About: I've been caring for dogs since I was a teenager, and they've always held a special place in my life. I had my beloved dog, Chico, for 16 wonderful years before we eventually lost him to old age and health issues. Although he was small, he had a HUGE personality and was basically my sidekick. He went just about everywhere with me: dog parks, camping, hiking, beach adventures, road trips, and yes, probably more dog-friendly pubs than the average dog. 😂 At the beach, his absolute favorite activity was sniffing every single piece of driftwood like it contained critically important information. And after all those adventures, he was happiest snuggled up next to me under approximately 47 blankets. Caring for Chico through every stage of his life, from an energetic young pup all the way through his senior years, gave me firsthand experience with how much a dog's needs can change over time and how much love, patience, and companionship they deserve along the way. Over the years, I've also become the go-to person for friends and family when they need someone they trust with their dogs. I genuinely enjoy getting to know each pup's personality because, as any dog person knows, they ALL have one! After 16 years with Chico, our home definitely feels a little too quiet without a dog in it. Getting to welcome other people's pups into our lives and give them some of that love we've been missing is something my whole family really enjoys. So while you're away, there's a pretty good chance your dog will be getting spoiled with attention over here. 🐾 My schedule is very flexible, so I have plenty of time to spend with the pups in my care! My main daily routine is getting my kids to and from the bus stop, which is close enough that we can easily walk when needed. I'm home throughout most of the day, so pets in my care won't be spending long stretches of time alone. I have plenty of flexibility for boarding, daycare, walks, and drop-ins, and I'm excited to fill some of that extra time caring for new furry friends! Your pet's safety and comfort will always come first! In my home, pups are welcomed into our everyday family life and treated like one of our own. We have a spacious, fully fenced backyard where they can safely get outside throughout the day. We currently don't have any pets of our own after losing our beloved dog, Chico, after 16 wonderful years together. We definitely miss having a pup around and love getting the chance to give our furry guests all that extra love and attention while they're here! I'll follow your dog's feeding, medication, potty, sleeping, and other care instructions as closely as possible. I also understand that some dogs settle in immediately while others need a little extra time and space to feel comfortable, and I'm happy to follow their lead. When caring for pets in your home, I'll treat your home and your pet with the same respect and care I'd want someone to show mine. I'll follow your instructions closely and always make sure doors, gates, and other areas are secure. And of course, expect photo updates! I want you to be able to enjoy your time away knowing your pup is safe, comfortable, and well cared for.

My fiancé and I couldn’t be happier with Anna and the care she took of our sweet girl (A 4 year old pit bull). We knew when we adopted our dog, that she loved people but didn’t do well in a shelter environment or around other dogs. This has made leaving town a challenge due to limited options as we couldn’t board her or drop her at my parents’ house with our family dogs, as her well-being comes first. When I found Anna’s profile, she seemed too good to be true but she is real! She is the reason I signed up for Rover. She took excellent care of our girl and our home for 5 days while we were on vacation. It made such a difference knowing our dog could be comfortable and cared for in her own home with someone who is great with dogs. Our pup has some anxiety and quirks so we wanted someone caring and experienced — Anna is that person. Thank you, Anna. We all three hope to see you again soon.

Annette is amazing!! She watched our dogs in our home while we were away for a week - Great communication, photos of the pups, and helped with things around the house. Her schedule allowed her to be home almost all the time with them, which they appreciated .She clearly cares for the animals under her watch and we can't wait to have her come again!

Michael was fantastic!! We were on vacation for about ten days and I feel like we never had to worry the whole time and could enjoy our time away. Michael provided ample exercise and individual attention to our energetic and highly anxious pup and also gave our cat tons of playtime and cuddles. Our place was spotless when we came home! Would 100% recommend.

Penny was fabulous! We are first timers to Rover and were nervous trying out someone new. We have two big dogs and one mischievous cat, plus three garden spaces to water and a house to keep up. Penny tackled it all, no problems, handled all aspects of the job. The animals loved her and were all well taken care of. She gave medicine to our dog who has epilepsy twice a day and no issues there, such a relief! She was a joy to connect with , very social and friendly, and put us all at ease, she is a really nice person! We'll use her again in the future!

This was our first time using an in-home sitter for an extended stay and Valerie was absolutely amazing! She was so patient getting to know our pup ahead of the booking and took wonderful care of him. He has allergies and she was so great about helping him feel better, even asking about trying a few things she had done for her pets. Lasso can’t wait to hang out with Valerie again!

Highly recommend! Shalindra provided a week of in-home care for our two dogs, a guinea pig and a gecko. She was delightful to work with. The dogs took to her very quickly, and she was affectionately patient with their unique/opposite personalities. I especially appreciated her daily photo and video updates, and how careful she was to ask questions and provide details on anything happening at the house. I felt confident all was well cared-for, and was truly able to enjoy the time away because Shalindra had everything covered at home.

Robin was great!! My pup loved her and she was not at all intimidated by his high energy and ill-mannered behavior. She communicated with us before and during the stay, and sent pictures. Sherlock was entertained and she even was able to get my very picky eater to finish his dinner. I highly recommend her.

Pamela was wonderful with our pup "Rio!" He's normally a bit shy at first meetings but he took to her almost immediately. She was great at giving us daily photos, updates and even a lovely written "Rio Report" at the end of her stay. We had to reschedule our flight and Pamela was very accommodating when we had to return for one of the nights she was scheduled to stay over. Both times we arrived home to a very happy hound and tidy hearth.

FAQs for House Sitting - Waterman

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Waterman on Rover is $61.55 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of September 2026, there are 7,858 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Waterman. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Waterman walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Waterman maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Waterman choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Waterman. On Rover:

  • 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 95% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
