About: Hi! I’m Richard Twaits, born and raised in Coral Gables, Florida with over 21 years of pet care experience. Feel free to read the lengthier bulk of my summary, but for convenience I have prepared a bullet point summary of my skills & strengths: Lifetime Dog Owner – Raised with dogs since early childhood; experienced with all life stage • 🐶 Rescue & Trauma Experience – Skilled in building trust with abused or anxious dogs • Lifetime Dog Owner – Raised with dogs since early childhood; experienced with all life stage • 💉 Medical Care Knowledge – Familiar with chronic conditions (e.g., Addison’s disease) and medication routines, including injections • 🏃♂️ Active & Athletic – Committed to daily walks, exercise, and play for dogs of all energy levels • 🐕 Large & Small Dog Handling – Comfortable caring for breeds from Shih Tzus to Pitbulls and Standard Poodles • 🚨 Emergency Experience – Calm and fast-reacting in emergencies (e.g., breaking up dog fights, rushing to ER) • 🧠 Behavior & Temperament Awareness – Skilled at reading dog behavior and adjusting approach accordingly • 🏡 Experienced Pet Sitter – Cared for dogs of family, friends, and neighbors for years • 🤝 Gentle Giant Personality – 6’4", 225 lbs; firm, loving presence that dogs feel safe around • 👀 High Situational Awareness – Alert on walks and in public spaces; prioritizes safety at all times • 💼 Reliable & Responsible – Former CPA auditor; understands time management and accountability • 💧 Health & Wellness Focused – Values hydration, outdoor time, and structured routines for happy, healthy pets My love for animals started early. When I was just a few years old, my mom found an abandoned Shih Tzu in our neighborhood. We took him in and named him Yankee. He wasn’t the easiest dog—snappy, growled at everyone but my mom, and didn’t let anyone else pick him up. But over time, we formed a bond. We later learned he had been abused before we adopted him, which explained a lot. Slowly but surely, he came to trust us. I’ll never forget the first time he let me scoop him up after chasing a jogger down the street (something that happened more than once!). Yankee taught me that some dogs need time, patience, and love to come out of their shell. He went from biting us as kids to becoming a beloved family member who would cuddle in our laps when he wasn’t feeling well. That experience taught me a lot about pet temperament and trust. As Yankee reached his final days, we adopted Lena, a black standard poodle. After Yankee passed, I quickly realized something wasn’t right with Lena. A vet diagnosed her with Addison’s disease—a rare hormonal imbalance. Without a monthly injection, her muscles would collapse from exhaustion. I even had to rush her to the ER once. That experience taught me how critical it is to stay on top of medications and chronic health issues. I take that responsibility very seriously. After Lena began declining far too early, we rescued Gigi, a golden retriever/chow mix. The two were adorable together—Gigi trying to gnaw on Lena’s legs as a teething puppy, and Lena tolerating it with quiet elegance. After Lena’s passing, Gigi became my baby. She’s now almost 13, but I keep her active and healthy. As an athlete myself, I’m very disciplined with her care: daily walks, playtime in our huge backyard, and lots of love. I also care for my dad’s pitbull/lab mix when he’s out of town. I helped raise her from puppyhood, so I’ve cared for dogs of all sizes and energy levels—from snappy seniors to energetic puppies. I take pet care seriously. I’ve worked as a Big 4 CPA auditor (60–80 hours a week—I get how hard it is to balance life and pet care). That’s why I’m here—to help you provide your dog with the love, exercise, and attention they need while you’re at work, traveling, or simply recovering. I've also had to protect my pets in intense situations. At a dog park, I once had to physically unhook a pit bull’s jaws from my Gigi. Another time, I defended her from a small dog that torpedoed out of a neighbor's yard. I never use violence against animals; I love them all. But I’ve learned how to react quickly and prioritize safety for every dog involved. I’m always aware of my surroundings and cautious on walks to protect pets from traffic, off-leash dogs, or surprises around the corner. I’m 6’4”, 225 lbs—what you might call a gentle giant. I’ve got a firm but caring touch, and I’ve found that dogs tend to trust me quickly. No dog is too big or too small for me. I’ve cared for the pets of neighbors, family, and friends for many years, and I’d be honored to care for yours, too. Pet care is a natural part of my daily routine. I work remotely and have a flexible schedule, which allows me to give pets under my care the time, attention, and activity they need throughout the day. Whether it's early morning walks, midday playtime, medication schedules, or evening routines, I’m able to fully accommodate a pet’s needs. I also stay active myself, so daily walks, backyard play, and consistent hydration are already part of my lifestyle. Pet care isn't something I squeeze in—it's something I plan my day around. Safety and trust are my top priorities when caring for any pet, whether in my home or yours. I always take time to understand each dog’s unique needs, personality, and boundaries before beginning care. In your home, I treat the space with respect, follow all instructions carefully, and maintain routines to keep your pet comfortable and stress-free. I'm alert on walks, avoid unsafe or crowded areas, and always keep pets securely leashed unless in a fully fenced space with permission. If I'm caring for a pet in my home, I make sure the environment is calm, clean, and pet-friendly—free from hazards and tailored to the dog’s energy level and comfort. I also have a large, secure backyard that allows for safe outdoor play and exercise. I’ve dealt with everything from high-anxiety rescues to medical conditions requiring medication, and I bring a calm, confident presence that helps dogs feel safe. Whether it’s administering meds, protecting pets from off-leash dogs, or recognizing signs of stress, I act quickly and responsibly.

