“I am so grateful to have found Madison and Joseph to help care for my two dogs. They go above and beyond at each visit and it is such a relief to have someone take such wonderful care of my fur babies!”

About: I grew up with dogs since birth, I have my own 6yo dog & I have cared for many dogs as a professional pet are specialist and walker at my recent job in NYC. I am privately insured through the company Pet Care Insurance. Besides constantly caring for my own pet, I never get tired of spending time with animals. I look forward to even more pets and love in the future! Your pet is your baby. I know mine is my baby. I take pet care as seriously as babysitting. I have full respect for your space as I hope anyone caring for my pet has in my home. Like the boy scouts say, leave no trace!
“Kathy did a wonderful job looking after our Ollie (9 month old American Cocker Spaniel). She is very kind and patient! We enjoyed receiving photos of their visit and Ollie was a happy boy.”

“Iris was very attentive with instructions and so kind to our puppy! I know it is not easy caring for a young puppy, but Iris did expertly and I always felt relieved going to work knowing that Howie would see her during their visit.”

“Isabel is so sweet! She helped me last minute and also accommodated a virtual meet and greet for me. I had a repair man in my apartment while I was away and she voluntarily stayed to keep an eye on things and give my cat more loving. Thank you Isabel!!”

About: I have been caring for dogs and other animals for most of my life. I started when I was 13 and have never stopped. I have a rescue of my own and view her as part of my family; I know exactly what it means to care for pets on a daily basis. I believe that trust between the owner, pet, and carer is so important, and will do my best to make you feel confident your furry family member is taken care of correctly and with lots of love. I also have training and confidence-building experience with all ages and personalities. I only use positive-based training methods. I am comfortable with reactive dogs! I am comfortable with fearful or nervous dogs. I can give medication or potty-train, no problem. I currently stay at home and would be solely dedicated to caring for your pups! I have no obligations that would interfere with any schedules or timely needs that you or your pet may have. I am very flexible! I have a very friendly dog at home, however, she does go to work with my partner some days. My dog is high-energy and goes for long walks with lots of sniffing! She also gets 1-2 hours of exercise in a large fenced-in yard of a family member every day. If your dog is high energy we can meet those needs! (Don't worry low-energy dogs, I see you too & you can snooze as much as you want to)
“Britney was absolutely the best person for my little guy. I am super picky just because he is hyper and can be a lot. Britney went out of her way to make sure he was well taken care of and sent me a lot of pictures which I absolutely loved and needed. 100% reccomend and will be using again in the future. Thank you so much.”

“Julia was absolutely amazing! She did 3 drops in visits for us with Harley last week and it was the best experience. Harley can be very timid and scared and Julia even came by our house the day before to meet him while we were home and Harley took to her right away, it made me feel so good about my decision. I travel for work and we will definitely be using Julia everytime going forward as long as she is available. Every update included photos and in each photo harley looked happy and comfortable it made me feel so good to know he was being taken care of while I was away and my husband was at work. Thanks for everything you do for Harley! He cant wait to see you again!”

About: Knowing your pets are a part of your family, its my intentions to provide an opportunity for your pet to at its best. That means learning your pets personality and needs. My Career also entails skills with animals care specifically for sick animals, not that I am veterinary doctor, meaning I help deal with acute health issues. Being a good listener and observer due to my Scientific Career it's only a matter of time before you realize that you pet just might be excited to visit, and even more happier to return to you. Thanks for asking. My work has very set routine. Therefore when I start a project I know the days that I am available throughout its completion due to having to let processes develop on their own. So I am able to designate time for pet sitting in a routine manner and flexible manner. If I know my clients needs, I can adjust my work accordingly. Thanks for asking. My apartment is definitely animal friendly, with only on carpeted room. I will always notify the owner or any health issue, and with coordinate with the owner emergency protocols. Outside, there is a waterfront your pet can visit for walks, large yards that the pet can explore, and even an enclosed area where your pet can be unleashed so they can get a chance to roam free if ever necessary. As far as individual animal routines for food and walks are concerned, I would only take on a job if I was able to provide the animal with its precise schedule. I find animals are more confident when they know what to expect. Thanks for asking.
About: I have nearly a decade of experience caring for dogs of all breeds and sizes. Would love to speak about your specific dog's needs regarding energy, temperament, exercise needs, and availability! I work from home so I can provide more high maintenance needs, and am available for boarding for short and long periods, house sitting, or occasional visits. In boarding situations I do have one caged rabbit, who could easily be placed in the basement if he is not compatible with your pet. Sleeping/cage/bathing situations can be discussed if necessary! I live in a open neighborhood with a large yard and space to walk.
“I was lucky enough to find Ava on this site to care for my 2 kitty's for 10 days while I traveled. Ava is a great communicator, always sending reassuring photos after her visits. My cats were very well cared for and she did exactly what she said she would. I would highly recommend Ava and will use her services again without hesitation!!”

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your cat, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Portsmouth. On Rover:

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
