“Brandy did an amazing job watching my fur babies! I have some shy animals and a pup who can be a bit challenging on walks, but they all warmed up to her almost immediately. Through all the wonderful pictures and videos she sent, I could tell they were being loved and well taken care of. Her updates gave me such peace of mind while I was traveling. I’m so grateful for the care and attention she gave my pets — highly recommend her! ❤️”

“Alexis is fantastic! Immediately I noticed she had a nice peaceful energy, which is really important for my nervous girl. She gave me unprompted morning and evening updates with pictures, and never once did I worry or wonder how things were going. My home was also just as clean as I’d left it when I returned. Will absolutely be booking with her again, and for the long run! Thank you Alexis, Ms. Millie was so happy spending time with you! <3”

“Cheryl was great. She communicated with me the entire time and provided a bunch of pictures to make me feel better about leaving them. She was very kind and understanding of my dogs individual needs and treated them amazingly well. I would use Cheryl again without a doubt.”

“Brie did an awesome job. She was very flexible in scheduling, coming over to meet the pups and go over instructions. She sent pics of the pups and all of pups seemed to like her very much!”

“Oh, where do I even begin? Raina sitter showered Benji with so much love and attention! They made sure to follow all of Benji's special needs. They even took the time to learn about his quirks and preferences to make him feel comfortable. It was clear that they genuinely cared for Benji like their own furry family member. They truly went above and beyond to ensure his happiness and well-being. Benji couldn't have asked for a better caregiver! ?❤️?”

“Fatima was very attentive and responsible with our dogs while we were away for a long weekend. I would definitely recommend her services. She was very professional and sent pics to update us on our pets activities.”

“Erika was great with our dogs and very knowledgeable , we where able to trust her with our home and animals while we were on vacation. I highly recommend her and will use her again for sure.”

“Absolutely the best sitter I have had!! She sent details of each day and the best pictures. My house and my dogs were well taken care of and I couldn't have asked for anything more!! Ashley is awesome!!!”

“Johnna was a wonderful and attentive caretaker for our little fur family! We got lots of updates and pics which we loved. She was able to come by a couple times before we left so our doggo could get to know her and her super sweet pup, Bonnie. We will definitely use her again and highly recommend her!”

“I highly recommend Piper! She is so calm, capable and professional with animals. Piper cared for my 2 cats and 2 dogs while I was away on a 5 day trip and, after the excitement of my return, they all settled back down quickly into routine. This let me know the attention and care she provided in my absence. Even my older cat, who generally hides from everyone, took to her right away. You can rest assured booking Piper for your pet sitting needs!”

About: I’ve been house and pet sitting for two years, caring for the home and animals of family and friends who trust me with what matters most to them. That trust is something I take seriously - every client I’ve worked with has told me their house was cleaner when I left than when they went away, and their pets were happier for having me around. What sets me apart: I treat your house like it’s mine to protect, not just occupy. Dishes clean, surfaces wiped, everything put back where it belongs - you’ll come back to a space that feels cared for and not just sat in. I keep your pets routine exactly as they know. Feeding times, walk schedules, medication, bedtime habits - I stick to it precisely, because I know animals feel safest when nothing changes. I have real experience with a wide range of pets and needs. I’ve cared for Labs, show dogs, dogs on medication schedules, and senior dogs, along with senior cats and cats on special diets. I’m comfortable handling medication administration, mobility needs, and extra attention older or health conscious pets require - nothing catches me off guard. I’m a life long animal person, not just a sitter. In have two cats of my own, so I understand pet behavior and needs firsthand - from routine care to reading the subtle cues that tell you something’s off. I come with a track record, not just promises. Two years of repeat sits with the same families and friends means I have real references who can speak consistency, trustworthiness, and care. Whether it’s a weekend or an extended trip, I’ll treat your home and pets like they’re my own responsibility to protect - because to me, they are. I'm home for the summer from college with no other job commitments, so pet care is my main focus during this time. That means I have flexible, wide-open availability throughout the day and week — including weekdays, weekends, and extended stretches for house sitting. Since I don't have a 9-to-5 pulling me away, I can be fully present with your pets rather than squeezing in visits between other obligations. Whether it's a quick daily check-in or a multi-day house sit, I have the time and attention to give your cats a consistent, calm routine while you're away. Whether I'm in your home or out on a walk, safety and consistency come first — pets feel most comfortable when their environment feels calm and predictable, so that's what I aim to create every time. In Your Home (Drop-Ins & House Sitting): I treat every home like it's not my own to take liberties with, but exactly as it was entrusted to me. That means: Following your instructions to the letter — feeding amounts, medication schedules, house rules (furniture, gates, closed doors) are treated as non-negotiable, not suggestions. Keeping doors and gates secured at all times, especially during entry and exit, so there's no risk of an escape. Doing a quick safety scan on arrival — checking that nothing's been knocked over, chewed, or left in a place that could be a hazard, and that food/water bowls are clean and full. Keeping cleaning supplies, medications, and anything toxic out of reach, and letting you know right away if I notice something that could pose a risk (an unlatched cabinet, a chewed cord, etc.). For house sitting specifically, maintaining your home's normal security — lights on a sensible schedule, doors locked, and treating your space with full respect and privacy. Sending photo/video updates so you can see, not just hear, that your pet is safe and settled. On Walks: A secure leash-and-collar (or harness) check before we ever step outside — I don't take a pet out the door until I've confirmed the gear is snug and secure. Sticking to routes I know well, so I can anticipate things like busy intersections, off-leash dogs, or construction — and adjusting the pace or path if something feels unsafe. Carrying water on hot days and watching closely for signs of overheating, fatigue, or discomfort. Keeping a firm, calm hold and clear boundaries around other dogs or people, so your pet never feels put in an unpredictable situation. Immediate check-ins with you if anything unexpected happens — an injury, an unusual reaction, anything out of the ordinary — rather than waiting until the visit is over. Building Trust: For every new pet, I take the first visit slow: letting them approach me on their own terms, learning their specific cues (what makes them anxious, what makes them relax), and following any introduction routine you'd like. I'd rather spend a little extra time earning a pet's trust up front than rush into handling that makes them uncomfortable. That calm, structured approach is really the foundation of everything I do — pets do best when they know exactly what to expect from the humans around them, and that's exactly what I aim to provide.
“Diana is so kind and generous! We have two animals and she came over twice to make sure she understood how to take care of them. Each time, she was a complete delight and also she kept me updated with updates on how my fur babies were doing. I couldn’t recommend her enough. She will be our go-to sitter from now on”

