“Nadia & her family took great care of my 2yo Canaan. They have a big backyard & took her for more walks than we ever do! Honestly our pup may have been sad to leave! Great communication & would definitely reach out again.”

“Shayla is amazing! Pretty sure my dog had the BEST time with her and thought he was on his own vacation while I was on mine haha. She sent me lots of pictures and videos so I could see my baby bear while I was on my trip. Can't recommend enough and will definitely be requesting her service again. Thank you Shayla!”

“Musa has been great with Mocha for 10 days, which is longest time we have been away. He was great sharing pictures and sending messages. Mocha looked happy and playful in the pictures. Thank you Musa for taking a great care of Mocha. We will definitely ask Musa to watch Mocha again.”

“Alfie and Penny have stayed with Veronica many times, and as always they have a great stay! We know they’re in great hands and making lots of friends with other small pups while we’re away. The photos she sends of them are so cute! Thank you Veronica!!!”

“Sush and her family were extremely accommodating and able to watch London overnight with only 2 days' notice, which we were super appreciative of. It's clear that London was well taken care of... thank you Sush!”

“Brianna was wonderful! The girls were well taken care of & had no issues giving them their pills every morning. Our girls will be back for another stay — we are so lucky to have found her. Highly recommend!”

“Our dog stayed with Lowell twice in one week. As we were pulling up to his house on the second time, she immediately started to wag her tail, a good sign. After both stays, she was so tired from playing in the yard that she slept the entire next day. Lowell was also very flexible with drop off/pickup times, and very responsive. Would definitely recommend.”

“Susan and her husband were great to my little dog and treated me with warmth and openness. I loved the daily pictures they took of Autumn and videos of her playing with other dogs. When I had a concern Susan was very understanding and I truly appreciated that. I would love to rebook her in the future and would recommend her to anyone.”

“Alexis and Andrew took care of our dog, Hazel, over Thanksgiving and were amazing. They were kind enough to do a meet-and-greet beforehand and sent updates and pictures every day that we were away. Their family made Hazel feel right at home and we would recommend them 100%!!!”

“Carrie and Matt are spectacular! Our little pup is high energy and they had so many good experiences for her and maintained clear and regular communication. Highly Recommended.”

“Shi Ming was fantastic with my dog, Pixel! I received regular updates and photos, so I knew Pixel was in great hands. When I picked her up, it was clear she had been well cared for and loved. I highly recommend Shi Ming and will definitely book with him again!”

“Andy was so wonderful to our pup! Since it was our first time he agreed to a meet-and-greet with his dog a couple weeks before the long weekend. They got along really well. He also suggested we could see where our dog was going to be staying, which I really appreciated. When our dog returned to stay with Andy for the long weekend, he was so excited to go inside with Andy - he didn’t even look back! Andy sent us pictures every evening and answered all of our questions promptly. He makes sure each dog eats separately and takes care to follow the food instructions. Our dog was tired and happy after we picked him up!”

“Loreen took fantastic care of Zippy! She kept us updated with daily texts and pictures, putting us at ease so we could enjoy our trip and not have to worry about anything. She was also very flexible with the drop-off and pick-up times. We will definitely use her again! She is simply the best! Thank you again Loreen!”
“Jennifer and her family did a wonderful job taking care of Gunny. She sent plenty of updates and kept him engaged throughout their time together. We greatly appreciate her thoroughness and care. Would happily rebook for our next trip.”

“Had a second experience with Mee Jong and like the first time, our Dog Penny thoroughly enjoyed her stay. This time however, we had also booked overnight boarding for Penny’s little brother Dozer. Mee Jong was able to care for both Penny and our new Puppy seamlessly. With the message updates and pictures provided by Mee Jong throughout their stay, we remained rest assured that they were in capable and caring hands.”

“Again, Sam took wonderful care of Pepper! It is clear that Sam loves the dogs and their personalities. When I am away, I know that Pepper is happy and well. And he is always happy to come home but also a bit sad to leave his buddies Sam and Happy. It is like coming home from a fun vacation for him!”

“She was super accommodating and provided consistent updates while I was away. My cat has difficulty adjusting to new people and places and Angela was able to make her feel at home and comfortable. Truly a great caretaker of pets!”

“Aisha did a great job with my new rescue dog. I had only had Maggie for a week before I unfortunately had to leave her for the weekend, but Aisha took excellent care of her. We did a meet and greet in advance that was really helpful and made Maggie familiar with Aisha and her home. Aisha sent me a number of pictures and frequent updates. She was also very patient with Maggie even when she had a couple accidents. When I came to pick Maggie up it was clear that she really liked Aisha. I would not hesitate to use her again. I really appreciated her help!”

“Mario was able to take our pup even with short notice and sent me messages daily to let me know how she was doing. We’re happy we were able to find Mario and look forward to having him watch our girl again in the future!”

“Danyelle took great care of my pup. She was great with communication and treated Jetta as if she were her own! Will definitely be using her services again!”

Dog parents share their Rover experiences - Idylwood
Roksolana was a superb dog sitter. My dog has medical issues that require very frequent pee breaks and Roksolana went above and beyond to ensure that he got all his needs met in that and every other way. She sent me tons of photos, which set my mind at ease while I was away (plus they were adorable). Great experience and so grateful for her last minute availability.

I'm so grateful to Ellie for taking care of my little Bella! As always, she went above and beyond. When I had to pick up my dog later than originally planned, Ellie made her a special dinner of chicken and rice so she didn't have to miss her usual dinner time. And Ellie's whole family gives my little Bella love and attention, so she feels right at home whether she stays for one day or three.

Loreen is such an amazing person overall! I was so nervous about leaving my dog, Kian, with someone while going on an overseas trip, and Loreen completely understood how I felt. She gave me so much comfort and reassurance, which made leaving him so much easier. Throughout Kian’s stay, she sent me lots of pictures and videos, which I absolutely loved and appreciated. She gave him so much love, cuddles, attention, and of course, plenty of scratches! She also made sure to keep up with his normal routine, which was really important to me. I had such a great experience leaving Kian with Loreen and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone they can truly trust with their dog. As someone who gets very nervous about leaving my dog, having that peace of mind meant everything to me. I absolutely love Loreen and honestly wouldn’t want anyone else taking care of Kian! Thank you so much for taking such amazing care of my baby! ❤️🙏🏻

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Idylwood home-away-from-home, packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Idylwood.
<b>Tip:</b> You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
You and your Idylwood sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
