“Jamie was awesome. Communicative and funny and really responsive to needs. Jamie took great care of our pup and took him on plenty of adventures. Jamie also took great care of our home. Jamie let us know about any problems promptly and handled it all well. We’re really thankful for all of the help.”

“This was our second sit with Jonas and for a longer stint. We received so many awesome pictures and updates that kept our minds completely at rest allowing us to enjoy our trip.”

“Stephanie did a great job with Luca, and they bonded after a day or two. She sent me pictures of him while I was gone, and even washed all the linens she used. Will definitely be using her again!”

“Super reliable and had lots of amazing pictures of our animals. House was just as we left it. Updated us one how the animals were doing. Would recommend to anyone and will hire again.”

“Melissa went above and beyond while staying at our home and watching our 2 dogs for a week. We would highly recommend Melissa. She kept us up to date with pictures and a message as to how they were doing each day. You won't be disappointed if you hire Melissa!”

“Tasia was great with our dog! She house sat for the weekend while we were away. She was very easy to communicate with, asked all the right questions that I forgot to share (name of the vet, when to feed, where the toys are!) and kept our sweet but energetic border collie busy with frisbee and even a hike! We returned to a spotless home and could never have guessed anyone was even there! Tasia is a great pet sitter and is very reliable and caring. We loved seeing pics of our happy pup while we were away.”

“Sam is organized, thoughtful, responsible, conscientious, responsive, and kind! He sent lots of photos and mini videos while house-sitting for Clover. He went above and beyond, watering my Christmas tree, bringing in packages, etc. and he left my apartment spotless. He was the best caregiver, all around. I am so happy to have found him.”

“10 out of 10 ! Craig and Chelsea were amazing! Extremely professional, knowledgeable and very intuitive when it came to caring for my boy! I was very impressed with the initial on boarding and the time Craig took to understand our pet’s needs, and behaviors to ensure it was a seamless experience while we were away . He had a terrific manner in meeting our pet for the first time and one could tell immediately that this was someone that truly cared for our pet’s wellbeing. It was the first time we left our pet alone to travel since rescuing him and I couldn’t have felt more comfortable that he was in good care than if left him with a family member!! We received regular updates and came home to a spotless home . Craig went above and beyond and it was overall a terrific experience!!! Thank you, thank you , thank you !!”

About: I've been a small animal veterinary technician for more than 10 years. My specialty is senior care, including managing cats or dogs with diabetes or kidney disease. I previously had a cat-sitting business when I worked at The Cat Practice in New York City in the mid 1990s. Here in Maine, I have had occasional pet sitting jobs. I am also an experienced horse owner. I am currently working part-time, and can easily fit in visits to your furry friends. I am based out of Gray and will travel within 30-45 minutes of my home. I can also provide over-night care as well. For home visits, I will spend at least 30 minutes with your pet at each visit, if not longer. During that time I will play with them, take them for walks (if canine), or sit quietly if a kitty or older canine prefers. I will feed, ensure they have fresh, clean water, and maintain litter boxes if feline.
“Emily took wonderful care of our Fiona, providing plenty of updates to us while out of town and ensuring Fi kept the schedule that makes her most comfortable, including plenty of yard time, play, snuggles and naps. We’re so glad to have connected with Emily and will definitely reach out for future sitting!”

“Lauren is professional and reliable! She is sensitive to all of our pets needs and took great care of them for 5 days while we were out of town!! I loved getting pictures from her showing our pets. We will definitely be scheduling pet sitting and house sitting with Lauren again!”

“Ashley was great. She was easy to communicate with and took great care of our house and our dogs while we were away for the weekend! We look forward to using her as our dog-sitter again in the future!”

About: I’ve taken care of dogs for a while. I had two dogs of my own and I would walk them, feed them, bath them, and do medications. I can train dogs to sit, come, and stay down. I worked at a vet clinic so I can read dogs behaviors and I know how to act accordingly. Once again I have experience with walking, playing, feeding, grooming, bathing, medications, and a little training. I am currently studying to get my Bachelors in Social Work online! So my time is very flexible. I have a commitment on some thursday mornings but really i’m very free. I will be offering walks and feedings and play time at your house. I can safely walk your dog around other dogs. Along with feedings and spending some time with your dog. Cats I can do feedings and playtime and let your cat in or out if it an outside cat. I’m happy to clean litter boxes. Or bath any animal, as well as give any medications needed.
“Lynn took excellent care of our high maintenance French bulldogs while we’re out of the country on an eight day vacation. Our Frenchie hazy is paralyzed in a wheelchair requiring bladder expressions multiple times per day and Lynn was able to adhere to her complex needs, medications and schedule. Despite all the attention provided to Hazy, Lynn did not fail to tend to our needy Frenchton Peppers who struggles with separation anxiety and can have temperament issues. She provided both dogs with love and attention. Overall, we had great experience and would rehire Lynn again to care for our dogs.”

About: Every animal has a story. Mine began long before I ever thought of pet care as a service — it began with connection. From the shy pup curled in the corner to the elderly dog whose slow steps spoke of trust earned, I’ve learned that every animal communicates in its own language of wagging tails, soft purrs, and trusting eyes. Over decades, I’ve walked alongside puppies discovering grass for the first time and supported senior dogs whose gentle steps reflect a lifetime of loyalty. With every house sit, I’m not just caring for pets — I’m honoring the bond you share with them, giving reassurance through consistent routines, heartfelt playtimes, and quiet moments of comfort. What sets me apart is not only my experience but my ability to read body language, anticipate needs, and bring peace of mind to both pets and their humans. Pets are the rhythm of my day — they shape my mornings with excitement and my evenings with calm connection. My schedule is flexible, allowing me to be present for walks when the air is crisp, for quiet cuddle time when hearts need soothing, and for check-ins that give owners peace of mind. I simply ask for a day’s notice so I can plan the best moments with your beloved companion. Your pet’s safety is my promise. In my one-story home filled with warmth and gentle energy, two rescue cats have taught me the art of patience, play, and respect for personal space. Our quiet neighborhood offers leash-friendly strolls and ample paths to explore at a comfortable pace. I ensure a calm, structured, and loving environment that supports routine, comfort, and trust.
About: I am a flexible working professional. Most of my family members have either a dog or a cat that I have taken care of for as long as I can remember. I love all dogs no matter the size or breed. I am a previous collegiate student-athlete and am still very active, so playing with your pets and taking them for walks is right up my ally. I am happy to help with house sitting, dropping by, or taking them for a walk. I look forward to helping you out with your care needs for your pets and spending time with them. I am currently in the off-season of my full-time job, so my schedule is very flexible. I will need to travel some weekends for work, but besides that I am flexible during the week and on weekends. My priority is to respect a client's home and provide the best care for their animals. I create an atmosphere built on trust and dependability.
“Heather was wonderful, my Husky pup seemed to feel very at ease with her and she understood him and his quirks very well. I also really appreciated all of the photos and updates she sent!”

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Pownal walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Pownal maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Pownal choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Pownal. On Rover:

- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
