“I almost hate writing this review because then Jessica might get too busy to care for our dog. Jessica was fantastic! She took such good care of our dog. Loved on him. Played with him. Made sure he was not lonely or anxious. She sent regular updates and we felt blessed to know our boy was in great hands. Absolutely will not hesitate to use her services again and again. Thank you Jessica!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”

“We needed a sitter for our senior kitty but were hesitant to leave her with anyone she didn’t know, since she’d always been looked after by family and a close friend. This was our first experience with Rover, and we decided to try Chris after reading the great reviews he got. He took care of our girl over a long weekend while we were out of town, and we were completely reassured by the level of care and attention he gave her. He sent us updates and photos, letting us know how she was doing and how she was behaving, and was very attentive to her needs. He has cats himself, clearly loves them and was such a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Chris.”

“Really appreciated Melissa’s flexibility with figuring out our trip dates. She took great care of our pugs (we appreciated how clean their nose rolls were when we got back!).”
“Sarah is a wonderful person and did a awesome job house sitting with our two dogs. I highly recommend Sarah and will use her services in the future! Molly and Minnie loved her and seemed very happy to be around Sarah.”

About: I work remotely as a RN, which gives me flexibility to care for your animal and home during the day and night. I have 30 years experience with horses, dogs, cats, and a variety of other farm animals. I’m comfortable with care of puppies to seniors and those with medical needs. My typical day M-F has work meetings and projects. This allows for flexibility to play with your pet, offer snuggles, and get outside! Weekends are low key for me and can generally flex to make things work best for your needs. I currently don’t have any animals of my own and would love to focus on yours! If I’m house sitting and your pup or kitty likes field trips and mixing things up, and it’s appropriate, we may go on a safe adventure . We sometimes stop over to my place and hike the forest next door , or some other cool trail on the island , or perhaps hit the beach, or a dog friendly store for treats. Otherwise we stick to your neighborhood and routine.
“Robin was conscientious and attentive to Gilly and was willing to stay with Gilly in our home. Gilly had a good time and I felt comfortable leaving her with Robin for a week.”

“Eunice was amazing with my golden retriever puppy! She took care of all her needs and showered her with plenty of love and attention. Communication and photo updates were provided as well to show how much fun my little pup was having. Eunice was quick to respond and I appreciate her accomodating my last-minute request. Looking forward to next time!”

About: I have experience caring for pets of all sizes, breeds, and personalities. I’ve cared for animals for family, friends, and neighbors, including feeding, walking, bathing, and providing daily care. I’m comfortable handling energetic or shy personalities. I’ve also cared for disabled dogs, which taught me the importance of patience, awareness, and building trust with pets that need extra support. I always focus on making sure pets feel safe, comfortable, and well cared for in any environment. I treat every animal like my own and pay close attention to their individual needs and routines. I’m also very communicative and will send regular updates and photos so you feel confident your pet is in good hands. I’m currently building my pet care business, so I have a flexible schedule and can dedicate plenty of time and attention to pets in my care. I’m available for dog walking, drop-in visits, and pet sitting throughout the week, and I also offer boarding depending on availability. I always try to be flexible and work with your pet’s routine and needs. I focus on creating a safe, calm, and comfortable environment for every pet. I pay close attention to their behavior, body language, and routine so they feel secure and relaxed. I make sure pets are always supervised, in a safe space, and handled gently. I follow all instructions closely and keep routines consistent to reduce stress. I also make sure pets get plenty of attention, playtime, and affection so they stay happy and active.

