About: I have my own doggies, they are both 3! I’m used too picking up the pet care when parents leave to go out of town and just take stress off their shoulders! Friends and family, cats and dog i’ve always been the one they call. I’m used to very strategic routines with my baby’s so i’m willing to do the same for yours. Doing the best in every way to make my stay with them as comfortable as possible! I currently work 5 days a week 8-2pm and i’m looking too pick up something i’m actually interested in, We all know how a high school job can last after high school when it wasn’t planned and i’m very interested in baby sitting and pet sitting for people and just giving back the love i share with my animals where it’s needed! I have a fenced in yard for both of my puppies and everyday i come home and make sure they get plenty of play time with me. They have a routine with me, I feed them every evening at 5pm and give them supplements for their health so they live the longest and happiest life !

“I was very satisfied with Amy. She came before the stay so both my cat and I could become acquainted and review house access. She and my cat were immediate friends. She sent me pictures each day and we communicated by text and email. My house looked better when I returned than when I left. She is very kind and caring and I would recommend her without any qualms.”

“Johana was great with my Yuki. Yuki needs her medicine twice per day, early in the morning and in the evening and Johana was able to make sure she was taken care of. It's not easy for me to trust that Yuki is being taken care of, but Johana did a great job and sent me notes to know that she was ok and happy and safe. She went the extra mile for me and I really appreciate how nice and supportive she is.”

“This is the second time we've booked Matt, and he once again provided exceptional care for both our dog and kitties. He is scrupulous about taking notes during the meet-and-greet (we had moved since our first booking, so he did a second M&G). He has a loving heart for animals and their needs. My daughter noticed how he scrubbed out the dog and cat bowls and left the house in better shape than he found it. Highly recommend!”

“Emily is simply wonderful. Left her with my two golden doodle boy brothers for a full week at my home. She executed everything to perfection from feeding schedules to walking to pictures and videos myself and my children felt comfortable the whole time with Emily and we would definitely use her again.”

“She took great care of my dog and was very attentive to her needs. I really appreciated the updates and the way she made sure my dog felt comfortable and not alone. It gave me so much peace of mind. I would definitely book her again!”

About: I have been surrounded by dogs since I was born. I've always loved to spend time with them and have been responsible of feeding, cleaning, and grooming them ever since I can remember. I have a full-time job right now, but was looking to spend my free time doing something I enjoy and I cound imagine any time better spent than with the friendliest creatures I can think of: dogs. I keep my dogs in my house all the time so they are always surrounded by us and are constantly being cared for and entertained.
“Miss Anne was fantastic! She house sat our Cavalier pack and everything worked out perfectly. Its obvious she gave them tons of attention because I think they are mad that we came home. Thanks for all the photos and update while we were gone. I sure hope we can use Anne again.”

“Kristie looked after out pit-mix and cat for a weekend and was fantastic. She was gracious and asked great questions during our initial meet and greet. She gave us updates and pics throughout the weekend. She was such a calm presence for our animals while we were away. Our home was clean and looked great, when we returned. We would definitely rebook with her. Thank you Kristie!”

“Do not hesitate in hiring Andra! From the moment I met her during our meet and greet I knew that she would be a wonderful fit. She asked lots of questions and made sure that she understood them fully. While we were gone if any questions arose she felt comfortable reaching out to us to question or verify. I am confident that our dogs were very well taken care of. Andra also kept our house immaculate and it was that way upon our return. She also kept us updated daily with text messages and adorable pictures.I would obviously hire her again in a minute. She exceeded our expectations. Thanks Andra”

“Hailey was amazing. She did a meet and greet with my pup, made me feel comfortable and my dogs looked very happy and content 😊 Hailey left my house spotless. I look forward to using her in the future.”

“Don’t know how many times we can say how much we love and trust Scarlett with our babies. We have found our go-to care taker for them when we’re gone. Her and her daughter are amazing!”

About: Over the years, my love for animals has grown immensely. Dogs are cute and cuddly little furries that will never grow up and will give you unconditional love. I am currently available for a wide variety of options as I do not have a job and don't having one for the foreseeable future. I have a screened in porch, a big back yard and one small Maltese to keep your dog company. It is a very quiet neighborhood.
“Roni was absolutely amazing. I would highly recommend her. I have 2 large dobermans and she disciplined, cared and loved on them with ease. She is brilliant! She was constantly in contact with me sending images etc and she is a wonderful person.”

About: I have grown up with dogs of my own and cared for animals for many years. I love animals especially dogs. I have one dog of my own named Lilo. I recently moved to the area and would love to get to know you and your fur babies! I am a teacher so I can provide pet care evenings/weekends/ school breaks. I am happy to do overnights as well if I can bring my dog. I can care for dogs overnight if I can bring my dog. She is a small wire silk hair dachshund & gets along with other dogs.
About: i am a dog trainer with off leash k9, i have grown up with and have trained many different breeds of dogs. i own two dogs, two cats, and a guinea pig. i probably love dogs more than i love people, and if i could live on open land i’d take in as many dogs as i could. i currently work from home training dogs, and make my own schedule. i am usually home most of the day if i don’t have a lesson scheduled. if i do, i am gone around 1-3 hours. i have two friendly dogs, two friendly kittens and a even friendlier toddler. we have a fenced in yard and lots of space to run around and play, along with plenty of treats and toys
“Charles did a great job with Koda as usual. He has become my first call if planning a trip out of town. I appreciate that I can trust him with my home as well as my old devil.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - San Mateo
This was our second time booking with Dominic and he was just as fantastic as the first. He continues to be reliable, attentive, and truly exceptional. He sends just the right amount of photos and updates-and the pictures made it clear Bruno was happy, relaxed, completely content and in excellent hands. It’s also pretty obvious Bruno and Dominic adore each other, which gives us such peace of mind. Thank you again Dominic!

Everything went Adam went absolutely perfect. Everything from the first introduction, to the process while I was out of town. It’s clear as day he makes it his main priority to give clients to comfort and peace of mind we all need when we leave our dogs at home. 10/10 recommend, and I will 100% be back with him.

Rae did a great job house sitting for us. She stayed in our home, sent daily updates and photos, and was always quick to respond. The communication throughout was great and the dogs were clearly happy and comfortable the whole time. It's a relief to come home to a house in good order and dogs that aren't stressed. Would definitely book again.

Wow, we absolutely love Brooklin! We have never met anyone with better energy! We have two big and young doodles and an older (cranky) beagle mix and her calm energy and love for animals won them over almost immediately. One of our doodles is afraid of new people and normally takes a while to warm up (if he warms up at all) but he absolutely loved Brooklin! We were truly able to enjoy our trip knowing she was taking care of our house and animals with the utmost care and respect and best of all, with joy. We are so lucky we found Brooklin and you will be too!

This was my first time using Rover, and Josilyn made it the absolute best experience! We did a meet & greet prior to booking, she answered all my questions, and I booked it! She sent me updates and photos of my babies, and she loved on them and treated them as if they were her own! I will definitely book with her again! Thank you so much Josilyn and Rover!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in San Mateo on Rover is $32.1 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 1,363 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across San Mateo. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred San Mateo walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in San Mateo maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in San Mateo choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