About: What sets me apart from other sitters is how quickly I bond with every dog I care for. I’ve dog sat for families before, and those pups truly became part of my family too. I make sure every dog feels comfortable, safe, and loved, even when their people are away. I’ve grown up with dogs my whole life, so caring for them comes naturally to me. Whether it’s giving extra cuddles, playing their favorite games, or just making sure they feel at home, I put my heart into making every furry friend feel special and loved I’m going into my senior year at the University of Miami and have a flexible schedule with mostly night classes and no classes on Fridays. That gives me plenty of time during the day to care for pets, go on long walks, or just spend quality time making sure they feel loved and happy. My university is pet friendly, so when I’m not in class, I love taking study breaks to walk dogs or play with them —it’s the best way to break up my day and keeps me and the pups happy! Pet care is truly the highlight of my routine, and I always make time for it. When I’m walking dogs or house sitting at a client’s home, I always make sure to follow the routine their dogs are most comfortable with depending on what their owners tell me! I know how important it is for pets to feel safe and stick to their normal schedule, especially when their family is away. I make sure they get plenty of time to play, walk, and get their energy out, along with lots of love and attention so they never feel lonely. My goal is to keep them happy, loved, and relaxed until their family comes home!

“Stephanie is the best. She house-sat and took great care of our senior Chihuahua and cat for 5 days while my wife and I were out of town. She texted me photos of our pets, along with updates. All my anxiety about leaving my pets with someone new went away immediately. Thanks Stephanie!”

Coral Gables pet parents share their Rover experiences
Peter was great. Lola, my dog, seemed very happy and well taken care of. My neighbors told me that he was frequently in the park with her and she got to chase her tennis ball with dog friends. It wasn't necessary, but he left the house cleaner than I had. I would definitely contact Peter again.

Mohammad was great, he showed up early and stayed later than originally agreed upon in order to accommodate our schedule that changed. He sent several pictures and also FaceTime and took great care of both of our dogs. We will definitely use his services again. We had never used a dog sitter before so we were quite nervous but it was a very pleasant experience. Highly recommend.

Best dog sitter and person ever!! Luz, is amazing. Sweet, detailed, trustworthy. caring and loving. There are not enough words to describe how amazing she was. She stayed in our house for a week and not only did she take care of the dogs who are our babies but our house was in total perfect condition. Not only will continue to work with Luz but we can’t recommend her enough!

Javier was phenomenal! He took care of our two cats for five days overnight and we could not be happier with how everything went. His communication was amazing. He consistently sent us pictures and videos, and kept us updated on everything that came up. It gave us total peace of mind knowing they were in such great hands. We’ll definitely be booking him again in the future. Thank you so much, Javier!

Eric was amazing with my two pups. The original sitter notified me less than 8 hours before my flight she couldn’t babysit my boys. Eric responded immediately to my inquiry and got on a call with me to go over their needs. My Theo is very shy and anxious and particularly doesn’t like men. But with patience and treats he warmed up to Eric. He did such a great job and saved my trip.

Stephanie was wonderful with Simba during his two-day stay! She sent us regular updates and photos, which really gave us peace of mind. We’re so grateful for the care she provided and would definitely trust her with Simba again in the future. Highly recommend!

Sandy was an amazing sitter for my dog. She arrived right on time and from the very beginning showed so much love and experience with pets. My dog felt calm, happy, and completely at ease with her — no signs of anxiety at all, which says everything to me. I could tell he was in great hands. I felt so confident leaving him with Sandy, and I would absolutely hire her again a thousand times. Highly recommended!

Jenna took care of my two cats for a week, and I can't recommend her enough!! My cats were immediately comfortable with her when she came to meet them before I left. She sent daily photos and updates, was attentive to potential issues around the apartment while I was away, and was always quick to respond to my messages. Overall an amazing experience for me and for the boys!

Megan exceeded expectations. We didn’t have much time to find a sitter to come stay at our place. Megan responded quickly and we set up a meet and greet right away. Our pup got along well with her relaxed little pup. Megan sent pics every day to out us at ease. We felt extremely comfortable with her and our pup seemed very happy as well. Could not have been more pleased.

There isn’t enough words that I can think of to describe how amazing the quality of care that Katherine provided for my pup Apollo! I usually have a close friend of mine dog sit my pup but due to last minute change of schedule my friend couldn’t dog sit my pup so I was in a bit of pickle and I had to find care for my pup before a trip I had coming in less than 48hours and did not want to leave my pup in a boarding facility since he gets stressed if he’s not at home with someone. I remembered I had downloaded Rover a while back and I came across Katherine’s profile and read her reviews and saw her stellar rating and decided to take a chance. SHE SURPASSED ALL MY EXPECTATIONS! She not only provided an amazing quality of care but she became my pups new best friend! So much so that my dog even got a little sad when she left. Katherine was attentive, sent me pictures and updates of how my dog was doing the pictures really showed me how happy he was and it was beyond comforting to see that especially since I usually don’t travel without him. If I could provide a 10 Star rating I would! Katherine even went above and beyond to make sure my home was impeccable for Apollo. I will always reach out to her from now on whenever I need to travel. Again, AMAZING experience and I’m thankful now that I can count on someone that I can trust will provide amazing care for my pup while I’m away.
