Jack has been a terrific sitter for our dogs. He shows up exactly when he says he will, which already puts him in rare company, and he stays consistently communicative. We get updates and photos throughout each visit, and it’s clear he genuinely enjoys spending time with our girls. He also takes their “loud greetings” in stride—they give him an earful every time he arrives, and he never flinches. Reliable, responsive, and unfazed by a couple of vocal pups, Jack has been a real find!

I was so pleasantly surprised when I booked Claire sort of last minute. It’s my first time using anyone but friends to watch my precious pup Coco. We were greeted by Claire and her amazing family of 3 dogs, 1 cat and wonderful parents. The pets are all adorable and well behaved. Beautiful home and fenced in yard. Claire communicated through the time away and sent lots of reassurance, pics and videos. She was so flexible with drop off and pickup time too. I highly recommend and won’t think twice about using in the future!!

Jacquelin was such a WONDERFUL pet sitter to my Italian Greyhound, Oliver. I've never used Rover before, and she kept my mind at ease while I was out of town for a wedding. I wouldn't have been able to go without her help! I received updates, pictures, and videos everyday. Thank you Jacquelin for being the best!

Preston watched my 2.5 year old sheepadoodle Archie for just under 2 weeks while I was traveling. I highly recommend Preston to anyone who needs a house sitter. He was great with Archie and provided me updates as needed and was easy to get a hold of. He even began training Archie on some different skills. He even left my house cleaner than when I left it. Preston was a great choice for house sitting and I will definitely try to use him again if I ever need someone to watch my pup and house!

About: I grew up on a farm and have been around animals my entire life. Cats are my favorite and I’ve had them since I was a child. In the past I have been mostly cat sitting. More recently, I have been dog walking and sitting for friend’s dogs while they are away on vacation or at work. I enjoy it as a therapeutic way of bonding with the animals as a form of self-care and mutual support and pet care co-regulation. Unfortunately, I cannot have dogs at my residence as per my lease agreement and being able to sit and walk with dogs is a way of being able to enjoy access to them without being able to own them myself. I’m looking to expand my reach and explore more breeds at this time. Specifically, I have experience with Labradors and Boxers. I’m currently working part-time and have ample time to schedule walking and feedings, and am able to stay for extended periods of time with your pets. I have two cats whom I adore and dote on at my home and I am very attentive to their needs and make sure they have an enriched environment with toys and play time, as well as grooming care.

Melissa was amazing! Our cat has been really picky with food and Melissa went out of her way to try different options to make sure she ate. When we came home, we honestly think our cat was disappointed it was us and not Melissa, lol. The house was in beautiful shape, and we never once felt nervous about being away from home. THANK YOU!!

About: I worked in the animal industry for the last six years and have been a certified Dog Trainer for the last five. I have experience with senior dogs; Medication and specific dietary needs. I have two for babies at my own. Being a pet owner and working in the animal industry, I understand how nerve-racking it is to trust somebody with your pets care. I’m looking to create peace of mind. Monday through Friday early morning and late evening. Saturday 9AM to 12PM I’m absolutely willing to create more of a flexible schedule upon request with ample notice. Currently in an apartment with a medium to large dog and a cat. Not currently offering boarding in Connecticut. The house in New York has a 6 foot fence with large amount of yard space.

Emily was super excited to stay with my pups even with their quirks and was able to book within a week of my vacation and meet them when I had a last minute cancelation with someone else! She was very responsive both before and during my trip and kept me updated about my dogs with pictures which was super appreciated! She was also able to give medication to one of them as needed and follow the food directions as well as made time to sit with one of them who will only eat with company. I will definitely be reaching out to her again in the future!

About: I have experience with being around animals since I’ve been 5 years old. I have two dogs of my own and three cats as well. I will make sure the animals are comfortable, loved and taken care of properly. I am patient, caring, and have high energy. I am big on play time and walks and making sure they get their exercise for the day. I have walked dogs before and also provided in house care for several of my neighbors and close family friends. I really do enjoy being around animals and find it very relaxing. I’m a college student and can be very stressed at times so getting to play with an animal really is something I look forward to. Thank you (: On a daily basis I am always making sure my animals are fed, getting play time in, cuddles and more! They are so important to me! Making sure my pets always have water and their litter box is clean on a daily basis. I always ensure they get little extra treats throughout the day as well as cuddles!

Preston was absolutely amazing with Bruno! Bruno can definitely be a handful, but Preston handled him with patience, care, and professionalism every step of the way. He went above and beyond by taking Bruno on walks, keeping him engaged, and even helped teach him how to use his communication buttons. I can tell Bruno was taken well cared of and genuinely enjoyed his time with Preston. The updates gave me peace of mind, and I came home to my happy sweet baby angel. I highly recommend Preston to anyone looking for someone who will treat their pet like family! 💜💜💜

I knew the minute I saw Sam with my pup that I could go away & that all would be well. She did a week of housesitting with my golden retriever. Sam is sweet, personable & very capable. I got texts & pics and few times a day. They went for walks when it wasn't too hot, played and did lots of snuggle time. Thanks again for everything, Sam! ❤️

FAQs for House Sitting - New Windsor

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in New Windsor on Rover is $46.62 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 1,432 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across New Windsor. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred New Windsor walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in New Windsor maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in New Windsor choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in New Windsor. On Rover:

  • 96% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 99% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
