She was wonderful with our dogs while we were gone for the weekend. Our one dog even warmed up to her pretty much instantly and that dog never likes new people. I really appreciated all of the photo updates and the way she made sure to understand and give our fur babies the same treatment we give them ourselves, if not better. We won't hesitate to continue booking her if she's available in the future.

David was a fantastic sitter for my dog and cat. He asked questions to make sure he would maintain their normal routines when needed and sent regular updates/photos. They were both very well taken care of and very comfortable with David, which I can say confidently as my cat didn’t even give me the cold shoulder when I came home (as he’s been known to do). Thanks so much David, hopefully you’ll be available the next time I need a sitter!

Natalie took amazing care of our dogs while we were away for our wedding and honeymoon. One of our dogs can be a little standoffish with new people but they both took to her immediately. The daily updates were such a relief and allowed us one less thing to stress about! Our home was immaculate when we returned. Would definitely book again!!!

This was the second time we've worked with Heather and we look forward it every time! She provides detailed updates throughout the day, checks in when necessary, sends the cutest pictures of our dog, and most importantly, makes our dog feel loved while we're away. She handles working with an elderly dog with grace, especially given his medication schedule and separation anxiety. We know our dog is in fabulous capable hands while we're gone. She's a delight to have as a house guest and goes above and beyond expectations. Thanks for your help, Heather!

We’re very grateful that we were able to find Milica to watch our dog and home for our week-long trip. She was very communicative and considerate and took great care of our diabetic dog, including administering her insulin shots and adjusting the dose based on our communication during the day. Our shy dog warmed up quickly and it’s clear that Milica makes animals feel safe and cared-for.

Sydney did an AMAZING job watching our dogs. We have one reactive dog and there was some tension in our house between dogs, plus two have medical needs. so I was so so nervous to leave them. Sydney followed all my instructions and she even watched for signs of tension, healthy play, etc. Truly above and beyond—she spent a ton of time at my house and I came back to very happy dogs. Would definitely recommend her to folks like me with dogs that require a sitter who pays extra attention and care!

Wallis kept me updated on her progress, and was very communicative and helpful when Olivia gave us a little scare and had to go to the vet. Olivia is doing very well now, and I’m really grateful that Wallis took such good care of her.

About: I’ve been around dogs my whole life and genuinely love getting to know each one’s personality. I grew up with a dachshund for nearly 14 years, which taught me the responsibility and consistency that great pet care requires. As I got older, my dad and I also hosted dogs through Rover in our home, so I’m very familiar with caring for dogs in a home environment, helping them adjust to new spaces, and keeping them comfortable while their owners are away. I also have hands-on experience working in a dog daycare, where I supervised playgroups of 20+ dogs at a time. I managed group dynamics, kept play safe and positive, handled feeding routines, cleaned up after dogs, and moved them between spaces. That experience made me very confident in reading dog body language and stepping in early to keep things fun and safe. I’m active and love walks, playtime, and just hanging out with dogs. Whether your pup wants to run around or relax and get attention, I’m happy to match their energy. I also love sending photo updates so you can see how they’re doing! I’m a CMU student who loves spending time with animals outside of class. My schedule allows me to be available throughout the week and on weekends for walks, drop-ins, and house sitting. I’m happy to work with your pet’s routine and will make sure they get plenty of attention, exercise, and care while you’re away. Your dog’s safety and comfort always come first. I pay close attention to behavior and surroundings, so I can keep things safe, calm, and positive. On walks, I stay aware of other dogs, people, and anything that might be stressful or overstimulating. During home visits, I stick closely to your dog’s routine so they feel comfortable and secure. Because of my daycare experience, I’m confident handling multiple dogs, recognizing early signs of stress, and adjusting quickly to prevent issues. I’ll also keep you updated so you always know your pup is happy and in good hands.

Mamie was a great sitter and I will rebook with her next time we are in need of someone to watch our pets. She checked in at least twice each day with updates and photos, took our dog for daily walks, and gave our pets the care they needed while we were away. I would recommend booking with Mamie to care for your pets.

Lexie did house/pet sitting for us for a week, and she was wonderful! Tammy was absolutely wonderful! She stayed at my home for two days while caring for my fur baby, Luna, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the moment we met, Tammy was kind, professional, and clearly passionate about animals. She took excellent care of Luna, kept me updated, and gave me complete peace of mind while I was away. When I returned home, everything was spotless and well cared for. It was obvious that Tammy treated both my home and Luna with the same respect and attention she would give her own. Luna was happy, comfortable, and clearly well-loved during Tammy’s stay. It’s such a relief to find someone you can truly trust with both your pet and your home, and Tammy exceeded all of my expectations. I would gladly book Tammy again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable, caring, and professional pet sitter. Thank you, Tammy, for taking such wonderful care of my fur baby!

Milica was absolutely WONDERFUL! She sent loads of photos, was very communicative, and took excellent care of the home and the dogs. I could tell from photos and daily stories how happy and comfortable the dogs were with her. What's more, when our flight home was cancelled and we had to drive back, delaying our arrival by more than 15 hours, Milica went above and beyond to make sure our girls were taken care of and reassured us that she would be there for them as long as it took! Alexis was absolutely amazing and we will be booking her again! Our older dog takes a little time to warm up to someone usually, but he warmed up to Alexis immediately from the meet and greet - he’s a very good judge of character. Our puppy Millie was so comfortable with her that she slept in her arms, when she doesn’t even do that with us usually. Alexis played with both of them and sent plenty of photos and videos. She left our home clean and is just the greatest to communicate with. She is very responsive and thoughtful. Book her if you can!

FAQs for House Sitting - Pittsburgh

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Pittsburgh on Rover is $50 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 1,490 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Pittsburgh. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Pittsburgh walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Pittsburgh maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Pittsburgh choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Pittsburgh. On Rover:

  • 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 92% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