About: I've always been more of a cat person but I got a heart for dogs. Growing up I would help some family or whoever I was with take care of their dog from time to time. Knowing a dogs purpose is to help us they need activity throughout their lives. I've gone swimming with dogs, running with dogs, gone to dog parks, anything really you would do with a dog I've done it. I recently started a business but I'm not making any profit for another month. I have one source of income but that is through a different county in the state. I also don't leave home often since I do not have a car yet so I am available everyday. some sundays I might not be available. I can follow whatever rules the owner has to their pet to help them in any way they need. If the animal is not allowed to have or do a certain thing I can be sure to handle it however the owner wants.
About: I’ve trained and cared for many dogs throughout my life, from agility training high energy puppies, to senior canine hospice. I’ve been a volunteer with the ASPCA since December of 2023 and have deployed to their cruelty recovery center in Ohio multiple times as a volunteer kennel technician. I currently work as a veterinary assistant at a small practice in Woodland, Ca I am currently working full time Tuesday-Friday 8am-5:30pm as a veterinary assistant, and Saturdays 8am to noon, so when I’m not at work, I love to spend my time giving your pet(s) the attention and structure that they deserve! I can stay overnight with your pet, or do daily check ins starting at 6 am. Any time I leave your pet unattended I can provide them with a safe form of enrichment to keep them busy.
“Shelby is amazing! Very punctual and great at communicating. She did a great job taking care of our cat. She was very open to learning on how to take care of our cat (schedules, meals etc) and was patient with the process.”

“Rebekah is the sweetest! Took care of our puppies very well! She is very responsive and very good response to feedback and requests! She is efficient when it comes to last minute changes and updated!”

About: Ever since I was 10 I've taken care of dogs. I have experience in many different ages of dogs from newborn puppies to full grown. Since it is summer your pets will always fit in my schedule! Saturday and Sunday will be the only days I can't fit your pets in. I will always be willing to feed, clean, play and walk with your pets if they need it. I can stay overnight too as well.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - North Highlands
Cheryl was great. She communicated with me the entire time and provided a bunch of pictures to make me feel better about leaving them. She was very kind and understanding of my dogs individual needs and treated them amazingly well. I would use Cheryl again without a doubt.

Shelby is great! We have had her check in on our pets and now house sit and stay with them. Both times she has been amazing with them and very flexible with their quirks and behaviors when their parents aren’t home. Would recommend her and will use her again in the future!

Rebekah did an amazing job house sitting and taking care of my three cats. She was reliable, communicative, and clearly very comfortable with animals. I really appreciated the regular picture updates—it gave me peace of mind knowing my cats were happy and well cared for while I was away. She was also easy to get a hold of whenever I needed to check in. I came home to three very content cats and a well-kept home, which says everything. I would absolutely trust Rebekah again and plan to use her in the future. Highly recommend!

Dylan was great with our two dogs and cat, even providing extra help since one of our dogs was still recovering from a recent surgery. He was very respectful of our home and provided frequent, thoughtful and often humorous updates about all our pets! Would highly recommend Dylan to anyone as he is a true animal lover!

This was our first time booking with Piper. She took very good care of our Standard Poodle Bundles for a quick afternoon sitting at our home. She was prompt, punctual, easy to communicate with, friendly, and respectful of our home. Bundles took to her very well and became fast friends. We’d definitely choose her again for future sittings. Thank you for the Baklava. It was awesome!

Heather is a wonderful pet sitter! We were nervous to leave our dog and bunny for a two week trip as we had never left them for so long before. Heather took great care of both of them and made us feel at ease enough to actually enjoy our vacation! She even came through for us (and the pets) when we encountered numerous flight delays and cancellations on the way home. She was able to extend her visit and made sure they were looked after until we finally made it home. We’re so thankful for her help and will be booking with her again!

Drew was phenomenal with Meeko and Belle. I was traveling abroad for two weeks, and it was such a blessing to find someone who can genuinely care for blind pets—especially an elderly one with a younger, mischievous sibling. Drew was incredibly responsive, sent regular updates, and took amazing care of both the pets and the house. Belle is blind, senior, and sometimes experiences separation anxiety, but Drew was patient, gentle, and attentive with her. Meeko is a curious troublemaker, and Drew kept him stimulated while keeping the “trouble” under control. I’d 100% recommend Drew to anyone. I’ve already told my coworkers and friends—he’s truly exceptional.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in North Highlands on Rover is $48.84 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred North Highlands walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in North Highlands maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in North Highlands choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
