“Melynda did such a great ?? job taking care of my dogs, that I almost think they wanted to stay. She’s reliable, reasonably priced, and genuinely loves dogs. I totally recommend her but will be disappointed if she’s so over booked that I can get her to take my dogs ?! Thank you Melynda!”

“Michelle was the best sitter we could ever dreamed of ! She has an amazing personality and a huge heart for dogs. That was a first time we left our Jax with the sitter, and he came back as happy as he can be , and even a little spoiled 😊. Michelle is very knowledgeable and detailed oriented, and she always follows your home routine. She treats every dog like her own , and gives them a lot of attention. The best sitter ever!”

About: I have been taking care of animals since I was 10 years old.My dog cocker spaniel lived 17 years. My two cats and dog lived together and were friendly. I work part-time remotely and would be happy to look after your animals during your vacation. I have enough time to walk your dogs. Small dogs and cats are welcome. I live in a new community, back yard, lots of space for walking, no big roads, big house . A fence will be installed soon.

About: I’ve always loved animals and pets and have been taking care of them my entire life. I’ve had a few jobs where I was a doggy day care specialist and have worked as one for 3 years. I have a good sense of how dogs act when anxious nervous or even excited. My job included staying over night with dogs along with walking them and feeding them. I do work at restaurants in the afternoons during the week and weekends till 8. I have three days off a week in which I can daycare dogs and watch over them. Normally Tuesday and Wednesday. Walking is no big deal my availability is always open for walking I provide attentive, personalized care for pets both in my home and in clients’ homes. I make sure each pet stays on their normal routine as closely as possible, including feeding schedules, fresh water, walks, playtime, and any specific care instructions. In a client’s home, I also focus on keeping pets comfortable in their familiar environment while maintaining a clean and respectful space. In my home, I create a safe, calm environment where pets get plenty of supervision, attention, and exercise. My goal is always to make pets feel comfortable, cared for, and stress-free while their owners are away.
“Gavin was very patient , kind and understanding of my crazy schedule for this weekend and also my first time pet parent anxiety, and my dog loved being in his carelol I would gladly book with him again!”

“Ashley was great! She responded to my request almost immediately, was able to take care of my puppy upon very short notice, and she sent me cute pictures and videos throughout his short stay. I will definitely request Ashley again if we need a sitter.”

About: I have taken care of dogs, cats, fish, and lizards my whole life. I will spoil your pets based on what the owner allows me to do. I have an 11 year old Boxer who loves companion ship of all animals. Currently I am unemployed so pet care is my main focus. When I’m not taking care of my 11 y/o Boxer and 1 year old Bearded Dragon I’m looking up ways to make my animals more happy I will take dogs on walks at least 2 times a day and will take them to dog parks to run around. I have a 11 year old Boxer that will keep your dog company too. This household is cat friendly as well and will treat the cat like a king/queen that they believe they are.
“Dorene had our 18 month chocolate lab for several weeks total in May/June. Pal was well taken care of, went on several walks each day, and learned to play appropriately with her dogs. Dorene followed all our instructions to reenforce our training even adding a much appreciated technique to discourage Pal’s barking. We are happy to have Pal back home, but I think he misses Dorene, the daily walks, and her dog Cloe.”

“David and Mary were great! They sent me pictures of how my dog Pluto was doing when I dropped him off on an extended stay of 9 days. I could tell that he was loved and had a very comfortable stay with David and Mary. Would definitely book with them again.”

About: My husband and I have had dogs our entire lives. We have been fostered dogs in the past and our children and current dog both love friendly furry pets! I have very open availability- I am a stay at home mom and 2 of my kids are in school. So outside of drop off and pick ups I have open availability! I have a fenced yard and a friendly small dog to keep your pet company! We enjoy going on walks around the neighborhood and playing fetch in the backyard.
“This was Remy’s first time staying at Marilyn’s and she had a wonderful experience. She immediately warmed up to Marilyn, which is not typical for her shy nature. Marilyn took Remy on many walks and played fetch in the backyard. She provided pictures & updates throughout the day. Lastly, Marilyn was super accommodating and flexible with pick up time, which was greatly appreciated.”

“Tricia was awesome! Her dogs are so cute & you can tell she really loves animals as this is all she does so her main priority is your babies. We got so many texts while we were away which we thought was amazing. Knowing our babies were happy & doing good made us feel really good about leaving them with her. They loved her & she loved them too & my little Bella was super tired when we got her back and napping all night which was such a relief. We can’t wait to have them stay with her again and I’m sure they’ll be excited too!”

“Penny looked after Ginger as a trial night before we go on a longer trip this summer. I could tell Ginger had a blast and Penny is very caring with the dogs. I’m not concerned with leaving my pup with Penny when I have to be gone this summer. Thank you Penny and Ginger and I will see you again soon!”

“Thank you for everything that you did yvette! It was all so last minute! My dogs are happy and so am I. I really appreciated the updates everyday and I can't wait to have them back at your place for some fun.”

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in IL ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies. Cats may be required to have Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Rabies up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a board-certified veterinarian or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means our team will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
