fine! We were glad they were able to stay in our home while we were gone!

Karlie took such great care of our pup while we were away more than 2 weeks on vacation. Her updates & pictures let us know how happy Athena was & she took great care of our house too (even dealing with some water in our basement which hadn’t happened before in 20 yrs in the house). We are so thankful to have had her & would totally recommend her!!

Layla was amazing. She took great care of my 3 pups, hung out with them through a terrible storm, and I came home to an immaculate home and 3 happy dogs. Layla kept me updated through the weekend, so I knew my dogs were being well loved and well cared for. I will definitely use her again!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Sussex on Rover is $44.4 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 1,248 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Sussex. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Sussex walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Sussex maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Sussex choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Sussex. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
