“Melanie did a great job watching our dog and taking care of our home over a long weekend! We were a bit nervous since our dog is very old and picky, but she took to Melanie quickly and Melanie made the whole process super easy. We received tons of cute photos throughout and we returned home to a happy pup and well taken care of home. We would absolutely recommend Melanie to others for all dog-sitting/house-sitting needs.”

About: I’ve been around animals for most of my life and truly love caring for them. I’ve worked with horses since I was 8 years old and have cared for dogs since I was 16. I’m experienced with animals of different sizes, personalities, and energy levels, and I always make sure pets feel safe, comfortable, and loved while in my care. Whether it’s walks, playtime, feeding, or just giving extra attention and affection, I treat every pet like family! I currently work part-time, which gives me plenty of flexibility for pet care. I’m available most weekdays and have open availability on many weekends. I love spending time with animals, making sure they get attention, exercise, and lots of care while you’re away. I provide a safe, loving, and calm environment for every pet in my care. I’m experienced with feeding schedules, walks, playtime, crating if needed, and giving pets lots of attention and comfort. I also make sure pets stay on their normal routine so they feel safe and stress-free while their owners are away.
About: I have very flexible hours and love taking care of pets with walks and lots of cuddles. I own two dogs and a cat that have very lovely lifestyles. Pet sitting works into my schedule because I am retired, and have a part time job working from home. I am up very early every day and am willing to sit with pets for awhile and also walk them. I care for my own pets daily. I am sure that when I leave a home after a drop in that the area is clean and safe for the pet.
“We cannot say enough wonderful things about Mae! She watched our Kingston this weekend while we took a short trip, and we were beyond impressed with the level of care, professionalism, and love she showed from start to finish. Mae stayed in our home, and from the moment she arrived, we could tell she genuinely cared about Kingston’s happiness and our peace of mind. She was incredibly respectful of our home everything was exactly as we left it. She followed routines perfectly, kept us updated throughout the weekend with thoughtful messages and pictures, and made sure Kingston felt loved and comfortable while we were away. It was such a relief knowing he was in his own environment, receiving one-on-one attention and care. When we returned home, Kingston was happy, and clearly well taken care of. As protective pet parents, finding someone we fully trust is no small thing, but Mae exceeded every expectation. We will absolutely be using Mae again for future trips. She’s responsible, kind, trustworthy, and treats Kingston as if he were her own. We truly couldn’t ask for a better sitter she will always be our go-to from here on out!”

“Tessah took amazing care of our pup while we were out of town. She provided constant updates and communication to help us feel at ease. I’d highly recommend her to anybody considering her services.”

“I have nothing but amazing things to say about Mary! I have two dogs that require medications and someone to stay in home with them. Mary came over before my trip to meet them and make sure she knew everything that was required to take care of my girls! Throughout my time away, Mary was very communicative with pictures and was always giving me updates about how my dogs were doing. She was extremely sweet and loving toward my dogs and I would recommend her to anyone who is apprehensive about leaving their dogs.”

About: I've had dogs, cats, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and fish since I was a kid. My family also boarded/walked dogs for a while on here before. I'm very flexible so I can pretty much make anything work. I do some Uber eats as well. Not sure why it's making me put THIS many words here but it's required. I am very careful and caring for my own that I've had over the years. Right now I personally have an iguana that has a lot of particular care needs. And so I understand that everyone else wants their animals to be treated with that same amount of intention.
About: I will go the extra mile to make sure your pup is well loved, hydrated, fed, and exercised. I am new to the area and am eager to explore with a furry friend that I cannot financially support currently, so I will love and care for it like my own. I just moved to Southern Pines, and am looking for any kind of word I can. My experience having dogs in my house all my life has made me responsible and capable of taking care of any kind of dog. We have a very safe apartment complex that we take long walks around many times a day to keep your pup happy and comfortable. If your dog is also a competent swimmer we have a nearby lake with public swimming spots to enjoy.
“Shelby did an AMAZING job with our pups! She stayed at our house and took care of them while we were out of town for 4 days. We have an older dog and I did not worry once while they were in Shelby’s care! She sent photos and texts to assure us that all was well. We really enjoyed meeting Shelby and would trust her to stay at our home with our dogs again. 10/10 recommend Shelby!”

“Taylor was an excellent sitter for our dog Archie. It takes our dog some time to get comfortable with new people and Taylor was very patient and calm. He was available on pretty short notice to do an overnight at our house and he was professional and friendly. He sent photos throughout the time we were away and we felt assured that Archie was in good hands. I would absolutely recommend him!”

“Gabrielle was great! She kept me updated daily, sent pics, communicated well and best of all Thor seemed happy. And I felt great knowing she was at my house full time and not just running in and out to take care of him as time allowed. Would definitely recommend!”

About: I have personally had pets and cared for neighbors and families pets when they were out of town. I’m a huge animal person and promise to treat them babies just like my own! I’m currently working part time or have clients that only require me for a short period of time so I’m available to be as flexible as need be. I have 2 big babies of my own very friendly, my boxer still acts like a puppy himself. I have a huge back yard it is not fenced in but I do have leash runners attached to the trees for them to sunbathe. Can easily crate if need be I have an extra large crate as well.
“Ann was absolutely amazing with our special needs dog. She really went above and beyond for us. Stayed in our home, gave her medication twice a day and even drove our dog to and from her doggies daycare just so she could keep her routine. She was very attentive to Ryder and checked in with us frequently. Cv An amazing house guest on top of everything else”

“Megan was the sweetest and so good to our puppies! One of my dogs had to have emergency surgery a few days before our trip, and megan did so great facilitating her medications and letting me know how she was doing. I look forward to using megan again!”

Sophia did a wonderful job with my two boys, Wilfred and Frenzy. I was out of town for two weeks and Sophia was great about keeping up to date and following my instructions regarding their special care as well as exceeding my expectations while house sitting. I'd be happy to hire her again to work with my two pups in the future!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Pinehurst walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Pinehurst maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Pinehurst choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Pinehurst. On Rover:
- 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
