“Michael took great care of my dog Mochi and my house. He's friendly and very easy to talk with about dog things and beyond. He graciously accepted my last minute request to house sit, and followed my detailed instructions for Mochi's routine. I'll definitely ask him to house sit for Mochi again.”

“Zeni was great! She took excellent care of Penny while we were out of town. She sent lots of photos and provided daily updates on how everything was going. We will certainly use her again if she is available :)”

“Lena took great care of our pup and home. She’s thoughtful, communicative, and responsible. She went above and beyond to share updates and make sure our pup wasn’t bored while we were away.”

“Emily was absolutely wonderful! So caring to our pup and so thoughtful to us, sending pictures unprompted (such a lovely surprise to get throughout the day!) and really giving him the love we couldn’t while we were gone. I’d highly recommend Emily to anyone needing someone to care for their dog, she was fantastic :)”

About: I am a reliable and caring dog sitter with a genuine love for animals. I started dog sitting when I was 14 and have experience with dogs of all ages For the summer I currently have open availability so I can watch your fur baby at any time. I love going for walks and to the beach so if that is something your dog also loves than they are always welcome to join me. I have a cat who is scared of dogs so I unfortunately can’t care for your babies in my home, however I am fully willing to meet any needs for your fur babies in your home.
“This was my first experience with a dog sitter and I’m so happy that I trusted my instincts when I read her profile, read her reviews, and saw her smiling profile pic. Denise did a wonderful job caring for my pups who have some special needs. She ensured she understood all the special instructions and put my mind at ease. She always checked in, sent photos, and had such a cheerful disposition. I’m so glad I found her. I now feel like I have more freedom because I know I can trust my very precious girls with her.”

About: I've done it all — puppy chaos, senior snuggles, and everything in between. With 20+ years of hands-on experience and dogs I've raised myself, I know what your pet needs. I work a flexible full-time schedule from my home where I can care for your pet and take breaks to walk and play with them. If your pet is more comfortable in their own home, I am available to sit them there as my daytime job is remote. I am tidy and leave every space the same (if not better) than when I entered. Your pet's comfort and safety are my top priority. Having grown up in a home where dogs of all sizes were cherished family members, I understand how to read a pet's needs and create a calm, secure environment. I've personally raised and trained my own dogs from puppyhood through their senior years, so I'm experienced in adapting care routines to each stage of life. In my home, pets are never an afterthought — they're treated with the same patience, attention, and love I'd want for my own family members (human or otherwise). 🧡

“Very sweet and conscientious care for my sometimes ornery shepherd. She managed my pup perfectly on the two walks she took and I found her sincere and charming. I would definitely recommend Danielle and plan to ask her to care for my pup again.”

“Kristina was amazing! One of the best sitters I've dealt with on Rover. She was so communicative and caring, she is fantastic with the pups and they were happy and healthy upon our return. Absolutely loved working with her!”

About: I have been around dogs my whole life. I grew up with a Labrador from the time I was born until I was around 10 years old, and since then I have had two other dogs, including a Great Pyrenees/Golden Retriever mix and a Border Collie mix. Because of this, I have experience with different sizes, breeds, and energy levels, from large dogs that need strong handling to active dogs that need plenty of attention and playtime. I have also dog sat for family and friends before, so I understand how important it is to make sure each dog feels safe, comfortable, and cared for while their owner is away. I will always check in frequently with updates, make sure your dog is fed on schedule, take time to play with them, and give them the attention they need. My schedule is very flexible. I am home for the summer from UCSD and currently shadowing a doctor, but I am able to work my schedule around what is best for dog or cat sitting. I am available on both weekdays and weekends, and I can usually make most times work. I will always communicate clearly if I have something planned on a certain day, and I will make sure we figure out a schedule that works best for you and your pet. Your pet’s safety and comfort will always be my top priority. I will make sure they are cared for, supervised, and given plenty of attention while you are away. I am comfortable playing with pets, throwing tennis balls or toys, taking dogs on walks, letting them outside, and watching them closely while they are out. I will always follow your instructions for feeding, routines, walks, playtime, and any specific needs your pet may have. I understand how important it is to keep pets on their normal schedule, so I will make sure they are fed on time and cared for in a safe, responsible, and loving environment.