About: Loving Pet Sitting with a Family Touch! I’m a preschool teacher and lifelong animal lover spending my time out of the classroom doing what I love—caring for pets! With a warm, playful, and attentive approach, I treat your furry friends like family. Whether it’s cuddle time or playtime, your pet will feel safe, happy, and right at home. Pet care is my second part-time passion alongside teaching. In the summer, I’m fully available—days, evenings, and weekends. During the school year, I shift gears a bit, offering pet care in the afternoons, evenings, and on weekends around my teaching schedule. As a pet parent myself, I know how important it is to feel confident in your pet’s care. My home is a safe, calm, and loving space, but I only offer in-home boarding to trusted clients and pets, as I have a precious new cat of my own to consider. When caring for your pet in your home, I’m respectful of your space and committed to creating a warm, engaging environment for your pet—whether through walks, gentle play, or cozy companionship. Your pet’s safety and comfort always come first.
“I recently had the pleasure of working with Wendy as a dog sitter, and I can't express enough how impressed I am with her level of preparedness and experience. From the moment we met, it was clear that she has a deep understanding of canine behavior and care. A delightful bonus was when Wendy brought her sweet dog, Honey Pie, along. My dogs got along wonderfully, and Honey Pie's friendly demeanor made the transition smooth for my dogs. It was heartwarming to see them all play together. Wendy’s extensive experience with dogs was evident in everything she did. She was well-prepared with all the necessary supplies and created a safe and engaging environment for my pets. It gave me peace of mind knowing that my dogs were in such capable hands.”

“It was our first time having Jacob watch our two dogs and he made it as easy as could be with timely communication and updates throughout the weekend, giving me peace of mind that our girls were being taken care of while we were out of town. He took them on walks and sent us photos and the girls looked very happy. We will definitely be booking Jacob again.”

“Melissa was great! She was quick to respond, was super positive and friendly, gave us updates throughout the day with photos, and did everything we asked! Whiskey loved her and we’ll definitely book her again.”

“Pamela was wonderful with our pup "Rio!" He's normally a bit shy at first meetings but he took to her almost immediately. She was great at giving us daily photos, updates and even a lovely written "Rio Report" at the end of her stay. We had to reschedule our flight and Pamela was very accommodating when we had to return for one of the nights she was scheduled to stay over. Both times we arrived home to a very happy hound and tidy hearth.”

About: I'm a huge fan of active dogs, and I love going on walks and playing outside with them. I also have experience with senior pets and in giving medications. I'm a self-employed clinical massage therapist, and am able to adjust my schedule to fulfill whatever needs you or your pets may have, including doing various walks or appointments as needed. “We LOVE how much Shalindra loves our dogs, and they love her! She keeps us thoroughly updated and sends plenty of pictures and videos so we know they’re doing well. She is someone who you know just adores spending time with dogs, which helps us know she’s enjoying her time with our pups, even if one of our dogs is insane haha. Highly recommend Shalindra if you want someone to truly enjoy hanging out with your pups and update you along the way.”

About: I have been a dog person since birth! I love all and any dogs. I had my own for 18 years and since his passing have been actively fostering dogs with different rescue organizations. I’d consider myself well experienced with four legged friends. I have a fenced in yard and love to lay or play. I am a nanny as well so I am caring and patient. People say I am reliable and punctual. I will snuggle, take naps, run around the yard, and just pet the daylight out of your pup. I have experience with gentle leaders, prong collars, putting on harnesses, crate training, reactive dogs, and muzzles. I feel confident I can take care of your family member when you are away at work or vacation or just need a little break :) I am currently taking time off work so my schedule is open! Available during the day for walks or day care or overnights or drop ins :) I have a fenced in yard. I have crates at my house already in all different sizes and dog beds and dog toys since I foster dogs I follow the rules of the pet owner, but I allow dogs on my furniture and in my bed so if the pet owner allows, the pet is more than welcome to snuggle :-)

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Fort Ward
We have an energetic and timid puppy who has the best of times with Ryan, whether relaxing in the house or out on a long walk or playing with Ryan's dog. Ryan keeps us regularly updated with wonderful photos of our cat and puppy and we feel very comfortable leaving them in Ryan's calm and confident care.

Mel and Kelly are the best! They are responsible and conscientious, and they clearly spent lots of time doting on our very spoiled kitty. Zoya seemed to really enjoy having their company, and was entirely comfortable with them from the start. We feel very fortunate to have found Kelly and Mel, and I highly recommend them!

Kimberly was absolute fantastic watching our boys while we were on a work trip. Her communication was excellent with tons of pictures and videos putting our nerves immediately at ease knowing they were in great hands. 10 out of 10 experience and will definitely be reaching out again!!

FAQs for House Sitting - Fort Ward
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Fort Ward on Rover is $61.05 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 8,102 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Fort Ward. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Fort Ward walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Fort Ward maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Fort Ward choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Fort Ward. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
