Donna was excellent! What a gem! When we reached out to Rover to find a cat sitter, we were in dire need due to a family health emergency. We have 2 cats and one who needs medical attention. Donna made time in her schedule to take us as clients. Not only that, Donna came over to our home to meet with us and the cats on a very short time frame before we left. Without us even telling her, she brought our mail and any packages inside. Our cats and home was left in great condition and we were honored to have her. Truly a wonderful experience!!!

About: I've been a dog owner and lover my whole life, and I've cared for dogs of all ages — from wiggly puppies to sweet senior babies who just need a little extra patience and TLC. I have hands-on experience with small breeds and understand that little dogs often have big personalities and specific needs. My home is calm, safe, and welcoming — no chaos, no stress. I've also cared for dogs with special needs, so I'm comfortable with medications, mobility issues, or anything that requires a little more attentiveness. When your dog is with me, they're not just being "watched" — they're being cared for like they belong here I work from home in a calm environment. I have two cats that are very well behaved and one dog who is a little crazy. She is deaf with some separation anxiety and OCD, but she is such a little sweetheart. I spend all day waiting on these guys hand and foot, what’s one or two more? 😊 My sweet, friendly dog will keep yours company all day long. I live on a cul-de-sac and we take several walks throughout the day.

Candice did a fantastic job dropping in on our pups while we were away for the day. This was our first time ever using a pet sitter/drop-in service, and she made it such a great experience. My dogs usually take some time to warm up to new people, but they almost immediately took to her. She was attentive, caring, and made sure all of their needs were met. It gave us great peace of mind knowing they were in such good hands. We will absolutely be booking with her again in the future!

Kilie was awesome! She showed up on time for every feeding, gave our kitties some love and attention and made sure they were well taken care of. We’ve never left our cats in the care of anyone other than family so we were a little nervous about how it would go, but Kilie was so good that we now feel free to travel as long as we can book her.

About: I’ve taken care of animals as long as I can remember. I worked as a kennel attendant for a year and a half. As a kennel attendant I had newborn puppies to adult aged dogs in my care. I’m currently working part time, so I do still have plenty of time available. I attend Le Moyne College, spring break is coming up soon. I have a large home with 1 small extremely friendly dog. I don’t have a fence quite yet but I will shortly. I have experience with multiple dog trainers on how to properly leash walk and crate a dog.

About: I have extensive training with large, and even “aggressive” breeds. I currently have two Rottweilers, who are big bears. I have taken care of small (chihuahuas) to large (St. Bernard’s) dogs, animals aren’t just pets, but respectively people’s children. I have a long background in farm care, dog boarding care, medication administering, training. And I really just appreciate the presence of animals. I love training puppies, and respect the boundaries of adult dogs. It’s not a job, its a hobby. I do work from home, but I can make anything work as necessary. I work criminal investigations, and can take breaks and time when needed. I prefer to care for pets in their own home. Most pets get anxious when their “person” is not with them. And I believe that is usually best.

About: I have grown up with cats and dogs. I have experienced cat sitting and dog walking for people. I am currently a cat socializer volunteer at a local animal rescue. I am a local public school teacher. I have evenings available, as well as weekends. I also have very open availability during the summer months. About: I have a degree in animal behavior that has prepared me to properly care for animals, among other skills. I have also owned dogs my entire life, including training one of my current dogs. I have volunteered at a dog rescue for about 6 years. I now work at an animal rescue that has me trained to give medications. I have also owned a senior cat for 4 years which has me comfortable cleaning litter boxes and administering medications. I currently have two part time jobs, and typically have 2 or 3 days completely available. On days I work I am available most evenings and occasionally mornings. I am unable to board animals at my house because of my other pets. However, I am able to commute to client's places. I am comfortable crating when I am not there if it is requested.

Whether you’re at the office for the day or traveling for a few nights, a pet sitter can offer potty breaks during a North Syracuse stroll, cleaning the litter box, or making sure your pet has on-time food or water refills. For daytime services like walking and drop-ins, you can also request sitters to send a report card with every visit.

Tip: You can discuss your specific arrangements with a pet sitter on Rover to what fits you, your pet, and your sitter’s needs. To find what their special skills are, look at the "Skills" and "Pet care experience" sections on their profile.

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.

The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.

If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in North Syracuse. On Rover:

  • 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
