“Emmersyn is a total pro at pet care. She has so much experience and also just loves doing it. She sent so many great updates and photos. It’s so nice not having to worry about our senior cat when we go away. We went to teach her how to give our cat subcutaneous fluids but she already knew how! You’d be lucky to have her!”

“I was instantly comfortable with Monroe. She was professional, organized, friendly, and interacted with my big hounds with ease. The house looked great when I got home. She took care of my plants and even offered to wash/dry the bed sheets. I will gladly use her again!”

“Couldn’t have asked for a better sitter! Averyl was absolutely wonderful with our fur baby, Sugar! She went above and beyond by coming all the way to Northstar in the snow, so we could enjoy a full day on the slopes worry-free. Her communication throughout the day was excellent, and the pupdates she sent were so thoughtful and reassuring. We especially appreciated how she kept Sugar active with plenty of walks around the area. It’s clear that Averyl genuinely loves animals, and her warm, friendly personality shines through. Knowing Sugar was in such capable and caring hands allowed us to fully relax and enjoy our ski day. We’re so grateful for Averyl’s care and flexibility, and we’ll absolutely be booking with her again. Highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, caring dog sitter!”

“Angie was so over the top caring and awesome for our baby girl Ivy. I cannot recommend her enough!!! We will definitely be using her in the future for all of our dog sitting needs!! Thank you Angie!”

“Antoinette is responsible, attentive, and friendly! For my first booking with her, she watched my cat for five nights. She set up an in-person meeting beforehand and paid careful attention to his food and play preferences. She also sent photos updates with each meal, which gave me peace of mind while I was away. She even brought in a package for me without having to ask. I’d happily book her again!”

“Maddie took fantastic care of my senior dog. She was highly communicative for the entirety of my vacation, sending me daily photos and updates on how he was doing and their activities each day. I felt very comfortable leaving him in her care and would absolutely recommend her to anyone.”

“Lidia did an amazing job house sitting and caring for my 7 month old kitten while I was away. She was communicative throughout the stay, providing regular updates and photos that gave me complete peace of mind. She was also flexible, respectful of my home, and clearly attentive to my kitten’s needs. I would absolutely hire Lidia again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable and caring sitter. She was a pleasure to work with!”

“Windsor was wonderful with our dog and cat> she took great care of our house and animals while we were out of town. Easy to communicate with and responds quickly. We would love to use her again!”

“Aaron is wonderful! He is very sweet and caring to our 14 year old lab, and took our rambunctious young boxer on long hikes. He kept us updated throughout the 'tour of duty' and left the house absolutely spotless. We would definitely ask him to care for our boys again.”

“Phillip is wonderful! Totally helped me out at the last minute! Went above and beyond. I felt very comfortable knowing my pup was in his hands. So respectful and kind! Would recommend without reservation!”

“Emidio was amazing!!! Very communicative and timely!! I could tell that myla and oso got all the love they needed. Was like we never even left for the weekend! Will definitely have Emidio back :)”

“Super sweet, and took such wonderful care of my fur babies. She instantly felt like family, and took care of my babies like her own. I will DEFINITELY be using her again when I come to this area visiting family.”

“Josh was amazing with my Gypsy. I have always left her with a family member but Josh is now my official pet setter. He is caring and treated my dog as his own. He stayed at my home and took care of it like it was his own. I would highly recommend him as a pet setter. He is five stars all the way.”

“Scott was great with our new 14 week old puppy. Our puppy was pumped to see him each day and that is probably the best endorsement. Scott was consistently on time (even early!) and made it easy.”

“Lexi was amazing! Within the first few minutes of meeting her I could just feel that she was going to take good care of my 3 babies. I cannot Recommend her enough. She is so kind and patient and you can tell she REALLY cares. 10/10, 5 stars, and I would recommend her to anyone ❤️”

About: I have lived in Tahoe for 25 years and always had my own dog and watched over my friend's dogs throughout the years. My best friend (Maggie - Retriever) passed away 18 months ago and I watch many of my friend's dogs frequently, including an elderly short hair retriever that is battling pancreatic cancer. I work from home and board my friend's dogs as well as check in and walk dogs when owners need help. I do have a number of recent references. I have worked from home for 25 years. I am very active and walk frequently. I am an early morning riser and monitor how often dogs need a walk or outside break. Pets are a part of my daily routine. My home: I have beds set up and recognize different doggy routines, ie need to go on the porch for sun, or need to go out for a break and walk. I have a section on my porch and in the laundry area for their food and water and a special area where I organize all the food, medication, leaches, doggy bags. I have a place by my couches with a large basket with balls, toys and stuffed doggy animals. I watch a number of my friend's dogs, and each has a unique and special routine and they have all come to trust me a look forward to visiting. I stay a bit at some of my friend's houses if they want me to help with house watch, plants, delivery receipt and other home needs while they are traveling and away on extended trips.

“She was great! We got daily pictures and updates about how our dog was doing. She took him for walks, played fetch, and even brought him a new toy! The house was left in great condition too. We will definitely use her again and I would highly recommend her!”

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Southside Highlands walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Southside Highlands maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Southside Highlands choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
