“Sadie did a great job with Cozmo. He is a big dog that has a lot of energy and is always looking for attention. This was her first time meeting him and she went over and above to create a friendship by playing with him and even taking for a ride for a pup cup. I will be hoping to book Sadie the next time I need a dog sitter!”

“Kristy was incredibly kind, communicative, and patient with our two cats and our dog. This was the first time she cared for them, and I didn’t feel nervous at all leaving Bailey and the cats in her care. She kept us updated, paid close attention to their individual needs, and made sure everyone was comfortable and happy. Kristy did an amazing job, and we would absolutely trust her again. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a dependable and compassionate sitter.”

“Jessica was absolutely wonderful with Asher! He’s a friendly, affectionate dog, but he can be a little cautious in new situations and with new people. Jessica was patient, intuitive, and gave him the time he needed to warm up. Before long, they were enjoying playful moments together, and it was clear she understood his personality—especially letting him lead the way on their walks, which he absolutely loves. Jessica was also an excellent communicator throughout the weekend. She shared thoughtful updates and just the right number of photos, giving us peace of mind without overwhelming us. It was clear Asher was happy, relaxed, and well cared for. On top of taking such great care of Asher, she left our home spotless and tidy. We came home to a happy dog and a beautifully cared-for house. We can’t wait to have Jessica stay with Asher again and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a caring, reliable, and thoughtful sitter!”

“Erin was amazing!! We hired her to watch our two boxers while we were out of town for a wedding weekend and I genuinely could not be happier with her service. She was so great with our crazy girls, she was communicative, provided regular updates, and was extremely respectful of our home. Will definitely be asking her back in the future, 10/10 recommend!! Thank you Erin!”

“Asher stayed, in our home, with our 14wk old puppy for 12days! We returned to a well trained potty trained and polite gentleman. Asher kept us updated multiple times everyday. He then wrote a report of all the training, tricks and how to continue the training. Asher also had an emergency in the middle of the stay and communicated through the whole thing …. Working with us to ensure our dog was completely taken care of. With a few hours he was back for the rest of the booked stay! I cannot recommend Asher enough. He is worth every penny and much more.”

“Grace did great with my dog Stella. Grace spent a lot of time with her and took her on walks which was super helpful especially sense Stella can be a challenge to walk. I would recommend using Grace.”

“Judy took amazing care of our elderly dog, Winston, while we were overseas for over a week—and that’s not something I take lightly. It was really hard to leave him, especially with his morning and evening meds and his full-on obsession with his ball. She was incredibly consistent and detail-oriented, which mattered a lot to me. I never had to wonder how things were going—she kept me updated with photos, quick responses to texts, and just the right amount of communication to put me at ease. She walked him, played with him (ball included, of course), and genuinely paid attention to what he needs. And when we got home, the house was exactly how we left it. Beyond all of that, she’s thoughtful, easy to communicate with, and even a little witty—which made the whole experience that much better. I felt completely comfortable knowing she was with him, and honestly, I feel really lucky we found her. I wouldn’t hesitate to have her watch Winston again.”

“Samantha is amazing. Her communication is excellent and she sent us tons of pictures. This was our first time using Rover so we were a little nervous but Samantha put our minds at ease. She is professional and friendly and came over before she watched our pups to introduce herself to us and our dogs. She was a perfect fit and plan on using Rover and Samantha again!”

“Our experience with Kathy was amazing! She took amazing care of my 2 boy cats as well as our condo, left everything the way she found it if not better. Erin stayed at my house and took great care of my Luna. She did an amazing job! My house was clean and exactly as I left it. Luna can be a difficult pup at times, but thanks to Erin’s experience, she knew how to handle her and made sure she was happy and comfortable. Luna was clearly happy to have some company while I was away. I would definitely recommend Erin and would happily have her stay with Luna again!

This was our first time using Brooke to watch both our dog and cat in our home. Unfortunately, the day before we were leaving, the dog became sick. We had to get an urgent care appointment the morning of our departure. Needless to say, I was very anxious leaving him with someone I’d just met, and he didn’t know. He was put on 5 different medications and ointments, so I contacted Brooke. She assured me that she had no problem handling the treatments. For the next week, she checked in daily, and taking care of all of our pets needs. I returned to a spotless home and two healthy fur babies! Brooke is excellent! I would confidently recommend her!

Amber is by far the best sitter we have ever had. We can always enjoy our vacation and rest assured that she will be taking good care of all of our animals. She always keeps in touch and lets us know how things are going. She always sends us pictures and updates. I highly recommend her services. She loves animals and will take care of them and your house like they are her own. You will not be disappointed. She’s the best. Thank you Amber!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Independence Township walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Independence Township maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Independence Township choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
