“It was great to have John stay in our house and watch our dear Dora for a week while we were out of town. He kept us in the loop throughout the stay and was a great guest and dog sitter.”

“Lori went above and beyond!. She came over ahead of time to meet our dogs and spent an hour with us to let them get comfortable with her. One of our guys has severe stranger anxiety, and even though he never warmed up to her, she never stopped trying. She got along great with our other two guys, gave them lots of love and sent us pictures while we were gone. She left the house clean, washed the sheets on the bed and did many things that we said were okay to just leave alone. We would definitely ask Lori back, if she would come back for us!”

“My husband and I one hundred percent recommend Nishat! She was communicative, professional but personable, and very quick to respond when my husband and I were desperately making last minute sitting plans for our big pup Oliver and cat Dexter! At the meet and greet, it was immediately clear that Nishat is an animal lover and during the few days she took care of our fur babies, the pictures and videos she sent made it clear our little ones were in safe and loving hands! Thank you, Nishat! Whatever pets and pet parents you take care of are lucky to have you!”

“Julie is the best sitter I have ever had, and I have had many sitters. My dogs were calm and happy when I got home. They clearly got lots of attention. She responds to texts immediately and sends lots of great photos. My house is always spotless when I get home. I used her many times and she is always on point.”

“Ryan was great in all areas. He took wonderful care of our dog, Butters. From handling medications and feeding, to going on walks, we were very happy with Ryan’s approach. He is a strong communicator and very friendly. He also kept the house very clean while we were away. We greatly appreciate his help and would be happy to use his services again!”

About: I have been taking care of cats, dogs, hamsters, and fish for as long as I can remember. Family and friends trust me to look after and care for their pets while they’re away. This includes feeding, walking, play with, and bathing. My schedule varies and is flexible. I am able to walk and care for your pet(s) in the morning and evening, and often times mid day. I am comfortable looking after your furry friends in your home. I can stop by for a visit or stay the night with them, whatever you would prefer.
“Brook is AMAZING! Super sweet, great communication and she took the BEST care of my sweet kitty Lily, who loved her! Brook will be our go-to from now on — so grateful to her!”

About: I have been a loving dog owner since I was born and the type of person you will always find petting various animals. I have been pet sitting and dog walking since I was nearly 10 years old and love every minute of it! I currently work three long days a week at the hospital, which are different each week, which, for the most part means I’m only available for your animals on my days off. Special exceptions may be worked out during overnight stays where I have time before and after work. On the plus side, my days off are very flexible! As per your preferences and the animal’s specificities, I would make sure to keep up their daily routines as well as keep them fed, watered, clean, and happy!
“Rachael absolutely crushed it. As someone with senior dogs who have specific preferences and routines (also are high-maintenance as heck), I’m very picky about their care when I’m not around. Rachael was communicative, gave updates unprompted and responded super quickly whenever I reached out. She was able to take on staying at my place with my 2 cats and 3 dogs on very short notice as well. I can’t say enough good things, 11/10”

“Kari did a wonderful job caring for our dog, Butters! She took care of his medical needs and was very good at communication, providing us routine updates and photos. She also left the house clean, which was greatly appreciated. We would be happy to have Kari back to help us out in the future and highly recommend her!”

“Samantha provided such great care and companionship for our dog Zola that I’m not sure Zola will want us back! Lots of walks and playtime, interspersed with quiet and down time, seemed the perfect formula. Samantha took great care of our home, too, and followed our instructions to a T. Thanks so much!”

About: I have always loved both dogs and cats since I was a kid! I have been around dogs since I was little and I live with a cat now! I would adore taking your furry friend for a walk or checking up on your cat when you are away. I am currently trying to fit dog walking into my schedule in the mornings before my job starts (STARTING IN MAY). I can also check up on your furry friend in the evening. I am also building my online business so days I am not at my other job are more flexible! I am very good at directions and pay attention to details. I will follow the directions left by the owners when doing a check in! I listen to the pet, and if they are not so sure of me, I let them come to me (especially with cats!) And of course there will be lots of pets!
About: I have a dog of my own and have been dog sitting for friends for years. I’m not afraid to give meds and clean up messes. More than happy to help :) Unfortunately , I’m currently working part time Door Dashing and as a traveling hairstylist and need to make more money. I’ve definitely got time to help :) My dog gets a daily allergy pill in the morning before his 10min walk. I clean his ears once a week … unfortunately, he’s prone to ear infections so I have to keep a close eye on them.
“Elise was SO fantastic with our super shy guy Leon. He usually takes awhile to warm up to new people, but they were cuddling and going on walks super quick! She took great care of him, took him on tons of walks, and even cleaned our house before she left. Above and beyond - definitely will be using Elise again!”

“I can’t recommend Heather highly enough. She was so sweet with our dogs and very thorough during our initial meeting. While we were out of town, she stayed at our house and went above and beyond caring for babies and our space- she vacuumed at the end of her stay and even shoveled our deck, both without being asked. Each day we were gone, Heather sent us multiple photos and updates. We would book with her again in a heartbeat!”

“Celine was a very gracious sitter, taking her time with our pets and giving them the patience they needed while we were out of town. It was our first time having someone sit over and she's set the bar extremely high! Thank you again, Celine!”

“Lynne was absolutely wonderful while housesitting for our very picky and high needs cat. I had zero worries while we were away and Winnie was treated like the princess she thinks she is. Highly, highly recommend Lynne for your pet sitting needs!”

About: Have had a wonderful cockapoo for nearly 6 years. I have perfected my art of walking and if schedules align would love to bring your dog along too! Usually available before 7am then 930-3pm and again in the late evening if needed. Caring for my own dog and family and when possible your dog, too! I have a very dog friendly home for my dog. I use a leash in my own yard for my dog. If working in another persons home I would respect their rules and expectations on caring for their dog.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Cape Elizabeth
Alina was excellent. We have two dogs who have different needs and personalities and she took excellent care of both. Alina was very communicative, asking questions as they arose and sending regular updates. She left our home cleaner than we left it. Dogs got regular long walks and seemed happier than ever when we returned!

Lindsay is very sweet and responsible. My Louie went right up to her and sat on her feet when she came in. That’s his sign of respect and feeling comfortable with her.She took him out for a walk and I could tell he enjoyed his time with her. I highly recommend her and look forward to having her back soon

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Cape Elizabeth walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Cape Elizabeth maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Cape Elizabeth choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Cape Elizabeth. On Rover:
- 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
