Kate is fabulous…..she quickly felt like family and was easy with our Puli boys. While they were not on their best behavior while we were gone for a week she was a star in their care. Also ….. our home had careful care…plants were watered, mail was picked up and all was in order when we returned. We highly recommend Kate without hesitation!

Our first time ever using Rover or a pup sitter. Great communication, punctual, sweet, Whiskie was happy to have her in our home. We will be using Sydney again soon.

Kira is wonderful with pets and very reliable. She stayed with my dog while I was on vacation and cared for him as if he were her own. Before we left she came over and asked many good questions to make sure she knew how to best care for him. She is a great communicator and I knew the whole trip that my dog was having a good time from the pictures she sent. I look forward to having Kira dog sit again in the future!

About: My first job at 12 was dog walking/sitting but I have been a lifelong animal lover! I grew up with dogs and adopted my cat about 8 years ago. I have cared for both young and elderly dogs/cats as well as those with special needs and medical conditions. I am currently a stay at home mom with my five year old son. My availability is very open especially going into the summer months. Although I may not be able to do overnight stays at this time, I can do later evenings and earlier mornings. I do have a fenced in backyard that I can accommodate your pup with! I also have a dog in my home who is very friendly and would love play if you allow it. If not I will keep them separate. I can take your dog out to a local trail or walk them in your neighborhood. With cats I would be vigilant in keeping them away from open doors unless allowed. I know they love to explore small spaces and I take extra precautions to keep my girl safe! I love getting to know all the unique personalities of different cats, I love a good cuddle as well as some fun playtime. I have a special place in my heart for senior kitties.

About: I have taken care of a large variety of pets from German shepherds to weiner dogs, Mainecoon to Persian and even chickens! I especially love cuddly animals and dogs who like to hike! I try to love pets as if I’m their fun aunt! My personal cat recently passed at the age of 18, so pet sitting has become even more sentimental. I will walk (wish I could say run, but I’m just not athletically inclined), feed, bathe and snuggle. I have experience with puppies but also love the slow oldies. I was a full time nanny for 4 children under 6; and I now work in the emergency department; so don’t be afraid, I’m hard to overwhelm! I work in the emergency department as a nurse technician. I typically work two 12 hours shifts per week. My schedule rotates every 3 weeks, so I’m available most weekends and many week days. I’m also a part-time student, but all of my classes are virtual at the moment, so I do not require leaving the house. I am experienced with non-other-dog-friendly-dogs, as well as overall anxious pets. I am a very tidy and organized person so if you have a higher maintenance routine I usually don’t mind.

Madison was awesome. My original dog sitter (aka my brother) bailed on me last minute before a long trip away and she was happy to help last minute. She stayed a couple of nights at my apartment, took great care of it and more importantly, my dogs, and even helped prep my dogs to be picked up by my dad. She was very kind and had excellent communication.

About: Hi! I'm Sami, and I am THRILLED to meet your loved one. ME AS A SITTER: My number one priority while caring for your loved one is their comfort. I believe having patience and allowing your pet to make the first move is important when first establishing a routine or any sort of bond. Anything you or your loved one needs for our time together, I'm there for it all! I have always had a passion for animals and find it an absolute blessing to spend time with any and all. WHAT I CAN DO: I am comfortable with pets of all shapes, sizes, and energy levels. This includes pets that need medication, special dietary restrictions, or even pets that don't like to be too close but just need a little company- I'm just happy to meet your pet no matter what they need! MY PET BACKGROUND: I have experience housesitting with dogs/cats for up to a week. In this time, I maintained the house, watered plants, fed both cats and dogs, took care of trash and mail, etc. My family has had up to 8 dogs at once, ranging from puppy to senior. Now, we currently have 3 dogs and even a pet rabbit. I found a passion for training pets/encouraging good behavior, which led me to teach my pup tricks like roll over, bang bang, dance, etc., and we both loved every minute! We also took in a stray feral cat (was stuck in a car hood, long story), and for the past few months I have successfully worked hard to make a connection and bond with her! I do also help care for the cat in my home in Indiana. I have given pets medication many times, including wound care, vet visits, and special feeding instructions. I currently work part-time at a restaurant, with my shift typically starting at 3pm. My schedule does tend to shift around, but on days I do work, I am flexible with when I can watch your loved one and am willing to visit as much as possible before and after work. However, when I'm not working, I am more than happy to spend as much time with your pet as possible/wanted. While in your home, I will be around your pet 24/7, making sure they are safe and comfortable. I love playing with pets but can also enforce rules and regulations set up for your pet with ease. I can handle crating, leashing, feeding, picking up messes, and more. If housesitting, I am happy to assist in pickup and general house upkeep, including trash night, collecting mail, dusting, etc.

