“John has watched my cat twice now, and he's been wonderful both times. We did a meet & greet beforehand, which made everything smooth. He's super thorough and communicative — always on time, sends lots of photos and updates, and even asks before doing anything he's unsure about. He doesn't just do the basics (food, water, litter box); he goes the extra mile, like vacuuming up stray litter and playing with my cat. My cat is usually shy, but he warmed up to John quickly. Reliable, careful, and genuinely caring. Highly recommend!”

“I'm so glad I found Ariana! I moved for a new job with a demanding, unpredictable schedule, and she’s been an absolute lifesaver. She's kind, attentive and truly cares about my animals' individual needs. She took all my requests seriously and always goes above and beyond with her updates, which gives me real peace of mind while I’m at work. I’ve already referred her to a friend who’s just as happy, and I’m a repeat client myself. I can't recommend her enough!”

“Ariana has been a fantastic petsitter, a true companion to our cat during our long vacation. On our return, we found that our cat looks healthy, energetic and in a good mood, which tells me she received very good care, quality interactions and play time. The litter box was clean, and even the floor around the box had no sand. Ariana was consistent in her visits. I highly recommend her to any cat owner.”

About: Hello, I am an active individual who likes being out in nature and exploring the local outdoor areas. I would enjoy the opportunity to help care for your pet and would enjoy the company as well. I am employed full time as a PhD student at Cornell and am seeking a side job that I could enjoy as much as my current job. I live by myself in a quiet, smoke-free home with no other animals or children. I am in a pedestrian-friendly area with excellent scenery for walking. Because much of my work schedule is flexible, I will have time throughout the day to take care and spend time with your pet. I also have more availability on weekends. As an animal lover, I like to interact with dogs through play (tossing a ball, playing tug-of-war with a toy, running around outside) and relaxing with them and giving them pets.

“We can not say enough about Madison! If you are looking for someone to check in on your 4 legged best friend and treat them like their own, then Madison is the one! She is 100% dedicated to taking care Baxter during the day while we are at work. Takes him out to potty, playtime outside and/or inside, even a little bit of training and back out for another potty break before leaving him in his crate. Her report cards and pictures are so detailed about their time together and any helpful tips or information about Baxter. You can tell she has a true love for our furry pup! Baxter just loves her and we can’t imagine having anyone else! 🐶❤️🐾”

About: I’ve been taking care of dogs and cats my whole life but only sitting for 4 years! I love animals and am always looking forward to learning more. I’m a Cornell student and only have classes for 4 hours M-Th. With this schedule it is easy to take pets on walks, drop by and check on them, and make sure they get all the care and attention they deserve! I always leave things the way I found them if not better! Including living spaces and animals. I always want to make sure I keep someone’s area clean and make sure I keep someone’s animal safe and happy while with me!

About: I have had dogs my entire life and have grown up in Ann Arbor, Michigan (go blue😉)! I’ve trained all my families dogs, have never hired a trainer. I have also pet sat for neighbours and family friends, and for extended periods of time. Cant wait to meet your little babies :) As a graduate student at Cornell, my schedule gives me flexibility throughout the week to incorporate pet care into my routine. I’m available for morning and evening visits, walks, and check-ins, as well as additional availability on weekends. I’m happy to work with each pet’s established routine and can plan my schedule in advance to make sure they receive consistent, reliable care. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I make it a priority to follow their normal routine as closely as possible so they feel comfortable and secure. I carefully follow instructions for feeding, walks, medications if needed, playtime, and any other specific needs. I’ll make sure they get plenty of attention and exercise, keep their space clean and comfortable, and provide regular updates and photos so you know how your pet is doing while you’re away.

About: I can't remember a moment in my life when I haven't been surrounded by animals, I grew up in a neighborhood full of dogs and my household was always full of cats. I wasn't a stranger to keeping the peace between the two. I now own both a dog and a cat, they definitely keep me busy! I am used to walking/ running with larger dogs so keeping up and gaining control of them will never be an issue, the pros of being a student athlete! My favorite part of day is coming home and seeing my pets! I'm more available in the early morning, evening or on weekend. I try my best to work with your schedule so this runs as smooth as possible without interference or interrupting your daily life and business! I try my best to spend time with my animals when I can, though my cat tends to ignore me, he still gets all the pets and cuddles he deserves!

