Ryan was great! She stayed with our "pups" (as she cutely called them) for almost a week. Right from the start she sent texts, photos, and a sense that all was under control. Meeting her before the stay both her experience as a student working towards going to vet school and as a horse owner sealed the deal. We'd happily use her again.

Giana was kind and very intentional in making sure our pups were safe and taken care of. She was constantly in touch with us. We did a pre meet and that was helpful as I am new to Rover. Our house was left spotless. I will definitely use Giana again.

About: I grew up surrounded by dogs, including Huskies, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, and other large breeds, so caring for dogs has always been second nature to me. My love for animals only grew from there, and I now share my home with 3 lizards and a cat, so I have experience with reptiles and cats! I also spent a year working at a dog grooming salon, where I gained hands-on experience handling a wide variety of breeds and temperaments, anywhere from very energetic, to reactive, to shy and anxious pups. That experience gave me a deep understanding of dog behavior and how to keep every dog feeling safe, comfortable, and happy. Whether your pet is laid-back or full of energy, big or small, I’m confident in my ability to give them the attentive, loving care they deserve. I can’t wait to meet your furry (or scaly) family member! I currently work part-time with a very flexible schedule, which allows me to easily accommodate you, and your pets needs. Whether you need, mid-day walks, or someone to keep your pup company for most of the day, I can easily accommodate to your schedule. I treat every animal as if they were my own, taking the time to learn their unique personality, routine, and needs before anything else. I’ll do a meet and greet before you book so I can get to know your dog and their routine ahead of time. You’ll never have to wonder how your pet is doing since I’ll send regular updates and photos so you can have peace of mind while you’re away.

Kelsey was very prompt with responses from the beginning and throughout the stay. Her questions when we had first met gave us confidence that she knows what she is doing and she is the right person to take care of our dog. During the stay she followed our asks and took good care of our dog. We will work with her agin

I’m so grateful to have found Emma! I came to Rover with an unusual request: someone to stay at my home and care for my two baby goats… Emma not only accepted my unusual request, but she followed all their care instructions and went above and beyond to give them special attention and activity. It’s clear she’s a natural with animals and truly cared about my boys! She sent picture and video updates, which gave me such peace of mind for my first weekend away from them. She kept things neat and tidy and was simply the best! Thank you so much, Emma!

This was our third time using Josh for overnight stays, and he continues to be a really great sitter. His communication is excellent. He provides regular updates and is always very responsive. It's stressful to have your pets care (and your home) in someone else's hands. Josh's communication definitely helps us feel more at ease. We have a fenced yard, but Josh always takes Rider on walks which I really appreciate (as does Rider). Every time we've come home you'd never know he was there. He brings in packages, etc. which again, I really appreciate. We will continue to book Josh without question!

Danielle was amazing. She took such great care of our elderly dog Peter while we were away. This included Peter having a medical emergency and having to go to the vet which Danielle handled calmly and thoughtfully and she sent loads of pictures and videos which helped put our minds at ease. Peter seemed really happy to be with her at our house. I would wholeheartedly recommend Danielle as somebody who cares deeply about dogs and will look after your pet as if they were her own.

About: Hello, My name is Joshua. I have been taking care of pets for almost my entire life. Recently I Have been taking care of a special needs dog for 3 days a week for the last year and wanted to branch out and increase my workload. I have two dogs myself and am a responsible pet owner. Day change each day for work so Ill be updating my calendar weekly. I know how much our pets mean to use and will treat them kindly and see they have a great time while in care. If you have any questions feel free to drop a line. I respond rather quickly so feel free to message at any time. Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day. I currently work full time and have a puppy of my own. I'm very adamant about schedules. Feeding, potty, playtime. Currently have my own puppy on a set schedule and could not be happier. Currently I have a dog of my own that live with 3 other dogs. We are on a set schedule for food and potty breaks with plenty of enrichment and playtime in-between.

About: As a lifelong animal lover and pet owner, I understand that pets are family. I have hands on experience caring for dogs of all sizes, ages, and energy levels, including daily walks, feeding, playtime, administering basic medications, and providing plenty of love and attention. I have owned a Golden Retriever, yorkie, two Great Danes, and a pitbull. I am comfortable with everything from energetic exercise sessions to gentle care for smaller breeds. I pride myself on being reliable, responsible, and attentive to each pet's unique needs. Whether your dog needs a long walk, a quick potty break, or companionship while you're away, I will treat them with the same care and affection I give my own pets. My goal is to ensure every pet feels safe, happy, and loved while giving owners peace of mind. I do work Monday through Friday from 9-1 which is about 15 minutes away from my house, but my hours are very flexible to where I can be home during the day. I have a fenced in yard, I have a pool if your dog is a water lover, lots of treats, I used to have many dogs but as of now I only have a yorkie in the house along with my two younger siblings who grew up with dogs and love dogs and my two parents.

We just came home after leaving our dogs with Nora for the first time, and I can say it was an overall great experience. She communicated well and quickly, followed our detailed instructions, kept great care of our dogs, and left our home in immaculate condition. She was reliable, trustworthy, and had a positive impact on our dogs' well-being. I was a little nervous as it was the first time we had worked with her. She sent a pic of the dogs with her the first evening that put me totally at ease. Highly recommend. - Mike

We truly cannot say enough amazing things about Caitlyn! From the very first interaction, it was clear how much she genuinely loves and understands animals. Leaving your dogs behind is never easy, but she gave us complete peace of mind from start to finish. She was incredibly reliable, communicative, and thoughtful. We received regular updates, photos, and little notes about how our dogs were doing, which meant the world to us. It was obvious they were in the best care while we were away. Our dogs were happy, relaxed, and clearly well cared for when we returned home. She went above and beyond, keeping everything clean and organized and even handling the house during an unexpected blizzard. If you’re looking for someone trustworthy, responsible, and truly compassionate to care for your pets, look no further. We are beyond grateful and will absolutely be booking with her again!

Rita was so friendly and welcoming to my dog, Lexi and my daughter’s dog Charlie! She came ready to play with them and give them love. My puppy is a bit anxious and Rita was able to help her calm down. Also, Rita sent us several photos which was very reassuring. I would definitely have Rita puppy-sit again!

FAQs for House Sitting - Penn Valley

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of July 2026, there are 5,515 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Penn Valley. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Penn Valley walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Penn Valley maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Penn Valley choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Penn Valley. On Rover:

  • 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 96% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
