“We had to leave our goldendoodle for three days while out of state. She had not been left alone since being boarded at our vet 4 years ago, so we had concerns. Heather was wonderful! She came to our house twice before we left to learn our dog's habits and become familiar with her. Heather stayed at our home during our time away. She followed our dog's schedule to perfection (feeding time, potty time, nap time, bed time, play time, etc.). The day after our return, our dog was looking around for Heather. Heather also updated us regularly, including photos. I would recommend her highly, and hope to use her again.”

About: Hi! I’m Lex, a lifelong animal lover with years of hands-on experience caring for furry friends. Growing up surrounded by dogs and cats—and helping with my mom’s pet sitting business in Pennsylvania—I’ve always felt right at home with pets of all kinds. From neighborhood pups to my own snuggly cat, I know just how much love, patience, and attention animals need when their humans are away. Whether it’s belly rubs, playtime, or just some cozy company, I’ll make sure your pet feels safe, happy, and loved while you’re gone. Think of me as your pet’s second-best friend (after you, of course!). Let’s give your pet the care they deserve—because they’re family. I’m currently a grad student so my time is flexible. I love spending time with animals and so this will be a fun opportunity. I’m also great at time management and a morning bird, so happy to tailor my schedule for each pets needs. Depending on the pet is how I tailor my services. Some animals need more attention and care with lots of belly rubs and pets. Others need more attention and play time. While others just need some cuddling. Depending on what type of animal you have, I can modify around that. My cat is very spoiled in my house and he has full reign of his kingdom as he’d say.

About: Hi! I am here in New Haven for the next two months for a summer internship. Im looking for something to keep me busy outside of work and to revive myself of my current deprivation from dogs! I live an active lifestyle and would love to walk and explore New Haven. I currently reside in the East Rock neighborhood. I can give walks anytime before 9:30 am, and after 5 pm! Monday-Friday! More flexible on weekends! I can accommodate when needed! Would prefer to work with happy dogs! I don’t tolerate misbehaved dogs! Will make sure that they are under control! I will take them on walks, make sure they have social opportunities if needed, and be there friend!!

“Janalie was very patient with my anxious dog who is scared of new people. She stayed in touch and sent lots of pictures all weekend. I felt very comfortable being away knowing our dog was in good hands!”

“Madeleine took great care of our dogs and cat, was super easy to communicate with, and she left our house very clean! We were lucky to get to have Madeleine spend the holidays with our pets. Thanks!”

About: I have been responsible for my own pets’ care since I was 12. I have had a very active German Shepard mix and Sharpei growing up, which I was responsible for feeding, bathing, and care. I have a family friend that I walk and hike their dog for so I am comfortable doing both if your dog is more active. I currently work fully remote from my home with schedule flexibility so I am able to take pets for walks in mornings, afternoons, and most evenings. My schedule allows me to be flexible for walking and pet visits during guardian vacations, time away, etc. I have a pet-free home for any pets that are not used to other animals. I live in a safe, walkable neighborhood with green space. When dog-sitting, I take the approach of playing with a pet outside and familiarizing prior to introductory period in the home.

14. Alexa H.
“Alexa (Lex) is a genuinely kind-hearted and compassionate person with a deep love for animals. She currently cares for her cat, Toulouse—named after one of her all-time favorite films, The Aristocats. Time and again, Lex has stepped up to help care for my own cat, Zeke, as well as two cats belonging to a mutual friend—one of whom was a rescue from the street. Lex showed incredible patience and care in helping that rescue cat feel safe, calm, and loved. Lex would be a truly wonderful addition to your caregiving team. Her warmth, reliability, and wholehearted dedication make her someone any pet—or person—would be lucky to have around.”
