“I am one of those people who are over protective of my dogs and admittedly nervous leaving them with someone I don’t know but I am now living in a city that I don’t really know anyone well. Samantha was great, she came to meet my dogs a few days before, I have a reactive border collie and she was very good and patient with him, he is also a senior as well as my Shorkie. I highly recommend Samantha, I will definitely use her again.”

“Joy watched our dog and house for 8 days and 7 nights. We received daily updates on everything which was so good to know everything was going good. When we came home everything was perfect and no surprises. I would highly recommend Joy to anyone looking for someone good with dogs and also house sitting.”

“I can't say enough amazing things about Angie. She sent me photos everyday I was away. I loved during our meet and greet that she brought a note book with her to take notes and no other pet sitter did that, it's why I picked her and that Wookie liked her. Angie was here for 11 days and my cat Wookie loves her. Angie is so sweet and caring. I really can't recommend her enough. I will always use Angie for my pet sitting needs.”

“Marilyn was an exceptionally patient and comforting stand in mom for our 16 year old partially deaf, mostly blind little Bichon Shitzu. In our 2 week absence she updated us and sent pictures almost every day which helped ease our anxiety about leaving her. With a nursing background Marilyn was at ease administering the 2 medications our little one needed. Highly recommended!!”

“Megan did a great job house/dog sitting for us for 4 days. She responded promptly to my inquiry about her availability and we had no trouble setting a time for the meet and greet. One of our dogs is quite shy and was quite wary of her but she didn't push him and he did warm up to her. I think he was looking for her this morning. Our over-the-top friendly dog had more than enough cuddles. She left the house cleaner than when we left it and she did poo pick up in the yard even though we did not ask her to. We will be repeat customers.”

About: I have plenty of experience housesitting for friends and looking after my own doggies. I love gardening and endeavour to keep plants happy. I like keeping my environment clean and tidy, and am more than happy to run any errands that are required in the owner's absence (e.g. scheduled grooming for pets, routine checkups, putting bins out etc.). I have volunteered with DRU (local animal shelter) in the past as part of the bird and chicken team - poultry are full on! This gave me more experience in administering medication (to peacocks!), cleaning animals and identifying any issues, and cleaning out pens and enclosures. I’m currently based in Calgary - I am available for morning and afternoon check ins and walks on weekdays and weekends, as I work remotely on weekdays between 8pm and midnight. I try to make sure pets keep to their routines! Having their families go away is stressful enough. I like to have a fair amount of info on your pets behaviours, routines, and things they like to do so they can be as comfortable as can be in your absence.

“Michelle is not only warm and friendly, she had an instant connection with our really anxious dog. She ensured he had lots of things to do, took him out everywhere and sent us regular updates and pics. Recommend Michelle 100%.”

“Saoirse was absolutely wonderful. She was kind and charming right off the bat, and then when with my Annie she was in touch frequently with the sweetest messages and pictures and updates. I was really nervous about hiring someone I didn’t know but Saoirse was so great that I didn’t feel any concern leaving Annie in her care.”

“Thank you Kat for taking such great care of our boys! Amazing communication and loads of updates gave us peace of mind while we were far away. It was very clear that our dogs were being loved and cared for just as we would!”

About: My family have had dogs my whole life but since moving out alone I do not have any. I have been training dogs since I could walk and miss having furry companions around. I am a student, mostly I am available on weekends or around class times Monday-Thursday. Most of the day I am available, evenings and weekends can always be cleared for a furry friend! I am happy to stick to whatever routine you have with your pets such as if you choose to crate your pets or if they roam free, I will do what works best for them and for you. If you have instructions, I have no problems following them
“Zoe took great care of our Jasper and our home. She graciously got his pills into him even when he was a grump and she sent lots of updates and pictures to keep us in the loop while we were away.”

“Catherine was great. Our 2 dogs and cat loved her. She was very communicative and sent tons of pictures, which our daughter loved. Definitely will book her again.”

“We had another sitter cancel Last minute and David was able To help us out with watching our dogs. We use another dog sitting website and ended up with no sitter. David came over a week before we left to ensure he could watch our dogs and it was a good fit. We have a young puppy too and he was very accommodating. We also liked that david stayed most of time at home With the dogs to train The puppy. Our house was also clean when we came home and had daily pictures and a video sent. It was very easy to communicate. We recommend david for Sure.”

“Naomi is amazing! She is everything you want in someone coming to stay at your house with your fur babies! She is a great communicator, sending updates and pics along the way. She is very loving to the animals and engages with them - taking for walks, playing in the backyard and even teaching new tricks! Highly recommend!”

“This was a last minute booking and we very much appreciate Tina’s/Jeremy’s flexibility. Tina loves our Willow and Willow feels great after seeing her. We will continue to use Tina in the future!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - St. Albert
We are so thankful for having Megan take care of our dogs and our house while we were away. She sent pictures and daily updates on how our dogs were doing. Our house was clean and tidy when we got home. Our dogs seemed happy and were not stressed at all by our absence.
This was the first time I left Oso with someone who is nor family and I was so reassured and put at ease with Valentina. She kept mostly to hus usual schedule and spent time with him! He seemed happy when I got back! She also was super helpful with and issue with the house that saved me having to cancel my trip! I know my Oso woukd def ha g out with her again!

We are sooooooo happy Erica was petsitting for us! We felt so safe knowing she was taking care of our pets. She did an absolutely fantastic job, sending updates and photos and always responding quickly to any questions. Our cat had a vet visit just prior to us going on vacation and Erica was great giving her the meds while we were away also. This is the first time we've used a pet sitter and we're so happy we found Erica. Much better for our animals staying in their own home, and the quality of care Erica provides is exceptional! Our dog was looking for her when we came home! Our flight was delayed on the last part of our journey home, and Erica kept in constant contact to make sure our pets would still be looked after if we weren't able to get back the same day. We highly recommend Erica, and would absolutely book her pet sitting services again! Thank you, Erica for looking after our pets as though they were your own. We're so grateful for the care and attention you gave our pets. They miss you already!

What a gem!! Sydney did an outstanding job taking care of our pets, her love of animals is apparent from the onset. She was very helpful with ensuring they had lots of exercise and kept to their routine. Sydney is very reliable, trustworthy, and was excellent with communication and photos!! We feel so fortunate to have finally connected with Sydney, knowing that our future travel will be worry-free.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in St. Albert maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred St. Albert walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in St. Albert choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 94% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
