“Eko and Sarah were great! They responded right away to my request and during their house-sitting they communicated any questions clearly. Got lots of pictures of our pup from their walks and overnight. It brought us such peace of mind that such lovely and attentive people were caring for our dog while we were away! Will definitely book with them again!”

“Fiorella took the absolute best care of our two boys. They are both high energy dogs and she very much understood their needs and met them wonderfully. Extra bonus was that our house was in amazing shape when we got home. Thank you so much!”

“Edith took such good, thoughtful care of our older, deaf cat. He got his medicine, his treats, and his cuddles. We will 💯% contact Edith the next time we need a house and cat sitter. She's the best!”
“Haleigh was amazing! She was very attentive and caring. We felt relaxed on vacation knowing our dog was being lovingly looked after. Upon our return, our home was clean and everything was as we left it. I wouldn’t hesitate using Haleigh again!”

“Nhi was great! She took excellent care of our three babies, sending photos both in the morning and evening to let us know how they were doing. Our shy boy even came out and said hi to her at some point, so I think they felt pretty comfortable with her :) We would absolutely book with Nhi again!”

About: I have been surrounded by animals my entire life, growing up with two dogs, two cats, and even turtles and birds. Throughout high school, I cared for my neighbors' dogs and cats and regularly looked after my extended families pets while they were away, this gave me years of hands on experience with animals of all kinds. I have experience with fostering animals so I have taken care of blind dogs, dogs with diabetes and other disabilities that I am familiar with. I currently work part time at a grocery store, I don’t get a lot of hours so I have a lot of free time! I love animals so I make time for them at all times of the week :). I have a dog park at my apartment that many dogs i have watched loved to run around and play with the other dogs in. My apartment is also very spacious so cats and dogs have plenty of roaming space. I often make sure I get used to any animals environment fast, check out their favorite spots and make sure they’re as comfortable as possible while I am around them!

“We had a wonderful experience with Kayla! She took excellent care of our dog and gave us peace of mind while we were away. We received regular updates, photos, and messages, which gave us confidence that our dog was happy and well cared for. It was clear that she genuinely loves animals and treated our dog like one of her own. We came home to a happy, relaxed pup, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. We would definitely book with her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable and caring pet sitter!”
About: My special skills like cuddling puppies or senior dogs/cats. Plus, walking them to get that extra energy out of them, if your pup is energetic & more. Thank you for your viewing. The way I would treat your dog is like my dog it'll be full of love and specialty of fun. Plus it will learn new tricks in by the time you get home if you have energized dog or a puppy it'll be tired by the time you come home I would care for your dog with utmost care at your home including walks, play time & treat time. And a fun additional bonus: have the biggest cuddles (pet time) with your furry babies!!!!!
About: I've had dogs my entire life and I have taken care of dogs and pets since I was 10. I walked dogs full time during high school. Friends and neighbors have trusted me and continue to ask me to walk/sit their pets. I am available to walk weekdays and weekends. I am a full time student at WPI, however, my schedule is fairly flexible so I can generally work around your dogs' needs. My schedule does change every 7 weeks as WPI is a quarter-based school and I go home to New York during most breaks (major holidays, fall break in October, winter break from December to January, and spring break in March). I house sit, but I do not stay overnight. I have pet sit for dogs of all ages and all sizes, ranging from chihuahuas to mastiffs. I make sure your pets get all of my attention and feel loved when in your home alone while you aren't able to do so yourself.
“Anna-Li is outstanding! She took excellent care of our kitty and our home, and we didn't have to worry about a thing. Anna-Li sent us regular updates and photos so we knew Harper was well cared for. I'm calling Anna-Li first next time we need a sitter!”

“Paulina was a great sitter to our Bella. She was super professional and made sure to ask all the questions she needed to know in order to take care of our puppy. Correspondence was great throughout the night, she sent us updates with pictures which was greatly appreciated. Thank you Paulina 😊!”

About: Animals have always been a huge part of my life. Along with years of pet sitting for friends and family, I worked as a veterinary assistant for 2 years and am now in veterinary school. I’m comfortable caring for pets with different personalities and needs, from energetic puppies to senior dogs who need a gentler pace. I have experience with medication administration, animal handling, and recognizing signs of stress or discomfort, but my biggest priority is making pets feel safe, loved, and comfortable while you’re away. I will be completing an internship, but I will be available on weekends for pet sitting. I also have availability in the evenings and on weekends for dog walks and drop-in visits, making it easy to provide consistent care around my schedule. For cat care, I am able to provide boarding in my home where I ensure a safe, calm, and comfortable environment. For dogs, I provide care in the client’s home, where I follow all instructions closely and respect the home as if it were my own. I prioritize maintaining each pet’s normal routine and making sure they feel secure and well cared for.

About: My family has only adopted dogs from shelters, so I know the trials and tribulations that come with sweet pups who need love. I’ve had dogs my entire life and have experienced many different behaviors. I am currently on summer break from school, so my availability is extremely flexible! I’m open to any time of day you may need. I am willing to accommodate however you prefer to have your dog treated. Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Sunderland
Sarah and Eko took care of our two dogs while we were away, and it was honestly the best pet-sitting experience we could have hoped for. This was our first time trusting anyone outside our family with our dogs, so we were nervous going in , but they put us at ease right away. They sent daily updates that made us feel like we were right there with our pups, kept our home spotless, and clearly went above and beyond out of genuine care, not just because it was the job. Because of them, we were able to actually relax and enjoy our vacation instead of worrying the whole time. We will rebook without hesitation, and we can't recommend Sarah and Eko highly enough to anyone looking for pet sitters they can truly trust.
We had a wonderful experience with Kayla! We would definitely book with her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable and caring pet sitter!
Taylah was great with Pepper. We got frequent updates, she engaged with Pepper and took her for a walk and gave her great company. Taylah also came by for a meet and greet which was super appreciated. We would definitely book her services again. Pepper loved her!

Louca is an amazing dog sitter! He stayed in our home while we were away for a long weekend and took exceptional care of our dog. He followed all of our instructions carefully and kept us updated with regular messages and photos, which gave us great peace of mind while we were away. We truly appreciate his reliability, professionalism, and genuine care for our pet. We are very grateful for his support and look forward to working with him again in the future. Highly recommended!

Holly was amazing! She has such good energy that I honestly didn’t even feel an urge to check in if everything is okay. I did out of habit lol but not because I felt the need to. She was very trustworthy and did a wonderful job with my poodle pup. My boy was in good hands! She was responsive and I loved that she sent me pictures and very good ones at that! Will definitely be hiring again!! Thank you so much for your help Holly!

This was our first time picking Katherine to watch our two dogs and one cat while we were away and she did so great with them!! She even gave our dog Chai a bath! We didn't have to over worry with her at our house and she even did some other cleaning before we got home. She also worked around a challenging behavior with our dog Mocha. We would absolutely recommend her to anyone who needs a pet sitter and will reach out to her again when we are planning to be away in the future. Thank you! M&N

Having Cara watch our two dogs and our house was a great experience! She is extremely professional and communicative. She was very patient with our dog who is nervous around new people and made sure both of our pets got the love and attention they needed while we were away. She sent us updates and pictures multiple times a day, which was much appreciated. Highly recommended!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Sunderland on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 3,552 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Sunderland. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Sunderland walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Sunderland maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Sunderland choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

- 93% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
