“Jamie was awesome. Communicative and funny and really responsive to needs. Jamie took great care of our pup and took him on plenty of adventures. Jamie also took great care of our home. Jamie let us know about any problems promptly and handled it all well. We’re really thankful for all of the help.”

“Kourtney was perfectly wonderful with my four Papillons. Undaunted by numbers, she seamlessly fed, walked, and stayed in contact with me, providing photos as the Paps progressed through their day. Highly recommended. I was able to enjoy my travels and event, without worry. Kourtney is an authentic dog lover and these dogs love her !”

“Kayla is amazing! She did such a great job taking care of my stubborn dog and was very respectful of my home while staying there! She sent lots of pictures and updates and did great with his heath issues! I would recommend Kayla for anyone looking for a trusting companion for their pets. I hope Kayla will be available for Bronx’s needs in the future because I would book her again in a heartbeat!”

“Always so amazing with the animals. Lots of updates. Lost of pictures. She always makes sure to walk out dogs whenever she can. Very respectfully of our space and animals.”

“Felicia took care of our home and 4 small dogs for a week. The dogs can be quite a handful and she did very well with them. Everyone was happy and bouncy upon our return home. Will book with her again without any reservations.”

“Stephanie was great! She was a huge help when another sitter cancelled last minute. She took great care of our dog and home and communicated well through the experience. We would definitely re-book with her if ever needed! Thank you, Stephanie!”

“Lynn took great care of our boys! One day a big storm blew up out of nowhere and she rushed back over because she knew one of our dogs did not do well in storms. ❤️ Highly recommend”

“Craig and Chelsea were amazing. They took such great care of our house and our dog. She was so well loved and taken care of. Our dog is a very anxious dog and she had a blast with them. They were so flexible as well when our flight was delayed a day and they made sure our dog was still well taken care of. So glad we had them taking care of our pup!”

“Laurel was so amazing with our sweet and nervous pup, Pepita! Pepita has stranger danger so will bark until she cools down. Laurel was very patient, understanding and reassuring. She also sent updates during the evening, which we appreciated. Highly recommend!”

About: I believe all dogs should be treated with the same compassion that humans are. When I first got my dog Sammie, he was poorly trained and dealing with stomach issues. But with a change of habit and diet he’s making progress every single day! I believe in walks that are slow with plenty of “sniff time” so they can experience the world around them. With Sammie, he goes on walks every 2-4 hours and each day gets some “explore time” where I go to a park, switch to my 30 foot long leash, and allow him to take in the world around him. Giving your dog a chance to let them lead for a change really has strengthened our bond! I can work with any dog, hyper, couch-potato or anywhere in-between! Not only will I provide the necessities such as frequent potty breaks, play time, and plenty of snuggles, but I will stimulate their minds with lick mats!
“Julia was wonderful! Julia took care of our two French bulldogs for four nights while staying in our RV and we got lots of pictures and updates. The dogs even took their daily two mile walk which shows how comfortable they were with her. We’re looking forward to booking Julia to watch our dogs again!”

“Johnathon was absolutely amazing taking care of our golden retriever puppy, German shepherd, hamster, baby chicks and cats. Has left our home cleaner than any rover before and we could not be happier. Will definitely be our go to!”

“Daniel stayed at our home for 4 days and took excellent care of our girl Chloe and the house itself. His relaxed nature is perfect for our dog and he was extremely conscientious, checking in with us now and then to let us know that things were going well and leaving our dog happy and our home in excellent condition. His communication was prompt and clear. Definitely a 5 star experience.”

“Lily was great! Prompt communication — with pics! She followed the instructions we left for her. And most importantly — Lucy loved her immediately. Thanks for taking such good care of our GSD.”

About: Hi! My name is Amy, and as the owner of a rescue dog and an animal caregiver of almost a decade, I know every pet is an individual that deserves patience and kindness. I provide trustworthy, compassionate care and regular updates while you’re away! I volunteer at Midcoast Humane, have worked with certified trainers and veterinary technicians, and have handled dogs of all sizes and temperaments. I use positive reinforcement and fear-free methods to form a long-lasting, trusting relationship with your dog. I am currently a full-time student with half of my classes online, so I have lots of flexibility for morning, afternoon, or evening care. I use fear free techniques to ensure your dog is confident and relaxed in my care. Slow, positive introductions and gentle care is my specialty. For large, strong, and high energy dogs, I will run and play with them to match their intensity! My goal at the end of my visit if for you to have an enriched, content dog.
“Celine was a very gracious sitter, taking her time with our pets and giving them the patience they needed while we were out of town. It was our first time having someone sit over and she's set the bar extremely high! Thank you again, Celine!”

“Ashley was great. She was easy to communicate with and took great care of our house and our dogs while we were away for the weekend! We look forward to using her as our dog-sitter again in the future!”

About: I've been a small animal veterinary technician for more than 10 years. My specialty is senior care, including managing cats or dogs with diabetes or kidney disease. I previously had a cat-sitting business when I worked at The Cat Practice in New York City in the mid 1990s. Here in Maine, I have had occasional pet sitting jobs. I am also an experienced horse owner. I am currently working part-time, and can easily fit in visits to your furry friends. I am based out of Gray and will travel within 30-45 minutes of my home. I can also provide over-night care as well. For home visits, I will spend at least 30 minutes with your pet at each visit, if not longer. During that time I will play with them, take them for walks (if canine), or sit quietly if a kitty or older canine prefers. I will feed, ensure they have fresh, clean water, and maintain litter boxes if feline.

Aphtyn watched our 6-mos old Labradoodle while we were away for a long weekend. She kept us updated on how Lily was doing and shared adorable pictures of their time together. We also came home to find the house cleaner than how we left it! We would definitely use Aphtyn again!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred South Freeport walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in South Freeport maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in South Freeport choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
