“Darlene is great at what she does. She has taken care of our home and pets twice now, and we love her. She updates us as needed. She takes care of the place and leaves no foot print. We are so lucky too have known her, and will continue to hire her services. Our dogs love her.”

“Ava was amazing with my two boys. She provided frequent updates along with photos. Having a dog with some special needs takes a special person to be willing to take that on and Ava rose to the occasion. I was put at ease knowing they were getting great care. Thank you Ava!”

“As always, Samana was so great with Ellie. I was just gone for a few hours, but Ellie was happy to have someone to hang around with and shower her with attention! I came home to a very happy pup!”

“Was a pleasure meeting Pam and having her care for our dogs was the best decision. They were so comfortable with her right away. She took wonderful care of them and our home. My dogs have a new best friend. Not sure if they even minded we were gone. We will definitely choose Pam to care for our fur babies in the future without hesitation.”

“What a godsend Nicholas was for our pups! Our trip away had stressful events, but the care of Pepper and Layla back home wasn’t one. It is clear that Nick adores the company of dogs, and our pups felt the same about him. Also, he could easily handle the 170 lbs of dogs for walks; that is a rare quality in dog sitters. He was communicative, and sent photo and video updates. We will definitely hire Nicholas again.”

“Brooke was absolutely wonderful with our pets, I could tell she loved them and they loved her. As a concerned "parent to my babies" I had reservations about leaving Millie and Ella with someone as they are only a year old and I haven't been away from them much. My husband and I also work from home so our pets are really never alone. Brooke stayed in our home, listened to our concerns, read all our directions, reported to us daily and was very professional and caring. First time using Rover and Brooke, I give them both 5 stars.”

“Jasmine was great with my two dogs!!! She attended to Clovers emotional needs, while managing Rudys behavioral needs as a young dog. She provided me pictures and updates which made me feel more secure in leaving the two of them at home while I had a work trip.”

“Emily was so awesome with my Groot. It was his first time having anyone that is not me stay with him. And she did a fantastic job. 10/10 service. I will definitely use this service and Emily again. Thank you for taking such good care of my Groot.”

“Deliah is very professional, reliable, personable and most importantly excellent with animals. My dogs adored her, they were walked, played with and cuddled of course! Having Deliah house stirring my pups allowed me to go on my business trip with total peace of mind! I totally recommend Deliah should you need house sitting!”

“Janessa took great care of my reactive dog and 2 cats while I had an emergency trip! I knew that my apartment was also well cared for! Very proactive, honest, and my pets were happy when I returned home. Thank you!”

“We are so luckily to have met Danica! Our fur baby can be quite reactive and not do well with strangers. But with Danica's love, patience and expertise for animals our dog Mowgli had no issues with her. She took it super slow with him and made sure to watch for any clues that Mowgli wasn't comfortable and by the second night Mowgli was already snuggling with her feet! Can't wait to book her again soon.”

“Sara was great. I had a few changes to my itinerary and she was very accommodating. Charlie hung out with her the whole time and he was very happy with her. My house looked the same as when I left. I will definitely contact Sara next time I have to be away from home.”

“Kyla watched our 130lb Cane Corse Blue for 2 nights in our house. She went above and beyond, contacting me and sending photos she took of Blue. Her knowledge in dog care came in handy when she noticed blood on the floor due to a bloody paw. She contacted me right away, identifying that he had a hot spot (which I had not heard of before) and let me know she had already taken care of cleaning his paw for us. Blue was in the best hands with Kyla and she will be the first contact I go to when booking another dog sitter. What a relief knowing your loved one is in such great care! Thanks again Kyla! :)”

“Robbin made herself available on short notice to take care of our two dogs. She was responsive and we returned home to happy dogs and a tidy house. We definitely will contact Robbin for future dogsitting.”

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Devon maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Devon walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Devon choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 94% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
