“Joy watched our two beagles for us overnight while we had our wedding, we’ve never left our dogs home alone over night with anyone but family before but Joy made us feel so at ease. The dogs love her so much, and she sent multiple check ins with a bunch of photos as well. It made my wedding day so much more at ease knowing my fur babies were well taken care of. HIGHLY recommend, she’s amazing! 🤍”

“Being a pet sitters ourselves, we get very picky when it is time to choose someone to take care of our pets and we were very fortunate to meet Megan. Our first impressions were great and the pet sitting itself even greater. Her patience with my super forward Golden Retriever and my grumpy Ragdoll impressed us as well as her care for the our home. We are already booking other dates with her. Thank you again, Megan!”

“Marilyn was an exceptionally patient and comforting stand in mom for our 16 year old partially deaf, mostly blind little Bichon Shitzu. In our 2 week absence she updated us and sent pictures almost every day which helped ease our anxiety about leaving her. With a nursing background Marilyn was at ease administering the 2 medications our little one needed. Highly recommended!!”

“Saoirse was absolutely wonderful. She was kind and charming right off the bat, and then when with my Annie she was in touch frequently with the sweetest messages and pictures and updates. I was really nervous about hiring someone I didn’t know but Saoirse was so great that I didn’t feel any concern leaving Annie in her care.”

“Angie was amazing! She was very patient and accommodating with our anxious dog Mitzi and gave her so much love and attention. It was clear Angie really loves spending time with dogs and did a wonderful job caring for Mitzi. She also had great communication with us during the trip and sent us lots of updates, photos and videos. Would definitely rehire and recommend!”

“Noami did an incredible job with Budd. He can be challenging to walk and keep entertained, but she had no problem adjusting and being resourceful. She worked with him way more than I'd expect, even teaching him a new trick! She was straightforward about her needs, in contact easily, and he obviously really likes her. Plus, I think my house is cleaner now than when I left.”

“Katherine took such good care of our dog and our house, it was such a relief for us and made our holiday more relaxing knowing everything was in good hands. She provided regular updates with pictures and went above and beyond to care for our dog and home. 100% recommend Katherine!”

“Our cats are normally afraid of new people but they instantly loved him and seemed like they barely noticed we were gone. Our cats needed a lot of dedicated care and Ren was super accommodating and met all of their needs while we were gone and even went above and beyond to ensure the house was clean when we got back.”

“Michelle was so great with our little girl. This was our first longer trip away and Michelle kept us up to date with regular communication, pictures and videos. She kept our pup happy and secure at home. Highly recommend!”

“Janessa was incredible with our dog and two cats! Our dog loved her right away and we knew our pets were going to be in good hands! We came back to a nice and clean home, she had even done the dishes and laundry!! Can’t recommend her enough!! 🥰”

“Catherine watched our three pups while out of town for a hockey tournament. She sent lots of photos and videos and kept us updated on how they were doing. They're normally super excited to see us when we get home but based on the attention they got from Catherine, it's like we never left. We wouldn't hesitate to book with Catherine again and definitely will.”

“We are first time user of Rover and were a little bit nervous but Julia rocked! Nikki was very well looked after. Julia was conscientious about looking after him, sending us pictures and videos of him. She was very flexible about looking after him when our return flights got delayed, and she stayed longer than we initially planned, which was a great relief. Our home was neat as a pin when we returned.”

“We were so thankful to have Ava housesit our dog Buddy and cat Bear while we were away for a few days! She was very kind, her communication was excellent, and she obviously cares a lot about animals and making your pets feel loved. Will absolutely book her again and would recommend her to anyone else!”
“Lori went above and beyond taking care of my cat and dog for 2.5 weeks in our house. My animals were very well taken care of, and she was great at messaging. I was very happy that I got daily photos or videos of them! When I come back my house was immaculate. I would recommend her and will for sure book her again!”

About: While I haven’t had my own dog. I have taken care of my fathers dogs and my mother in laws. I have administered needles for a diabetic senior dog as well. I am a stay at home mom currently and have two children in school. I can stop by your house right after their drop off. Can go visit your animals during the evening as well. Your pets safety and comfort are my top priority. I treat every animal in my care with the same patience and attentiveness I would want for my own animals. I have experience administering medications and injections (for diabetic pets) I am very comfortable following medical and feeding instructions.

About: I grew up with animals since a young age, my family always had dogs and every summer I’d spend months out at my godmother’s farm helping take care of all kinds of animals including a barn full of cats. Professionally I was employed as a groomer/doggy daycare attendant so im well versed in handling animals of all sizes and temperaments! Currently between jobs just trying to make ends meet in a way that brings joy and allows others to know their babies are safe at home while they’re out living life. I’m recently unemployed so I’ve got nothing but time on my hands! I enjoy going for daily walks on my own so I would have no problem having a pet join me on my day. Following whatever guidelines they have set up for their pets! I will hang out with them and take good care of them no matter where we are!

We are sooooooo happy Erica was petsitting for us! We felt so safe knowing she was taking care of our pets. She did an absolutely fantastic job, sending updates and photos and always responding quickly to any questions. Our cat had a vet visit just prior to us going on vacation and Erica was great giving her the meds while we were away also. This is the first time we've used a pet sitter and we're so happy we found Erica. Much better for our animals staying in their own home, and the quality of care Erica provides is exceptional! Our dog was looking for her when we came home! Our flight was delayed on the last part of our journey home, and Erica kept in constant contact to make sure our pets would still be looked after if we weren't able to get back the same day. We highly recommend Erica, and would absolutely book her pet sitting services again! Thank you, Erica for looking after our pets as though they were your own. We're so grateful for the care and attention you gave our pets. They miss you already!

What a gem!! Sydney did an outstanding job taking care of our pets, her love of animals is apparent from the onset. We feel so fortunate to have finally connected with Sydney, knowing that our future travel will be worry-free.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in St. Albert maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred St. Albert walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in St. Albert choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 94% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
