My first time using a pet sitter and service. Raina responded to my inquiry within minutes and set up a meet and greet for the following day. Raina accepted the in house sitting for 5 days. Raina sent at least two photos every day showing Ralphie being himself which put me at ease. When I returned, the house was clean and taken care of. I'd definitely rebook with Raina again.

Alexis is fantastic! Immediately I noticed she had a nice peaceful energy, which is really important for my nervous girl. She gave me unprompted morning and evening updates with pictures, and never once did I worry or wonder how things were going. My home was also just as clean as I’d left it when I returned. Will absolutely be booking with her again, and for the long run! Thank you Alexis, Ms. Millie was so happy spending time with you! <3

We have never had anyone stay at our house with our animals before, so the idea of leaving them with a complete stranger was very daunting. Sydney was absolutely wonderful with our two big, rambunctious dogs (2 year old huskies) and four cats. Our house was exactly as we left it and she sent lots of updates so we could see everyone’s sweet faces and how much fun they were having without us! She was terrific about updating us when she got here and letting us know how everything was going. She was always very responsive through the whole process, and it was very clear our animals were all comfortable and enjoying their normal routine with her. We will absolutely have Sydney back, and I would 100% recommend her to anyone!

I can't say enough good things about our recent experience with Johnna pet/house sitting for us. Johnna took the time to meet us first to make sure it would be a good fit. Our dog is a senior and Johnna was so kind and considerate of all of his needs. Her little dog Bonnie is so adorable and I think having her here made Dexter feel even more comfortable. She sent us daily updates and pictures to let us know how he was doing. She left the house spotless and even watered our outdoor plants! It was by far the best experience I have had with a pet sitter. I have already reserved another pet sitting!

About: I’ve cared for pets for as long as I can remember. I always had about 4 dogs (plus many other animals) in the house at any given time since I was little. Anytime family or friends go out of town I’m the first one they call to look after their pets. I can guarantee I am highly reliable and will love to look after your pets and give them my best absolute best care! At the moment my schedule is fairly open so I will have plenty of time on weekdays and weekends to look after and take care of your pets. While taking care of your pets at your home I will follow any and all guidelines you have as to how you would like your pets to be cared for.

About: I have had pets my whole life. Grew up dog sledding so I am very confident in caring for high energy dogs. I have also had cats my whole life. I currently live with 2 senior cats. One is in remission from being a diabetic so I know how to care for a pet that needs extra love. I currently work from home during the day and can be available anytime before 3pm. From 3-8pm I need to be onsite for work. Most weekends I am free. I treat my pets like family. I will make sure they get the correct amount of food/water/exercise but will also be there to make sure they are having fun and feeling loved.

About: Senior dogs are my specialty. I understand that older pups may need a slower pace, extra patience, more frequent potty breaks, shorter walks, mobility accommodations, or simply someone who is happy to sit beside them and provide some company. Sometimes the best walk is a leisurely sniff around the block—and sometimes it’s a very dignified stroll to the mailbox. I’m here for both. What sets me apart is that I treat your dog like an individual, not a checklist. I pay attention to their personality, routine, comfort level, and those little quirks that make them them. I’m responsible, observant, dependable, and genuinely love animals. And if your senior pup prefers naps, snacks, and judging the neighbors from the window? I speak that language too. I am available Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and most weekends for a morning stroll, potty break, or simple snuggles. Safety and your comfort are my priority. Your home, their rules. 🐾 I offer dog walking and drop-in visits in your home, where your pup is most comfortable. I’ll follow your routines, instructions, feeding schedules, medications (if applicable), and all those very important household rules—yes, even the one about not letting them convince me they “haven’t been fed yet.” 😉 During visits, your dog gets plenty of attention, affection, potty breaks, walks, playtime, and companionship. I’m also happy to send updates and photos so you can see that your fur baby is happy, safe, and being appropriately spoiled. I do not provide boarding or pet care in my own home. My goal is to make things as easy and stress-free as possible for both you and your dog by caring for them right where they’re happiest: at home, in their own space, with their own stuff.

About: Dogs have always been a big part of my life. I’ve loved dogs for as long as I can remember because of the unconditional love, joy, and companionship they bring into our lives. I’ve also had cats, and to me, they’re all family—not just pets. ❤️🐾 Now that my children are grown and I no longer have pets of my own, caring for other people’s beloved fur babies has become something I truly enjoy. I give each dog my full attention, patience, affection, and TLC. Whether they’re young, senior, shy, recovering, or a cherished show dog, I care for each one according to their individual needs and personality. I also administer pills if needed as well. When your dog stays with me, I want them to feel safe, comfortable, happy, and loved—just like they’re at home. My goal is for you to have complete peace of mind knowing your fur baby is being cared for as one of my own. I’m a mature, honest, trustworthy, and reliable pet sitter. I don’t smoke, drink, or have visitors. I’m also a homeowner so I’ll take good care of you house n pets just as I would with mine. I also take in the mail, making sure the pool man/gardener come in time, and taking garbage out. I leave minimal footprint at your house because i like to leave the place as clean or cleaner than when i left it. I provide services to the following areas: Roseville, Fair Oaks, Folsom, and El Dorado Hills. I’m happy to provide excellent references from pet parents who have trusted me with their beloved companions. I do take care of small dogs (1:1 only!) at my house too if you like drop-in services. Please message me. I’m retired so i have a lot of time for dogs/cats sitting…:). I’m available 7 days/week. This is the thing that I enjoy doing most. This also allows me to get my pet fix…lol..:). I really enjoy taking care of pets (dogs or cats) as though they’re my own whether at my house ( I live in a condo and we have grassy areas throughout the complex) or at your house. My goal is have them feel like I’m just another family member. I feed, play, and walk with them. I also check mail, bring packages in, and water the plants at your home.

Drew was phenomenal with Meeko and Belle. I was traveling abroad for two weeks, and it was such a blessing to find someone who can genuinely care for blind pets—especially an elderly one with a younger, mischievous sibling. Drew was incredibly responsive, sent regular updates, and took amazing care of both the pets and the house. Belle is blind, senior, and sometimes experiences separation anxiety, but Drew was patient, gentle, and attentive with her. Meeko is a curious troublemaker, and Drew kept him stimulated while keeping the “trouble” under control. I’d 100% recommend Drew to anyone. I’ve already told my coworkers and friends—he’s truly exceptional.

FAQs for House Sitting - North Highlands

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in North Highlands on Rover is $53.39 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of September 2026, there are 2,685 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across North Highlands. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred North Highlands walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in North Highlands maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in North Highlands choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in North Highlands. On Rover:

  • 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 94% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
