Erin is an amazing pet sitter. She’s super responsible, attentive, responsive, and empathetic, which made it so much easier for me to be away. She took care of my cat just as well as I would, following my instructions in detail and, sometimes, even exceeding my expectations. She also kept the house very clean, I came back and everything looked spotless. What I really appreciated was the communication. She sent updates and photos minimum 2-3 times a day, which gave me a lot of peace of mind. On top of that, she watered my plants and even picked up my cat’s medication, which was truly above and beyond. I really appreciate her help and would definitely recommend her.

We are so grateful for Savannah! We are new to the area and needed to travel. Savannah set up a meet and greet and immediately got on the ground and have our senior pup lots of love and pets. Our dogs health took a turn with major mobility issues just before Savannah's stay and Savannah didn’t hesitate. She stayed by her side and treated her with comfort and care even in really difficult situations. She communicated with me regularly and sent pictures. The house was exactly as we had left it when we returned. She definitely gets 5 stars!

Thank you Darla for doing such an awesome job with Evie, Boo and PJ! Even though Evie is still in mourning over the passing of Rudolph Valentino Jones, you took great care of her and she ate food for you, bonus round since she hasn't eaten a lot in the last week or so. Thank you for taking excellent care of them and my beautiful home.

About: What sets me apart is my experience as a veterinary receptionist, which has given me a strong understanding of animal health, behavior, and the importance of noticing subtle changes in a pet's condition. I know how to stay calm in stressful situations and understand the value of following medication schedules, special diets, and veterinary instructions accurately. I believe every pet deserves individualized care. Whether your pet is a playful puppy, an energetic adult, or a senior who needs extra patience and attention, I'll tailor my care to their unique needs and routine. My goal is to help your pet feel safe, comfortable, and loved while you're away. Pet care fits naturally into my schedule. Since I work as a veterinary receptionist during the week, I make time during my one-hour lunch break for drop-in visits when needed, while also dedicating my free time outside of work to caring for pets. I can provide walks, playtime, feeding, companionship, and consistent routines. I enjoy making time for pets and providing the attention, patience, and care they deserve while their parents are away. I provide pet sitting in the comfort of your home, where pets can stay in their familiar environment and maintain their normal routine. I focus on keeping their feeding schedule, exercise, playtime, and daily habits consistent while providing plenty of attention and companionship. With my experience as a veterinary receptionist, I’m comfortable following specific care instructions, recognizing changes in behavior, and giving pets the patience and care they need. My goal is to help your pets feel safe, comfortable, and loved while you’re away.

About: I'm retired, and thus very flexible. I'm quite reliable and dependable. My girlfriend and I live in a historic house near downtown Petaluma. I go for a nice long walk/run most days, and would love to have your dog keep me company! For overnight stays, my girlfriend would need to be able to stay with me, so your pet(s) will get twice the attention and twice the love! I've had cats or dogs throughout most of my life, and love both. I'm mostly retired, so I'm very flexible about scheduling. Ideally my assignments are in the morning or evening, leaving the middle of the day free for kayaking, bicycling, playing music, or just relaxing. Obviously, it's a lot of trust to put in a stranger from the internet to come into your house while you're gone. Whether it's talking on the phone, meeting in person, being Facebook friends, I'll do my best to help you know I'm not a scammer or a robber.

About: I have had animals of all kinds in my home since I can remember. I grew up believing I would become a vet; I instead pivoted into neuroscience, but my love of animals still remains! I grew up with a German shepard -Rottweiler mix which has given me a soft-spot for large breed dogs, but I love everything with four legs! I have been volunteering at animal shelters as a dog walker and foster home since I was 12 years old, giving me experience with a range of animal's temperments and needs. I am experienced with reactive dogs and shy dogs, and am happy to cater my skills to your animal's needs. Note: I am also a runner and would be happy to take your dog for a run if they are well-behaved on a leash. I am currently between jobs, so I am happy to cater to your schedule. Open to becoming your weekly dog walker, or go-to house-sitter. Feel free to reach out about scheduling details! I am an incredibly calm person and I hope to carry that with me in my pet care. If welcomed into your home I will be nothing but grateful, and will follow any house rules you set.

About: Apart from my own sweet potato, I've taken care of good boys and girls for family, friends, and neighbors for years. I'm lucky to have bonds with many fur babies, each with their own personality - shy, reactive, energetic, independent, anxious, playful. From legit puppies to senior puppies, I've cared for a variety of breeds. I can administer medicine if needed and understand the seriousness with special diets. My angel was reactive towards certain things, so I'm aware of the importance of keeping a calm, confident presence to help them feel safe and secure. It's important to understand and respect each dog for their unique characteristics and be their buddy in the world. I love dogs and am always happy to take them on walks, play with them, and care for them. They're our precious babes and I treat each one as such! I'm a freelancer with a flexible schedule. So I have extra time to spend with your pups! Currently, I'm available mornings and evenings, and am open to collaborating which days of the week work for both of us! I'm unable to care for your fur baby at my place, but I have experience with house sitting. I will treat your home with full respect and honor any requests. I understand how stressful it is to have your loved one in someone else's care, so I take my role seriously. My girl was my world and I will treat your fur baby with just as much love and care.

About: I've spent years caring for my own pets, including senior dogs and cats, and I understand how important it is to treat every pet like family. I'm comfortable with puppies, shy dogs, counter surfers, herding breeds, and dogs who simply need alittle extra patience. Your pets safety, happiness, and routine always comes first. Please note: For Constant Care: If your pet needs someone home with them and cannot be left alone for more than 2–3 hours at a time, there will be an added constant care rate of $75 per day. I schedule my day around making sure they're fed, exercised, and given plenty of love. My job allows me to be very flexible with my time. I like to keep the dogs routine as much as possible. Some dogs can get anxious when someone new is introduced and I find it's best to keep things as simple and normal as possible.

About: I have always been good at training dogs, I have a 9 year old dog of my own and I love taking him on walks. I am currently in school locally at the SRJC, I am in school at both the Petaluma and Santa Rosa campus. I am a full time student and I also do volunteer work with Forgotten Felines and Forget Me Not Farm. Since I don’t have a job, this makes me the ideal candidate to work with your lovely sidekicks with no distraction! Working with animals is my dream, I want to be a neuro-vet, this is how I can work closely with animals in my current stage. My school hours are between 9AM-4PM M + W, and 9-11 Tues + Thurs, I will be in school during these times and return immediately to assist with your pet(s) afterward! I usually have an hour - hour and a half gap in between classes, if I need to stop by for a few minutes during that period I’m sure we will work it out. I love making sure that animals are comfortable, I will ensure house rules are in place, and I am excellent in dog training. I love to spend time with the animals even when not required.

FAQs for House Sitting - Haystack

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Haystack on Rover is $62.16 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 4,312 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Haystack. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Haystack walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Haystack maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Haystack choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Haystack. On Rover:

  • 91% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 95% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
