“So glad I we were able to hook-up with Lauren. She was exceptionally attentive for a first visit, which was much appreciated. Will definitely be booking with her again.”

“Jennifer came for a meet and greet with Angus, and I was so impressed! It was apparrent immediately that she is a true animal lover, Angus warmed to her right away. She's also professional and a great communicator!”

“So glad we found Juliette to cat sit our shy rescue Samantha! It was evident how much Juliette loves cats! It gave us peace of mind to know Samantha was in good hands while we were away and we appreciated the photos!”

“Katie was wonderful. It was our first time to have someone do drop-in visits for our cat, Moscato. We were away for a few days and Katie kept us posted with photos and how my cat was doing. We are grateful for Katie. She is very caring, attentive and most of all trustworthy. My Moscato was well taken cared of just like her own. I feel comfortable knowing that I have Katie to contact when something comes up and need care for my cat. I highly recommend Katie!! Truly a Star sitter!!”

“I’m highly impressed with Aaron. He takes dog walking to another level! Very professional and transparent. Not only does he take the dogs for a walk, but he clocks his departure and arrival and includes a map of where he went. He leaves a real nice summary that paints a picture of the dog’s outing. My 2 dogs are having a lot of fun with him. My German Shepherd dog took right to him, sensing that Aaron was a true dog lover, especially lover of German Shepherd dogs 😁. In addition to loving dogs and giving them a great time, he has that extra sense of knowing how to care for them. He let me know he wiped the salt from my dogs’’ paws upon his return from a walk in the snow. I’m feeling blessed to have found him.”

“Suzanne was very communicative and friendly. This was our first time hiring a pet sitter and we were nervous about not only having a stranger in our house, but also trusting someone new with our fur babies. However, she made us feel very much at ease and handled everyone just fine. I would definitely hire her again next time we go away on vacation.”
About: Your pet’s new best friend and spoiler when you’re not around. With a degree in Animal Science and over 30 years of experience in everything from paws to claws (and even scales and feathers!), I’ve worked as a veterinary technician, an animal behaviorist (yes, I speak fluent dog AND cat), and I’ve even run my own pet care company for years providing daily walks, home visits and even house sitting. Whether your dog thinks they’re a couch potato or your cat is a secret ninja, I’m here to make sure they’re pampered, safe, and entertained. From horses to hedgehogs, I’ve got you covered – and their best interests are always my top priority. Your pets will be in the hands of an experienced professional who’s equally passionate about their care and keeping them spoiled while you're away. Looking forward to meeting your fur, feathered, or scaly family members soon! Feel free to reach out with any questions or to book a complimentary meet & greet session. I am currently working as a full-time teacher, but am very accommodating and flexible to stay overnight, do morning and afternoon visits to see your pets are safe and happy. On the weekends I can be there around the clock, but during the week I am away for work. Unfortunately, I don't offer sitting in my home. Landlord's rules, not mine. But I am happy to take care of your pets in their own environment by staying at yours, which research shows is less stressful and traumatic for your pet.
“Guinevere was fantastic! Great communication, with pictures of my boy playing and being cuddled just like I'd have done. I was worried because I had never left my cat before. Guinevere made sure that she took care of him just as I would and when I got home, my cat was a happy boy! If you're looking for a pet sitter who cares for your fur babies just as you would, Guinevere is the one!”

“Kevin is great! He took care of our two dogs over a holiday and was right on time, always left an update, and the dogs seem to be happy! I would recommend Kevin to take care of anybody’s pets.”

“Chelsea has been such a wonderful addition to our regular schedule ! She is friendly, reliable, timely, and detail oriented. She promptly fills us in on any important happenings throughout her visits. Most importantly she takes such good care of our Sadie girl, and we are so thankful 🙂”

About: I’ve been caring for dogs since I was just 6 years old—whether it was my own pup or a neighbor’s. That early experience taught me patience, responsibility, and how to understand different personalities in dogs. Over the years, I’ve gained hands-on experience with puppies who need consistency and training, as well as senior dogs who need a little extra gentleness and care. I treat every dog like they’re my own, making sure they feel safe, loved, and happy every time we’re together. As a full-time student, I’ve built my schedule to make plenty of room for pet care. I’m available on weekdays after 5 PM, which is perfect for evening walks or playtime. Fridays I’m completely free in both the morning and evening, and I’m totally available on weekends. Whether I’m in my home or yours, your pet’s safety and comfort are always my top priorities. I take time to understand each dog’s unique needs, routines, and personality so they feel secure and cared for. I always double-check doors, leashes, and gates to ensure pets stay safe. You can trust that I’ll treat your pet with the same care and respect as I do my own.

Lauren did an exceptional job walking my dog Ollie while I was traveling. It was his first time with Lauren and immediately decided she was his bestie for the week. Her reports were thoroughly positive and detailed. Lauren will definitely be our first choice for future Josh sits!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first Meet & Greet.
sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