About: I’ve grown up with dogs and lots of other animals, like lizards and birds, and I’ve always loved building bonds with them—it’s something that makes me feel really special 😌🐾 I work 12-hour shifts with a rotating schedule (3–4 days a week), and I’m hoping to keep busy on my days off. I always ask questions because owners know their pets best. I want to understand the dos and don’ts—some pets are allowed on furniture, others aren’t. I make sure to follow the same rules while caring for them so their environment stays consistent and comfortable with me.

About: I have my own dog at home and I am always asked to take care of my grandparents dog everytime they're away. I love dogs and always want them to be comfortable in my care. I currently work part time at a custodial company and I babysit at night as well. My work schedule is very flexible, it is a four hour shift and I have time in between then to have a pet care job. I always make sure they have water and food when they need to. I love taking my dog on walks and making sure to take him on bathroom breaks when he needs to. I also make sure to give my cat space when I need to but also play with her when she wants to.

About: I live in a quiet, safe neighborhood and enjoy a peaceful home environment. I work, stay active in my church, and love winding down with a good book or movie. I’m down-to-earth and will treat your dog like family. My daughter, who’s now abroad, used to dog sit and encouraged me to try it myself—knowing how much I love dogs, even though I’m not ready to have one full-time. I often helped her with dog sitting before she left, and truly enjoyed the companionship. It would be a blessing to care for your pet and offer you peace of mind. I’m flexible, reliable, and would have a great time making sure your dog feels safe and loved. I work hybrid, which means your pet will have plenty of attention, playtime, and supervision throughout the day. I love taking regular breaks to go on walks, give belly rubs, or just relax with a furry friend nearby. My flexible schedule allows me to accommodate feeding routines, bathroom breaks, and any special care your pet may need. I live in a quiet, pet-friendly apartment with plenty of space for your dog to relax comfortably. While I don’t have a backyard, I take regular walks in safe, green areas nearby and always supervise outdoor time. I follow your care instructions closely, including feeding, medications, and routines, and I’m happy to provide regular updates and photos. Whether in my home or yours, I provide calm, attentive care to help your pet feel secure and loved.

About: I’ve taken care of dogs of every kind! Neighbors, friends, and family have trusted me to care for their furry friends. I provide attentive, personalized care for every pet as if they were my own. I have experience with both energetic puppies and senior dogs who need a gentler approach, including administering basic medications and sticking closely to routines. I’m patient, reliable, and great at reading animal behavior, which helps me keep pets calm, safe, and happy while you’re away! I do have some experience with cats and farm animals! Always happy to spend time with a furry friend, large or small! Caring for animals is something I naturally build into my day. I enjoy being active, so walks and playtime are something I genuinely look forward to. I also make time for check-ins, feeding schedules, and plenty of attention so pets feel loved and not just “watched.” I provide care in your pet’s home so they can stay comfortable in their familiar environment. Given I have a full time job outside of sitting, I follow their normal routine as closely as possible while keeping your home clean and respected. My goal is to keep your pet happy, relaxed, and stress-free while you’re away.

We had such a wonderful experience with Amanda! She took amazing care of our dog while we were away. Her communication was excellent, and she kept us updated regularly with messages and photos, which gave us so much peace of mind. Our big girl can be a little sensitive with new people, and Amanda handled her with so much patience, kindness, and understanding. It was clear Amanda genuinely cared about making her feel comfortable and safe, and that meant everything to us. We came home to a happy, relaxed dog and a home that was just as clean and well cared for as we left it, which we truly appreciated, even though we made it clear there was absolutely no expectation. It made returning from our trip so much easier. We wouldn’t hesitate to book with her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable, attentive, and compassionate sitter!

FAQs for House Sitting - Macatawa

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Macatawa on Rover is $44.4 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 785 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Macatawa. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Macatawa walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Macatawa maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Macatawa choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Macatawa. On Rover:

  • 98% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 98% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