“Haley did a great job house sitting for me whilst I was on vacation and looked after our mini Aussie Shepherd. She communicated clearly and sent pictures of our dog having fun. She left the house neat and tidy too. Thanks Haley.”

“Robyn is awesome! She recently stayed overnight with our new puppy, Gypsy. She even came over a few days before to meet Gypsy beforehand to calm our nerves (we were a little bit nervous!). She took pictures, sent text messages, played with Gypsy, and kept careful watch over our little fur baby. Gypsy was so excited and happy when we came home, which indicates that she had a blast. We will definitely be asking Robyn to watch Gypsy again!”

About: I’ve worked in veterinary medicine for 11 years, and previously worked in doggie daycare and boarding for about 5–6 years. Because of that experience, I’m very comfortable handling dogs and cats with different personalities, energy levels, and needs. I’m also familiar with recognizing signs of stress or illness, and making sure pets stay safe and comfortable while their owners are away. What really sets me apart is that I treat every pet like they’re my own — making sure they get plenty of attention, patience, and care. Whether that means long walks, playtime, or just keeping them company and giving lots of pets, I always try to make sure they feel happy and secure! I work full time at a veterinary hospital & My current schedule is Wednesday -Saturday 6:30a-5p. I’m available Full time Sundays-Tuesdays, and available after my shifts Wed-Sat after 5pm. When caring for pets in a client’s home, safety and comfort are my top priorities. I follow each pet’s routine closely, including feeding schedules, walks, playtime, and any special care instructions. I make sure doors, gates, and leashes are secure during walks or potty breaks, and I monitor pets for any signs of stress or health concerns. I respect the client’s home while keeping it clean and safe, and I provide regular updates and photos so owners know their pets are happy and well cared for. My goal is to make both pets and owners feel completely at ease while I’m there!

“Melia is the most incredible dog and house sitter I have ever worked with. Our dog is extremely difficult and terrified of people. Melia’s manner was so gentle that our dog took to her immediately. She clearly has true empathy for animals and deep understanding of how to care for them. I won’t go into the story here, but she essentially saved our dog’s life while we were out of town. My gratitude for Melia is boundless after this incident. Additionally, the house was spotless when we arrived home. Melia truly goes above and beyond all expectautons!”

Lindsey was hands down the best sitter I’ve ever had!! I didn’t think it was possible to walk a dog so much but I swear Lindsey walked Loona like 6 times a day LOL! You can tell she is so passionate about animals. My cat LOVED her. I will be booking Lindsey again soon she is the best!!! Thank you Lindsey!!

Amanda kept me updated on Kelly’s daily routine, including her walks, feeding schedule, and relaxation time. She also sent photos of Kelly throughout her stay, which gave me peace of mind and reassured me that Kelly was happy and well cared for. I would definitely book with Amanda again and highly recommend her.

We’ve booked Sarah several times and trust her wholeheartedly with our two rescues while we’re out of town. She is so great with them, mindful of our training lifestyle, and respectful of house rules. She communicates frequently and leaves our place spotless upon return. If you want peace of mind while you are out of town, we highly recommend Sarah!

Kim was an amazing dog sitter! She was extremely communicative, sent plenty of updates about my sweet girl and my little Halia looked very happy and well cared for. Kim is very trustworthy and her friendly, warm personality is a pleasure to work with. I am so thankful to have found Kim as my new care taker for my doggie. I don’t trust many dog sitters and she is the best!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Surfside on Rover is $44.4 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 12,967 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Surfside. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Surfside walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Surfside maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Surfside choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