About: I’ve dedicated my life to caring for animals and helping their families feel confident while they’re away. I’ve many years of hands-on experience with animals of all ages, sizes, personalities, and needs. What began with a love of caring for my own pets and helping family and friends grew into professional pet sitting goals. Working for Rover is a great way to care for pets through their trusted brand until I get my own small business going, on top of my rescue and advocacy efforts. My experience goes well beyond basic feeding and walks. I’ve cared for puppies, energetic young dogs, senior pets, large breeds, cats, multiple-pet households, and animals requiring extra patience or special attention. I’m comfortable administering medications, following detailed care instructions, and caring for injured or recovering animals, so you can feel reassured that your pet’s individual needs will be carefully followed. I’ve also cared for horses, goats, chickens, ducks, and other farm animals, livestock and more! Over the years, I’ve helped animals that were lost, injured, neglected, or simply needed someone to care, including personally rescuing and nursing animals back to health. I've organized and run fundraising events for non-profit animal organizations, volunteered much of my time at shelters and behavioral therapy and training spaces. I have a special place in my heart for animals who need an advocate, and I’m committed to providing them with patient, compassionate support. I believe excellent pet care means noticing the little things. I pay close attention to behavior, body language, appetite, routines, and changes that could indicate a pet isn’t feeling like themselves. I take time to learn each animal’s personality and provide the affection, exercise, playtime, patience, or quiet companionship they need to feel safe and comfortable while their family is away. I also keep families informed so they can enjoy greater peace of mind throughout their time apart. I understand the trust involved in inviting a pet sitter into your home. I treat every client’s home, belongings, privacy, and personal space with the utmost respect, striving to leave your home just as you left it—or better. You can feel confident knowing your pets are receiving personalized, attentive care and your home is in responsible hands. I’m currently completing my Pet First Aid and CPR certification, insured and bonded through Rover (as well as having my own insurance through PCI), and committed to continuing my pet-care education. Whether I’m caring for a rambunctious puppy, a senior who needs a gentler pace, or a pet who misses their person, my goal is to provide dependable, safe, and compassionate care tailored to each animal while giving you the reassurance you deserve. Pet care is already a natural part of my daily life and something I intentionally make time for. My priority is providing dependable, attentive care for all animals entrusted to me. I plan my days carefully around each pet’s established routine, including feeding times, walks, potty breaks, medications, playtime, companionship, and any special instructions their family provides. I understand how important consistency can be, especially for senior pets, puppies, pets taking medication, or animals who may feel anxious when their family is away. Because caring for animals is a priority in my schedule rather than an afterthought, I can give each pet the time and attention they deserve. I also allow time for updates and photos so you can feel connected to your pets and confident that they’re happy, safe, and well cared for while you’re away. That includes feeding, fresh water, walks and potty breaks, medications, playtime, exercise, and plenty of affection or quiet companionship—whatever makes your pet happiest and most secure. I pay close attention to behavior, appetite, energy level, and anything that seems unusual. Safety is always a priority, including securely checking doors, gates, leashes, and the home before I leave. I also provide updates and photos so you can relax knowing how your pets are doing while you’re away. Just as importantly, I understand that I’m a guest in your home. About: With over 10 years of experience, I am comfortable with all kinds of animals and temperaments - big dogs, angry kitties, stubborn puppies, and anxious pets. I can also give meds if needed and make sure your pet stays safe, calm, and cared for like they’re my own. No matter their personality, I’ve got them covered 😊 I am currently in school but it is strictly online, however I do work a serving job as well (usually short 5 hour shifts). Send me a message and we will see if our schedules work! I have 1 cat and 1 dog of my own at home who are the most spoiled babies ever! Most importantly, I am a firm believer in all things safety. I worked with horses for over 10 years so I know how important it is to follow the instructions I have been given. I may be small, but I am mighty! I can handle big dogs, mean cats, and fresh horses! I am more than happy to change any of my procedures to accommodate your fur baby, just ask!

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.

You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.

Before booking, confirm:

  • the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
  • the care instructions the sitter should follow;
  • which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
  • how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.

Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.

The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.

If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.

Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.

During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first .

sitters on Rover set their own , which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.

Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
