“Amy was so wonderful! She left us such detailed notes and sent lots of pictures, and it was such a relief knowing our dogs were in such good hands while we were away! Wouldn’t hesitate to hire her again!”

“I was nervous leaving my cat Bowie for our first trip away, and I think Bowie was a little nervous at first too, but they quickly became good friends! Nicole was super communicative throughout our trip, and we truly felt like we had left Bowie with a trusted friend. It gave us so much peace of mind. We will 100% be booking with Nicole again!”

About: I currently work at the Newport Navy Base at All Paws On Deck doggie day care. I have been there for about a year and am currently one of the lead staff members there taking care of the dogs. I have learned so much on dog behavior and safety. Since working there it has ignited an interest to become a dog trainer. The joy that dogs bring to my life has been so rewarding and I love every minute of my job and being with all my furry friends. I have grown up with always having a dog in my life and had parents that instilled responsibility that came along with it. I have watched and been responsible for friends and neighbors dogs when a helping hand is needed. My up bringing with always having a dog was that they are not just an animal but another member of the family and have to be treated as such. I have been very lucky to have had grown up with amazing dogs. I have rescued 2 beautiful greyhounds that were former racers in Florida. This particular breed is my passion due to the challenges it gives to teach them how to transition from the track to home life. This breed typically has never been inside a home and needs to be taught everything! Stairs, Windows, glass sliding doors, furniture, a yard, trust, and having her own toys and bed. This has taught me so much on how to relate to the dog and learn how they see life. My life currently when im not working is spending time with my family and enjoying the "island life" in Portsmouth. It is my husband and I along with our two boys and Anita (my greyhound). I work part time at the doggie day care. My availability time is flexible. I work half days so im available in the morning or afternoon depending on the day. I will respect the clients home and their pets boundaries and needs. I see it as entering their safe space and would not want them to feel that I am there to change that or threaten that.
“Ixia was absolutely wonderful with our Pointer/Pit mix, Crimson. This was our first time using Rover, and our first time leaving our dog for an extended period of time. (We had to take a trip out of state on short notice.) From the get-go, Ixia was very professional and attentive during our phone consultation - taking notes, checking details, learning the little intricacies of Crimson's routines. Crimson also has a torn ACL, so special care has to be taken during daily activities to ensure the injury doesn't worsen. Ixia was very reliable, responsive, and communicative with us the entire time. She was on time for every visit, sent us pictures of our pup, played with her, spent lots of time in the yard, and even went above and beyond to accommodate some extra drop-ins we hadn't originally planned. We were very impressed and thankful for the loving care that she provided our animals and by her professionalism and communication. 11/10 recommend, and will definitely be reaching out to her again in the future. Thank you, Ixia!”

About: Dogs have been the heartbeat of my life for as long as I can remember. From my childhood pup who lived to be 17, to my first adult dog who gave me 16 years of unforgettable adventure, I have deep experience caring for canines at every stage of life—from playful puppies to gentle seniors. Currently, I’m the proud parent of two incredible doodles, Macchiato and Noisette. They are well-socialized daycare veterans who absolutely love welcoming new friends into our pack! After a rewarding 25-year career as a hairstylist, I am slowly pivoting to include my passion for detail and customer care toward pet care services. I can’t wait to treat your pups like family! With advanced notice, my schedule is incredibly flexible. When your pups are staying with me, their comfort and safety are my top priorities—I ensure they are never left alone for more than 4 to 5 hours at any time and provide tailored care to each dogs needs. To make things as convenient as possible for you, I also offer pickup and drop-off services. I proudly service the Aquidneck Island and East Bay communities, including Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth, Bristol, and Tiverton. Your pups will be treated exactly like members of my own family. I live on a spacious half-acre of fully fenced yard, offering plenty of room for your dogs to stretch their legs, zoom around, or just relax in the sun ( new PUP DECK coming soon). As a dedicated dog parent myself, I completely understand how tough it can be to leave your fur babies with someone else. That is why I am highly receptive to your specific routines, preferences, and instructions. I pride myself on being a clear communicator and highly dependable because I know that when it comes to your pets, trust is absolutely everything.
About: As a lifelong animal lover, I bring both reliability and genuine care to every pet I work with. I have experience caring for dogs and cats, and I’m especially comfortable with larger breeds and pets with unique personalities. I have my own 8-year-old chow-shepherd mix, so daily long walks, patience, and attentive care are already a huge part of my routine. I also have experience caring for senior pets and understand the importance of slower pacing, medication routines, mobility awareness, and extra comfort and patience. Whether your pet loves active walks, playtime, cuddles, or simply calm companionship, I tailor my care to their individual needs and personality. I’m dependable, observant, communicative, and committed to making sure your pets feel safe, loved, and comfortable while you’re away. Pet care fits very naturally into my routine since I already spend a lot of time walking and caring for my own dog every day. I genuinely enjoy being active, spending time outdoors, and giving animals attention and care, so incorporating pet care into my weekly schedule is something I truly look forward to. I adapt my care to each pet’s individual routine and needs to help them feel as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Whether that means long walks, playtime, feeding schedules, giving medicine, potty breaks, check-ins, cuddle time, or simply providing calm companionship, I’m happy to do it all! Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first .
