“Emily did great with Paris! She followed all my instructions in the house. Took great care of her, gave her her medicine, and sent pictures and updates every day. Will definitely book again.”

“Emily was great housing sitting our dog, Ginger. She sent us regular updates on Ginger along with photos. We could really enjoy our vacation knowing that Ginger was being loved and cared for at our home. Additionally, Emily was a thoughtful and considerate house guest. We would absolutely have her house sit Ginger again in the future.”

“Really prompt and super understanding with some last minute issues. Dogs were perfectly content and the house was exactly as I left it. Would def recommend Alex!”

“We are so grateful for Isaiah! We had to leave town last minute, and he worked with us every step of the way. He came by beforehand to meet our dogs and has a lot of experience. One of our dogs is a new adoption, and she really only likes me, but he was able to get her to a place where she was comfortable and not stressed around him. That alone says a lot about how good he is. He was accommodating to whatever we needed during the sit and was respectful of our home. When we got back, our pets were happy, relaxed, and acting completely like themselves. We’ve had experiences in the past where you could immediately tell the level of care they received, and this was the opposite. It truly felt like they had been cared for the way we would care for them. Isaiah was that person. We will definitely be reaching out to him again in the future.”

“Nora was a fantastic pet sitter for my dog. She was very considerate and attentive to learning all the details about my dog. I would gladly have her back again and felt so comfortable with her staying at my home.”

“Marissa was kind, communicative, calm, and flexible. My flight home got cancelled and I had to rebook my return trip a day later. Marissa immediately agreed to extend her services when I told her what was going on. When I (finally) made it home, Peaty was happy and well-cared for and my apartment was pristine. Would work with Marissa again in a heartbeat!”

“Sara was exactly what our 9yo pup needed while we went away for a few days. She’s very communicative and always sends photo updates. She helped around the house and left it spotless. We will absolutely book her again!”

About: 25 years of experience caring for my own dogs. Friends and neighbors also rely on me to pet sit (includes exercise, play, meals, and meds) I work from home in Church Hill and am able to provide care in the morning, mid day, and evening. I do my best to ensure that they stick to their usual routine. All dogs also get a leashed walk - length and pace depends on their physical condition (older dogs may be more interested in sniffing and strolling while younger pups need to burn more energy). I also provide some playtime inside or outside in a fenced area (if available). Meals and medication are distributed as instructed.
“Victor was a great companion to Onion - they took to each other right away. Victor was respectful of my place and left it in great condition. Victor is now on my list of pet sitters for the future.”

About: Hi my name is Vinny. I’m currently a nursing student who also works in a pediatric hospital part time and I love it. I used to dog sit in high school and took care of couple of dogs and cats over the course of a year. During that time, I really learned to love learning new routines and understanding how to keep the pets I care for as healthy and happy as possible. What sets me apart is that I’m great with pets with anxiety and larger pets.I’m a bigger guy myself so I can handle pets of any size from pups all the way up to Mastiffs, Grey hounds and Bernese’s. This love of learning about each pets unique qualities is what gives me the tools I need to help mitigate anxiety in pets. I am very receptive to any teaching you might have about your pet. I have my own car that runs well and I am available for longer hours so scheduling around your needs is easy. I am willing to work with animals with all kinds of schedules. I already work 12 hour shifts caring for up to 28 patients at a time by myself and am ready to bring that same level of commitment to your home and pets. I always prioritize safety in my practice. “Jenna is amazing! She took such great care of our 3 dogs and even taught them new tricks! She is extremely communicative and sent us photos and videos often. She left our house spotless and even watered my plants for me. She is now our go to person!”

About: Lifetime lover of furry animal friends - adopting my puggle and in turn, her puppy sister/bff the Norfolk Terrier were easily the two best decisions I ever made. You can rest assured that your doggies are safe, comfortable and pawtying down with me by their side. My girls have warm blankets waiting in the dryer when we come in from cold walks. I believe in going a few extra miles to truly spoil our fur ball angel nuggets bc why not? Being greeted by them when you walk through the door is the best thing ever and I have been caring for animals the majority of my life. This is the most rewarding, satisfying and not to mention FUN "job" of all time, pick me

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Oakland
Alexis is wonderfully attentive and communicative and did an excellent job with our senior dogs! We were gone for a week and knew they were in good hands. She was very receptive to our directions and keeping the little old ladies safe and loved. We highly recommend Alexis!
Molly took great care of our three dogs while we were away and kept us updated throughout. Molly was especially patient and understanding with our older Chihuahua. It was clear that our dogs were well cared for and comfortable. We would happily trust her with our pets again and highly recommend her to others.

Ginny took such amazing care of my Tillie-Bean! She kept me updated with plenty of photos and messages, which made being away from my sweet pea so much easier. Tillie had such a great time that I’m pretty sure she’ll be requesting Ginny as her sitter again in the future! 🐾💕

Nancy did a wonderful job caring for our home and our three very different dogs while we were away. She was responsible, communicative, and great about checking in whenever she had questions. She carefully followed all instructions, and it was clear our dogs were well cared for and comfortable in her care. We came home to happy dogs and a house that was in great shape. We truly appreciated the peace of mind she gave us and would absolutely recommend her to others.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Oakland walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Oakland maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Oakland choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
