“Overall, our dog did well at Heidi’s house because he loves to be a pack animal and wishes he were at the dog park 24/7. This is not the place to go if your dog gets overwhelmed by other dogs. Although Heidi I was nervous when dropping Benny off at Heidi’s because about 30 dogs were staying at her house and it seemed very hectic upon arrival. I thought there were going to be way less dogs, and assumed from her profile photos that she had more of a kennel set up in her house. However, all went well and Benny came back safely. I was impressed by Heidi’s ability to keep up with all of the dogs she was watching, while maintaining communication with owners. Benny came back super exhausted and overstimulated, but I was thankful that he had a very active time and was distracted from being homesick. Heidi’s outdoor space for the dogs is huge and looks very secure, so her place would be perfect for the summer.”

About: 35 years of experience caring for dogs, puppies, kittens & cats. I’m good with anxious dogs & scaredy cats. I have a flexible schedule, let me know how I can help. I am currently doing Rover full-time. For many years i have lived in homes with pets and helped care for them. Currently living in a home with 1 cat, 1 dog, and 12 chickens. We also do doggy day care and do boarding- so we keep pretty busy. I always walk dogs on their leashes. I make sure to keep medications and other harmful things locked away. We have a fenced in yard, but i’m always out there with them. I try to take as good care for your animals as if they were my own.

About: Animals have always been an important part of my life. I grew up with a cat who was much more than a pet—because I didn’t have any brothers or sisters, she was my best friend and constant companion. Later, after meeting my husband, who had a dog, I discovered how much joy dogs bring and how different, fun, and rewarding it is to spend time with them. Now that my own children are older and more independent, I finally have some time to do something I’ve wanted for a while: care for other people’s dogs. Spending time with animals truly makes me happy, and I would love to give your dog the same love, attention, and care that I would give my own. I’ve looked after dogs in my home and understand that every pet is unique. Some dogs love long walks and playtime, while others just want a quiet companion nearby. I’ll happily follow your dog’s routine and make sure they feel safe, comfortable, and loved while you’re away. What really sets me apart is how much I genuinely care. I pay close attention to the little details, carefully follow your instructions, and treat every pet like family. I’ll also send regular photos and updates, so you’ll always know your furry friend is happy and well cared for. I currently work part-time, which gives me plenty of time to care for your pet. I’m available for afternoon walks during the week, as well as boarding. Your dog will have regular potty breaks, walks, playtime, and lots of attention throughout the day. I always do my best to follow your pet’s usual schedule, so they feel comfortable and at home while you’re away. My home is a safe, pet-friendly environment where dogs are treated like part of the family. They will have plenty of attention, regular potty breaks, walks, playtime, and a cozy place to rest. . My children are older. They’re gentle and respectful, and they’ll happily play with your dog if that’s something your dog enjoys. I’ll also send regular photo updates, so you’ll always know your pet is happy and well cared for.

I left one of my dogs with her and her canine crew for five days—she came home happy, healthy, and tired after romping around the big fenced yard, dipping in the pool, and snoozing on the couch. About: I have cared for dogs throughout my life including my own, my family, and friends. The dogs have ranged from puppies to older adults with boarding in my home and their own. I live on the first floor of my building and there are no steps for senior dogs to have to worry about. While I do work as a teacher full time, my weekends are very open to care for dogs. I typically take a walk one to two times a day on my own through the neighborhood so adding a dog companion along would be very easy. We also have a cat who loves dogs with many dog toys of her own that she can share! I have a one bedroom apartment with no stairs so it is easily accessible for dogs of all mobility ranges and ages and I can keep an eye on them throughout the day. While we do not have a fenced in yard, we do have access to a field next door at an elementary school and neighborhoods to walk in with little car traffic.

I could not be more pleased with the stay Bianca had with Natalie. Home away from home, individual attention, walks, and lots of places for naps. My senior girl needed a soft place to stay while we were away for a few days and she got exactly that. Will definitely be back when the need arises.

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.

Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.

Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.

During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.

Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Pownal home-away-from-home, packing:

  • Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
  • Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
  • Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Pownal.

<b>Tip:</b> You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.

You and your Pownal sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .

While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.

Many sitters in ME ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.

By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
